Under rated is a term often thrown around. This film is the true example of under rated. It's known well for its comedy but these scenes take me to another universe. They're crafted beautifully.
This is just my opinion, but I think the couple is a perfect counter for The Harpist. The Harpist technique mostly focus on long range attack (blade and fist) although they have also close range figther (the bigger dude). Their long range attack seems like some sort of sound wave, it's so fast and so dense that it forms blade and a fist that can cut through soft surfaces like human flesh or even concrete. Now, the couple could counter their attack, the husband silent movement easily reach them without them knowing it and make them fight on close range, since one of the Harpist are blind and really rely on hearing while figthing, and the other only focus on offensed and brute stength, the husband fluid almost like water technique really make them in trouble by letting them hit each other, with the wife ability to produce an even more stronger sound wave with wide range that easily destroy everything in front of it and sweep the Harpist attack and blast them few feet away, they lose to a better duo they never face. Sorry for my broken English
Husbands style is Qi Gong, techniques that use your opponents strength against them. Instead of bracing against attacks, he lets their punches move his body, then uses the rotational force to hit them harder.
After so many years, still one of my favourite fight scene in a martial arts movie. The choreography and music score is so good. Fun fact: You watch Shang-Chi? The landlord is Master Guang Bo. The actor's name is Yuen Wah.
The musicality is so perfectly integrated with the action of this scene-- this whole thing is a creative masterpiece. My favorite part is the exchange between the lawyer and the landlady, when he tells her to eat shit and die: "Die? In all this racket?" 😂
Best visualization of the Qi concept in movie! Even better than what Star Wars did with the "Force". I like how it demonstrates physical power and skills are no match to Qi: two skilled fighters cannot defeat the harpists; but the harpists are still not the most powerful, they need the instrument as a medium to focus and deliver the energy, while the land lady is powerful enough to release her Qi energy by just screaming. That's better than Jedi's in Star Wars where the differences between novice and powerful force manipulators are just how big of a thing one can move with force.
The most impressive power of the landlady is not her sonic damage, it is her accuracy of controlling the damage. At 6:33 you can see how her sonic wave turned the harp into millions of pieces, yet the underpants of the harpists were amazingly in good shape.
What a lot of people did not understand about this film, why it was such an amazing film for even the Chinese Market, was the choice of martial arts used. In Chinese novellas, there had been many kung-fu skills and many TV shows, films and stories had been written about them. But the choice to use Lion's roar was such a perfect choice, it really set everyone up in awe of how well crafted the story was.
The landlady and her husband reveals are one of my top cinematic reveals ever, her character is F'ing awesome. A couple years ago I paused an old James Bond movie where he has two girls protecting/fighting for him. One was that actress, she had retired and had acted in 30yrs, she was taking her granddaughter to an audition when a casting director spotted her for this role... 🤯
This movie is awesome and the fight choreography is amazing I still get goosebumps at the big “twist” in this fight. I know it’s been foreshadowed since the film began that landlady is a actually a kung fu master, but it’s so easily dismissed due to the movie being comedy
the Donut was really impressive to be honest, even though he lost he put up a good fight, it's sad that the other guy die to the Harpists before he could do anything

But the choice to use Lion's roar was such a perfect choice, it really set everyone up in awe of how well crafted the story was.
the landlord played by Yuen Wah is the archer master Guang Bo in Shang-Chi movie.
Wasn't he also Bruce Lee's double in Enter the Dragon? He did the somersault at the end of the opening scene, and the flip kick against Ohara...
Yeah, and shang chi has a poster of kung fu hustle in his room lol
Axe gang boss is Bruce Lee in IP Man 4. Also the goalkeeper in Shaolin Soccer
I still think the Harpist has the coolest power.
Creating sounds as weapons.
So Anime-like
I think the harp itself also is a cursed item.we can see its true power was came from the dead warriors.
@@Teratouch it's not cursed, it's a reference to old wuxia TV series, just upgraded in the visual FX to give visual cue on the attacks.
One of the greatest fantasy scripts I 've ever encountered..it is no less a classic
This scene need a Oscar! Its pure art!
what i love in this movie is the power level, like one boss beats someone then the next boss beats them and so on
This movie is awesome and the fight choreography is amazing
I still get goosebumps at the big “twist” in this fight. I know it’s been foreshadowed since the film began that landlady is a actually a kung fu master, but it’s so easily dismissed due to the movie being comedy
Weapons coming from the Harp was such a brilliant idea. The music is calm while there's nothing but chaos lol
the Donut was really impressive to be honest, even though he lost he put up a good fight, it's sad that the other guy die to the Harpists before he could do anything
Everything destroyed by the Lion's Roar except the pants!😆
Its 2022. Ive seen this movie a good dozen times and i watch this scene like i watch my favorite anime moments. This came out in 2004 and it still holds up. Why is it so difficult to make dope moments like this in live action without it looking cheesy af?
Because masterpiece are hard to make.
It was cheesy. There are enough empathetic moments for it to feel not cheesy
This movie was ahead of its time. Masterpiece!
5:26 the looks in her eyes was " thats enough ".
even though this is a movie from 2004. but it always amazed me to watch an HD action movie ( we don't have that kind of new fight movie anymore:( ) .
The landlady woman, is in The Man with the Golden Gun. She's one of the "nieces" that "saves" bond and kicks some ass.
I find it funny that the axe gang boss is annoyed with the fact that his minion keeps blocking his view when he can just sit in front of him instead
It's sad that they don't have sequel to this great movie, like if they were to make another part, just imagine new different characters with different unique kung-fu techniques, but still love this film so much.
I'd rather there not be a sequel that would likely to tarnish this film.
@@s2korpionic well it is hard to have a sequel when the main already became so powerful anyway, better to have the kind of sequel as in it focus on different chars while keeping the same style.
I think there is one in development, it was meant to release last year but because of covid its been hard.
@koala2007 yes, could be involving the landlords' son death which makes the couple vow to never fight again
i hope Chinese action movies make like this agian this is was so epic and enjoy to watch with comedy and action the best kung fu movie i watch GOAT
Crazy to realize that Harpist #2 is also the same actor in Ip Man 2. Fung Hak On
The Axe Gang boss is Bruce Lee in IP Man 4
This movie is pure gold, it should be considered one of the best moies ever made
I love the depiction of Tai Kwan Do by the landlord. He moves slightly and they end up missing or hitting each other.
2:22 the best scene in all of cinematic kung fu history
