This is a great match . Timbo had the momentum but failed to keep it for the rest of the match . He started serving weak. Timbo has the better overall game but that guy has some wicked offense .
Ended on an ace! Wow, I'm speechless. This guy is a phenomenal player, that stiff arm is deadly, as well as the serves. Timbo was humble and didn't complain even with a slippery court. Nonetheless, the guy is nasty.
I watched it that day thanks to Michael "Mike" Dembin videographer/commentator & big shout out of universal thanks (of this I am sure) and just now twice and though the surface is slippery for both, El Matador no doubt enjoy the *familiarity* better than Timbo did. This being said, by no means diminishes the victory though on a different surface could possibly be El Matador's weakness OR solidify his game even more so on steadier feet. His sliding w/ability to shoot would be gone BUT might provide groundwork for stronger deadlier aim. It's tough to speculate w/these two particularly because of their great athleticism which obviously they possess .... There is no mystery as to why El Matador won. Singles is @ championship level, a game of serve (serving as though every serve is an ace = the greatest shot in ALL one wall sports being the shortest way to score a point AND a must have to be Top Dog), minimal volley (preferably 1 return only), the putaway which doesn't have to be a killer or a spike necessarily but executed to where the player is not. He executed exactly this to the letter hence the victory. His serve is the most effective hard hitting serve I think I ever seen. His position waiting for the, if returned & usually weaker than ever before because of the strength of his serve, he hits it practically every time to where your not. The points add up quickly and usually lead to victory .... One thing fer sure, on a different drier surface, his stamina, & defense would be tested greater than ever before because let's say Timbo's playing, T would hit more killers and I believe make sturdier returns as well .... A rematch here, more than worthy of of them both, would treat us w/fabulous sights most appreciated by true players, fans ~ (PS)BTW, El Matador would've to discontinue his habit of walking in on one's swing as he was guilty several times I noticed throughout his play of games in this tournament of days though far less present by the time of the Timbo finals. Being called down here would adjust him though I don't think it was ever done deliberately too. It's just illegal movement period!!

Mixed in with those left handed spikes, I imagine that that should generally (at the very least) keep him 'in the game' with Tim. I rarely see Tim playing against dudes with killer serves (like Peewee or Ray, when they played). 90% of the time he seems to be dealing with middle servers that power it to the left side. Is it possible that he's facing too many 'vanilla' servers out here?

Home court advantage! Good game (and no excuses) but you can tell the Mexican dude is, 1: very used to the slippery court (he didn't slip as much) and 2: his entire game and shots are totally adapted for that "slippery" court. Everything is angles.
Reality of the situation: -El Matador would not win that game on a regular court, maybe he'd get over 10 pts but that's it. -The slippery court played to Matadors advantage, but that's no excuse. Timbo is supposed to be #1. -Rookie in his prime would've won that game on that court no question. Rookie beat Matador lefty 2 in Orlando, FL 9 years ago. All in all: Timbo needs to win that game, regardless of the slippery court. He should've got momentum, went up and moved Matador during volleys so he would've been slipping on the court instead of Timbo.

Matador had an excellent punch serve with great placement where he scored most of his points, not to mention his angled corner shots. I believe in two out of threeTimbo would beat him . I remember seen Buddy beat Rubin Gonzalez 21-0 (then the two best players) and Rubin beating Buddy the next two games.Rubin Gonzalez went on to be the number I racketball player in 1985!
