One could say that might be a touch jammy. Satsuma jammy, though I would have thought that would be more like marmalade with satsumas being citrus fruit.
The issue with Alex's Satsuma was the tyres. He had alloys with fairly wide, low profile tyres. Wide low profile tyres won't cut through the snow to the surface below, they just stay on top which, being frozen water doesn't have any real grip to offer the tyre so no control. The reason why it kept turning round is due to the weight, or lack of at the back of the pickup. The front wheels have the weight of the engine and gearbox pushing down on them so they have greater rolling resistance. The back just has the weight of the rear axle itself, the chassis and the pickup body pushing the tyres down into the surface so they have much less rolling resistance so they can move faster than the front and the tail wags the dog and overtakes. On snow and ice rallies, i.e. Rally Sweden, the cars run snow and ice tyres which are very narrow so they cut through the snow to the surface underneath, which there is ice due to the low temperatures in the Scandinavian winter, so they run tyres with small metal spikes called studs in them, just like in running shoes, which penetrate the ice and allow bite into the ice to give the car traction. In this event choosing a variant of the Satsuma with more even weight distribution front-to-rear, such as a standard saloon or estate version, and running it on the standard narrow wheels and "bicycle" tyres would have allowed the car to be much more controllable. Greater balance could be achieved by selecting the lightest engine available, but getting a perfect 50/50 weight distribution wouldn't be your friend in this as you want the front to be a bit heavier so that it goes down front forward. Snow and ice tyres with studs would be the best option for this but probably wouldn't be in the spirit of the event and probably wouldn't be modelled in for standard road-going Satsumas as they're only really seen on rally cars and vehicles used in the winter in places where the weather gets very, very cold and very, very snowy and icy and which have a lot of unsealed roads as, if you use studded tyres on paved roads, even ones deeply covered in snow, you'll destroy your studs and lose their advantage once you reach their intended environment AND you'll destroy the road surface, incurring massive fines and repair bills for the road as using studded tyres on paved roads is illegal in most countries where the tyres would be useful. Japan is not one of those countries as, although it does get very cold in some parts during the winter, they haven't ever really had the need for vehicles with studded tyres as they have had good access to 4wd vehicles there since the end of the Second World War, firstly from disposed of Allied Jeeps and all-wheel drive trucks and then with the introduction of home-grown 4wds such as the Nissan Patrol and Mitsubishi 4x4 which were both very close to being Willys Jeeps produced locally. Then the first Toyota Landcruiser came along in the late '50s or early '60s and the rest is history.
It looks, to me, like your Satsuma has a lot of forward brake bias and maaaybe some wonky weight distribution. The combination of lots of forward brake bias and a heavy rear would cause the car to naturally turn backwards, especially under braking. Idk for sure tho if thats whats going on.
Alex, it sounds like the "crap" you deal with is mates just being GOOD MATES. you have a solid group of friends. BTW love the work and the film crew do. please keep it up and keep them around.
3:00 all I can think of is that cartoon from the late 2000s with the small clouds that say "my anus is bleeding!" and the banana that says "I'm a BAnana!"
When it's snowy, people usually throw some tires or bricks in their truck bed (well, maybe not modern trucks) to help weigh down the back end, and it still only does so much. Brother had an old Ford Ranger for a while, trying to drive up a gravel driveway on a hill was not a good affair in that!
Alex, in regards to the paid take out by Russky, i wish to remind you of the amount of times you have asked for someone who has done well to be taken out in previous Szrvive the Descent sessions!
Have to admit that I was thinking the exact same thing. If you select the most OP vehicle instead of doing it for fun, then you've gotta take your lumps :)
@@richardwindsor974 i wouldnt say the Loaf was OP, especially with ABS and Top-heavy, but i agree that the Filming Crew and Alex on a bad run will attempt to "Ball of Metal" the most successful vehicle in the field. Especially during streams where you have more than 6 included runs.
I would like to see this, but you started at the bottom.Work your way up and then either use the same car or a different car and work your way back down.To decide the winner. But not on the winter map.

I have a theory: Which is the heaviest part of a pickup? The front where the motor is. And the lightest part? The back where the empty bed is, of course. So? No wonder the lightest part with the least amount of grip is the most affected by gravity! 🙄 Right?
It’s cause the truck is in gear and there isn’t enough grip to make the wheels spin faster or slower than what the engine is already at. I crashed my first car the exact same way
I find noughts and crosses to be a much more entertaining name for the American English TIC TAC TOE. But there arent many of those😂😂😂😂 Like calling fries "chips" bothers me😅
I'm worried about 500-th FailRace episode. Like another week and we still don't get it. I wonder if it's because of Alex had some troubles with it and he had to start montaging that episode since the beginning?...😕
You cannot just say Amy and Gliscor are sharing the same hole and continue like nothing was said…

Amy's faceplant off the loop at 1:37 had me crying. Lol
Alex said "I'm a banana with a working drive shaft." Oh, Alex, Alex, Alex, sometimes.... 🤣
*Lore updates softly*
Alex's Satsuma just didn't want to see the pain that was coming.
Nope, the Satsuma just rolled to the end with its tiny bit of momentum 😅
The flying pigeon is certainly not what I would've expected. Well done for going above and beyond... Lombo

the opposite actually, it probably has a ton of bias towards the rear which would explain the loss of control.
It's mostly the weight. Being light on the rear means less friction, which means the rear slides faster.
@@velvetrosang4684 oh, yeah. That makes sense too. Yeah it's probably that with it being a pickup and all.

There’s a reason people put weight in truck beds during slippery conditions
"Amy!!! I'm stuck!!!" 😁
10:35 honestly amazed how long that lived
The backward might be because its a truck and the back end is significantly lighter and has less traction
I don't know why it won't steer 😂 maybe it has something to do with you being 90° and 2 wheels on the ground 😂

I considered sending it down, but it's survivability was as low as it's chance of making it to production
Couldn't stop laughing for round 2.
My first vehicle was a 1965 pickup truck just like the one you were driving.
Maybe it wants to go backwards because of more brake pressure on the front wheels?
Or the rear brakes locking and causing the skid. Just guessing
It’s cause the truck is in gear and there isn’t enough grip to make the wheels spin faster or slower than what the engine is already at. I crashed my first car the exact same way
