I've been playing guitar since I was in my teens so I pretty much know where any effects should go according to "the rules," where I want to put them and when I want to break the rules. I've accumulated a ton of pedals over the years and I only use the Stomp effects for things I don't have or anything extra awesome. I have a 2 button foot switch for the Stomp but everything else is instantly accessible, no menu scrolling. I use 2 different pedal boards, the first for my pre-Stomp pedals and the second for the Stomp and stereo pedals in the effects loop. The first board's chain is germanium fuzz>compression>several overdrives, distortions and Muff style fuzzes>mono effects: modulations e.g. chorus, uni-vibe>Keely Mag Echo clone>Caline Snakebite>clean boost/overdrive. The second board has the Stomp and in the effects loop there's all stereo effects: 2 mult-modulations>2 multi-delays>a dual channel parallel reverb>2 multi-reverbs. On the first board, I use a dual channel loop switcher to keep my overdrives and high gain distortions on separate signal chains which cuts the overall length of cable the signal passes through. It took many rearrangements and reiterations to get it perfect but I finally feel like it's about perfect.
Stomp is whatever you want it to be. It can be a multifx on its own or two sides of fx to be used in front, middle or behind behind any combination of fx you can think of. A true Swiss Army knife of the fx world.
Love the way that Aspen sounds! Is that based on a JHS kilt? It sounds like a kilt with a bass knob and more headroom. Not to mention the layout is similar.
Would you run the tonex ones in parallel? As Hx stomp only has 1 send. Or would you use a Trs to tonex input? Or maybe even make a video for the configuration?
They will be in parallel and the HX Stomp has a left and right send...so no TRS needed. Unless your talking about the FX Loop (which I'm not using), then you'd need the TRS split cable
Hey Jimmy, great video. I have a Big sky and Timline and i'm sad that they are jusst sitting around unused. Do you have a board that uses these with the Stomp? Do you have a preference on connecting them? i.e. effects loop. Thanks!
I don't own those, but I would probably just run them after the HX Stomp unless you specifically wanted to keep them in the FX Loop in order to switch the signal chain order around
I actually have this exact setup! I run them in the effects loop of my Stomp so I can put them wherever I want in the stomp’s signal chain. I usually like my wet effects after my amps, but with this setup I can change it on the fly.
Why do you run the solo compressor pedal into the HX stomp? I'm new to pedals. Wouldn't you just use the HX stomp built in compressor? Is it truly a sound difference or does it help with the processing of the other effects in the HX stomp? Thanks! new subscriber
Its def not needed...but I always recommend that "if" you are going to add pedals to the front...begin with a comp in the front as that's a good place for it to live (in front of your drives) that's the only reason. And then that saves DSP for other effects inside the HX Stomp
planning ampless setup. guitar>tuner/volume pedal>cali76>jan ray>hx stomp.. is it a good setup? can I use it for direct to mixer setup. do I need DI or not needed?
This may be a bit of a dumb question, but if you use an external compressor and drive pedal straight into the input of the Stomp, will the input gate negatively impact the tone? I want to add a compressor and a few drives to free up some DSP, but still want to be able to use the input gate if needed.
If you’re getting one TONEX unit, it’s a mono amp. If you normally run mono, that’s no big deal and I would just run it at the end of my chain after everything. But if you need to keep a stereo signal, you might want to put it in the effect loop of the stomp
@@HeyWorshipLeader thanks Jimmy, that is what I figured. I almost got rid of the rv500 and timefactor until I saw your video about 100% wet effects in the loop, but didn't want to do that until I got my tonex one. Thanks for your ministry. Soli Deo Gloria
If running them parallel through fx loop, would there be a phase issue when using 2 different amps? And if so, how would you go about fixing that? I’ve heard there’s a polarity inversion option on the hx stomp but I haven’t confirm that
Thanks for the content, it helped me decide to get a HX stomp! But I’m having problems! I want to use it as my wet FX only behind comp and saturation. I have been noticing quite a lot of high-frequency hiss noise even with all blocks disabled that disappear when I analog bypass the HX stomp. Is this normal? Haven’t heard anyone else having this problem.
@@HeyWorshipLeader Thanks so much for your response! I have sent you an email showing the problem. Maybe my one has a fault... Any help much appreciated.

haha...I use an external power supply...cioks Dc7 works great with a current doubler (ruclips.net/video/_COXcWNzh7o/видео.html&lc=UgwRvL2xxGgCq010QZp4AaABAg)
@@HeyWorshipLeader I think it would be good to discuss the limitations of the pod go. Specifically you’re pretty much tied into using the fx loop so you can keep the compressor at the front of the chain unless you turn the comp off or run a jailbreak preset
I need help!! I want to use my HX Stomp XL with my Boss OD-200, neunaber Immerse ambient and Boss noise suppressor. Could someone please tell me how to wire this up on my pedal board and my Fender Champion 100 amp?

The distortion setting on the Aspen sounds incredible! I haven’t been able to try mine out yet, but wow
Agreed
Nowadays I'm actually using my stomp pretty much only for modulation and some auto swell when I don't want to use a volume pedal on my board.
The modulation in there is so good

Digging the Aspen Demo... I'm in the 120's on the wait list.
Nice! I can’t wait to dig into it a little more. Definitely going on the new board

thats a great set up...you don't technically need a DI...you could get 1/4 inch to XLR adapters...but for what it's worth,,,I also just use a DI
We need a Tone X One vs ACS1 comparison.
Ok! I hadn’t thought about that!

How would you run two TONEX in the effects loop? Wouldn’t they be in series if you just hook them up with a TRS Y cable?
No, they would be left and right (tip and ring) coming back into the Stomp. You could then blend them or keep them separate.
If running them parallel through fx loop, would there be a phase issue when using 2 different amps? And if so, how would you go about fixing that? I’ve heard there’s a polarity inversion option on the hx stomp but I haven’t confirm that

If i am using a Tonex or an UAFX Amp pedal in the fx loop.
Do i need the signal in instrument or in Line lvl ?
With the TONEX "Instrument" not sure wit the UA stuff
I want this video but with the pod go
Sounds good...but all the same stuff applies...what would you want to know specifically?

Stereo
Some are some aren’t. The user manual explains which ones are which.
Most are stereo but not all of them...I know the Room reverb is stereo because I use that one at the end of my chain all the time
Thank you !
