  • Welcome to Gingers Vegas Babies. I love my mojave desert tortoises and love to share them with you all. In this video I am sharing with you all where we are this Spring 2021. My desert tortoises all have different personalities, are different ages and have different needs. Just like preschool my tortoises have different age areas they live in. Merida is the last hatchling still living inside in the infant area, the toddlers are living together in the 1/2 yr old toddler outdoor habitat and Charlie is actually the old dude living in the backyard.
    I am excited to be in the process of building another area for the 3/4 year olds.
    We have mostly zen moments in our Vegas home.
    The desert tortoise is designated as an emotional support animal.
    Thank you for reading to the end! Enjoy our video.

      Thank you J. Hey to you and Scooter! I bet she is adorable.
      Yes, this was my first year to find mallow so I bought 6! If you put them on a dripper or just water them daily they will do well. Mine also love the carpet roses and grape leaves. I planted thompson seedless grapes and they do well if planted in the right place. I do agree, its hard to grow stuff in this heat. Start in late feb and it should work. Until then it sounds like you and Scooter have a good system. Yes, up early for a bit and then back to sleep and out for a bit in the late afternoon if its not too hot!
      Thank you for watching and thanks for the comment!

      Thanks Ken. I have so much fun with them and find them very zen. I hope that this helps others that might have tortoises or just show people what tortoises are about. I honestly feel they are much easier to care for once they reach maturity. However I absolutely love my little ones and love how they really respond to me.
      Thanks for hanging out with us!

    I have been looking on internet and all over Las Vegas for the ma low plant Charlie is eating. I have two desert tortoises here in Vegas. I am having radiation treatments for Cancer and wanted to plant something for them to eat when I'm too sick to get up and feed them

      Oh I understand. Im sorry you are going through that. It would be very helpful if you could have plants they could feed on. The mallow is hard to find. Did you check star and moon? The thompson seedless grapevine would also be great. It grows super fast and all of mine love the leaves. Also the carpet roses, they all love to eat the roses and the rose leaves. I was told that I was lucky to find the mallow last month.
      I would look for the seedless grapes and the carpet roses. That will be good for now. Keep me posted Carol.

      if i happen to find one I will get it for you and let you know. but i still think you should plant a couple of thompson seedless grape and a couple of carpet rose. That would make them happy. Or you may already have them. If so they should be fine to fend for themselves if need be.

    9:00 is he grinding his beak? Is he in love with that pot? whats goin on?

    • @GingerVegas
      @GingerVegas  2 года назад

      Yes, I found that interesting too because he normally isnt interested in that pot. He is a 2 year old tortoise and I have noticed that the 1 and 2 year olds put everything in their mouth to figure it out. This is something that human toddlers do as well. So no, they dont normally sharpen their beaks on things. So my take on it is that he is just trying to figure out what it is. He hasnt been on it like that since that day.
      Mr. Green, thank you for watching and thank you for that question? :)
