It's crazy how people can have a child and seemingly never realize that the child is a damn human being. They treat them like pets or trophies. This lady abandoned her child and by the grace of God, a member of that child's family stepped up to take care of her. The SIL should be grateful.

I have a VERY unpopular opinion here. You should let Abby and SIL meet up. Then let Abby decide if she wants to try to live with SIL for a month. This isn’t your decision, it shouldn’t be. Let Abby decide when she gets to be 14

In most cases, the adoptive parents are not allowed/supposed to seek out their child. At least not until the child is 18. This little girl is only 5, and she is not old enough to understand the full consequences of having contact with her birth mother, especially since it seemed like OP hasn't told her about where she came from, or that she is even adopted. But there is usually something in the adoption paperwork that prevents the bio parents from contacting the child. And you are completely ignoring the fact that this bio mom didn't put her baby up for adoption. She abandoned her child, and her parental rights were terminated by the court, and the adoption was approved by the courts. People who abandon their children are automatically considered unfit parents.
