Nigeria has always had refineries as far back as 1959. The country currently has 4 broken refineries with a capacity of 450,000 B/D, but all the refineries are not working because of corruption in the government. Nigerian elites are killingly selling imported dirty fuel to Nigerians and exporting clean Bonny light to the West. This is the ROI of democracy that has yet to deliver any good governance.

You need to wake up and think that if we destroy our home land, how are we going to enjoy the proceeds of the oil? Have you seen the environmental damage that Shell has inflicted on the Ogoni people that Ken Saro Wiwa died for? Just like anywhere else in the world where oil is refined, Nigeria needs to find the balance between environmental net zero to having a refinery that works and profits its nation.

Terrible reporting. Nigeria has other refineries which were government owned but were mismanaged.
This is not the first . Its is also a PPP arrangement with government owning 20% .
Terrible journalism with misleading information. Shame on Aljazeera
