It's painful watching you and and a soldering iron. Get some good flux, both paste and liquid and don't be afraid to apply them. Then some quality chemical to wash the excess flux off your board when your done with the iron.
Fun video, came acrossed because I buy cheap sometimes broken projectors off eBay too and was curious about picking up another AAXA cheap. Got a big collection now but my faves are the MicroVision pocket lasers which I have do circuluar projections and other weird and fun stuff. Also fun projectors because they have cool undocumented features (undocumented because upico who makes the laser projection tech went offline and took all their docs & sdks with them, but recovered much & reuploaded to Internet Archive). Anyway, cheers from a new subscriber.
I have a question for you since you've explored the inside of this projector. I purchased the same model years ago and only use it to project apparitions in our haunted basement during Halloween. The unit sat in its original box for a few years before I tried to put it into use this past Halloween, only to find out that when I press the power button, I can hear the small fan inside of it fire up, but the unit will not turn on. As soon as I release pressure from the power switch, the unit shuts back down. Any ideas? I reached out to AAXA, but they didn't offer any real help, just a slight discount on a newer unit. Thanks in advance for any insight you might have.
Had a similar issue with mine. The battery burst on one side from who knows what. I just wired a larger phone battery to it and glued it to the bottom. I am almost certain this it the issue you are likely to have. I don't know where to find a replacement battery for that exact projector but as long as you get the dimensions of the size you might be able to find it on eBay.
@@Zenodilodon Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly. awfully nice of you to answer the question. I'm finding that even when it's being powered by the USB cable, the power up process still won't 'stick'. Do you think that might still be related to the battery?
@@rcallanmac These are pretty power hungry devices so the USB might not have enough juice to try to charge a damaged battery and power the actual unit. You would probably need upwards of 2A to do both and get any sign of actual life. If you can't figure out a fix let me know.
@@Zenodilodon Thanks again. I pulled the battery and will see if I can find a replacement or if need be, do as you suggested and glue it to the bottom.
is there a way you could DM me or show where the thermistor is on the board? I have an aaxa p450 that turns off after 15 seconds and restarts and I suspect it is the thermal replay sensor is tripping....
I do not own that model of projector but I would suggest looking on the section with the LEDs it's the area that gets hot and the thermal switch if there is one would most likely be in that area. You might be able to repair the unit by replacing the thermal compound with better stuff. There could also be other issues such as a failing MCU or intermittent connection. Does it have the problem when on external power?
I am on the hunt for a usable DMD/LCoS that can be mounted and used for testing. I don't have a direct use for a working pocket projector so the investment on fixing it was nothing. It's going to sit in a box until it's pulled apart again most likely. I would of pulled it apart more in the video but the glue prevented me from doing so in a working matter so this wasn't a win at fixing a projector, it was a loss at dissection.
Thanks! I wish I could of gotten the flippin LCoS out though. I do want to hunt down another SVP mini projector. Now that I have seen color LCoS ICs I really want to see it running, it would be so awesome to see a colored images come from a silver looking IC. Why glue why? lol
@@martijn4740 probably better to get a larger projector for cheap then. These things are really glorified toys and pretty useless as video projectors go, I bet you cold get it cheaper then pocket one as well. Even the cheapest of projectors are overall brighter then pocket ones.
Use flux on the $20 projector I cared little about got it. But what's wrong with a Pace Heatwise soldering station? Have you ever used a Pace? The soldering iron is epic.

@@Tesla210 Ah yes, it was crusty and blunt. TBH on this particular day I just did not really care to clean the iron/wet the sponge/get out the flux etc. Most of the little projectors I get are not bought to use but for future prototyping platforms. I couldn't give a flux less about properly fixing this toy. About as much as I give on opinions, stay tuned for more technical masochism.
Awesome the see the tech they put into this tiny projection head.
What are we watching here. Its like king kong trying to wipe the ass of an ant. Wow. .

hello is this model the same as AAXA Technologies KP-101-01? they look almost same ..
I am honestly not sure. I would check out the specs on each model by search on this site. www.projectorcentral.com/
why do not you add flux for cleaning the usb port before soldering? otherwise a good job! :)
