He should have been called for illegally spinning the ball before contact. Most of this garbage would disappear if drop bounce serves were made mandatory.
2023 USA pickleball service rules ... Service Foot Faults apply at contact with the ball ... no fault here (unless it was 4A.4.a) 4.A.4.a. At least one foot must be on the playing surface behind the baseline. 4.L. Service Foot Faults. During the serve, when the ball is struck, the server’s feet shall: 4.L.1. Not touch the area outside the imaginary extension of the sideline. 4.L.2. Not touch the area on the wrong side of the imaginary extension of the centerline. 4.L.3. Not touch the court, including the baseline.
Why are your suggesting a replay. A rule is applied here. If he’s not allowed crossing on the other side at the contact point, then he loses the service. No other possibility. It might not be cool to call it from the referee side but he really crossed on the other side. It’s just like driving over the Speed limit on a highway…it’s illegal but tolerated up on a certain level.
You can be on the invisible line, and that's okay, you just can't be touching the court beyond that invisible line when you make contact with the ball. I don't think he ever touched the court beyond the imaginary line before hitting the ball, and he definitely didn't when he made contact, because his foot was in the air.
When stuff like this happens, sadly, the first thing that comes to mind.: Does Vegas have odds on the event? If no, then it's a ref call, weird, whatever. if yes, well....
So, he was not outside of the imaginary line extension, but MAYBE he didn't have one foot on the playing surface? It looks like he may make a small hop during his point of contact. Honestly, it seems McGuffin makes his serve so close to illegal in multiple ways, the paddle head is barely below his wrist, he barely makes an upward motion, the point of contact with the ball is barely below the waist, and he's barely inside the line, LOL! I had to look up the rules for MLP, but they just point back to USA pickleball, so here are the rules: 4.A.4. The moment the ball is served: 4.A.4.a. At least one foot must be on the playing surface behind the baseline. 4.A.4.b. Neither of the server’s feet may touch the court on or inside the baseline. 4.A.4.c. Neither of the server’s feet may touch the playing surface outside the imaginary extension of the sideline or centerline.
I can't believe how many calls the refs made against the players this weekend. I'd be so curious to know more about why this happened or why the refs felt like they had to be so strict with the rules this weekend. Looking at the rulebook this looks fine to me even with his foot sliding to the invisible line, that shouldn't matter. I just wish the refs this weekend would have replayed more of the points when they called it incorrectly. It just feels like it was the end of the month and the cops were trying to meet their quota..
It looked to me his foot crossed over prior to contact. Tough to see from this video angle. The "foot stomp" call on James Iggy was the weird one to me.
@@createmitch James came up quick to the NVZ line during a doubles match in the quarters. There was a claim the "stomp" sound he made when he stopped was a "distraction" or "hinder" It was not upheld. Just seemed so pety.
Me too. And that one came just after or before another weird call, if I remember correctly, something about someone yelling from the sidelines just before a ball went out. (?) The refs seemed just a bit hyperactive yesterday.
If you look at his left foot just before contact it appears the foot was a little on the line if the line was extended. No way the ref could have seen that though from his position. My tournament partner was serving and the receiver called a foot fault on my partner. She was 40 feet away and there were no refs. We were amazed on the call but won the game anyway.
“He serves, hits the ball, and then his foot goes on the opposite side…” Sounds like you’re already biased because that’s not what the video clearly shows. Tyson’s foot blatantly was inching towards the midline before contact and his toes made contact with it before hitting the ball. The ref apparently noticed this prior to this point. The ref did her job. Don’t make something out of nothing. If anything, you owe her an apology.
I’m not sure there was clear evidence of a foot fault here? Although his foot is extremely close to the line, it’s a tough call to make either way. I do believe his foot is allowed to cross the line after contact, which is what happened.
@@createmitch I watched it in the slowest motion and it was before contact. Also those that say you can’t see it from that position - the main ref giving Tyson example gave camera clear vision as it’s same position the ref would be in.

At 0:37 it looks that he's already in violation before contact with the ball.
After looking at the rules, it appears I'm guilty of a foot fault. Namely my foot in my mouth. 0:37 shows clearly not over the line.
His foot was up off the court when he hit the ball so bad call but we are watching it in slow motion.
3 weeks ago I made this comment on another video:
“Tyson often steps across the mid line when serving but nobody ever calls him on it”
He often crowds the line, and also frequently hits the serve way above what's legal. It's just normal McGuffin stuff.

21 to 13 score, it wasn't even close, so I side with the ref on this one, just to establish fair play.
Good point Dale.

He has a long history of foot faults from that side of the court.
