Outstanding videography and editing under perfect weather conditions. You captured one of the crown jewels of operating railroad museums in the world. No need for wordy description or annoying background music. The trains speak for themselves. Well done Sir.
Most excursion specials use baggage cars as concession cars, and it's good to have those in between the coach and first class cars. As this is a tourist train, there's no concession car needed.
Wow, I really love the views from (and of) the dispatching tower. Really neat stuff, you don't see it often enough. Such an underrated part of operations on the railroad.
Thank you very much for sharing. I've been binge watching lots of train videos. Like how you use not just one type of train, using electric, steam and diesel. I'm going to send these to other of my railroad friends.
Glad to see Shay 5 operating after a successful restoration;) as of now, the place is still temporarily closed due to Covid19 and the protests, I hope reopening of the museum starts soon, I'd love to see more action!
The actual trackage is 4.6 miles, but if you round that up, you are exactly right my friend, it's about 5 miles indeed. My dad and I learned it from a fellow engineer when we were in Illinois years ago, even the museum's wikipedia page says so.
Update! "I RECEIVED THIS E-MAIL FROM IRM. To our visitors, members and staff: The Illinois Railway Museum is now finalizing plans to reopen. Our absolute priority is everyone’s safety in these difficult times We plan to open July 18-19 for members only and to both visitors and members beginning July 25-26. These dates are subject to our ability to meet acceptable safety standards. Before you visit, even if you have been a regular visitor in the past, please take the time to review the following procedures and policies. There are significant changes from the way that the Museum has operated in the past. We expect these will be temporary, and we intend to modify them in phases as both health conditions and regulations permit. Our Promise and Our Expectations The Museum is committed to taking all necessary steps to maintain the health and safety of visitors, members and staff. We’re doing our part to keep you safe, but we can’t do it alone. The success of our Reopen Plan requires the cooperation of everyone."
This museum alone must be worth to visit all the way from the Netherlands.
It certainly is
I would say definitely.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed
Time goes by so slow when I’m watching these videos, but I’m never bored. I just enjoy the extended time
Glad you're enjoying the videos.
Glad I found this! Not too many "operating museums" these days!!
IRM is one of the finest museums for operating equipment
Its americas largest
I love how they put the passenger trains in proper order with the RPO and Express cars first, unlike many excursion specials.

@@DynamoProductions-trains 9:25 i love the little figurine of The Fat Controller on top of the equipment XD

It was open for the summer
I just went to this place and it was amazing seeing how times have changed
Have you considered coming back to visit us again. We have received some new additions to both the collection and what has been put on our property.
Very great video, big thumbs up :)
Glad you enjoyed
I really wanted to go there this year, but by the sound of how things are going, they won’t be opening this year.
Apparently they are open and running at a limited capacity.
This video was from 2 years ago when the UP heritage units were at the museum. Not in the summer of 2020.
The heritage units were there in 2017.
These trains where from a lots lots of trains volume 2!
They have 5 miles of trackage right???

They have another about mile circle track that they use for trolley or streetcars.
Awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it
Doesn’t 1630s whistle need refurbishing?? Also how’s 428s project holding up
The 1630 uses a steamboat whistle, that's about how it sounds. The 428 project is still ongoing.
@@DynamoProductions-trains i remember the whistle had issues with pressure. It didn’t sound like its usual tone.
Is it opened now after COVID-19?
No. They just posted today on Facebook that they will post updates to their website, as the situation changes: www.irm.org/
I think tomorrow would be the first day they could possibly reopen.

Yes it opened in the summer of 2020.
wonder how many locomotives the ITM has that operate close to 20? or maybe 30?
Don’t forget the y3a, N&W 2050 (2-8-8-2) they have in one of their barns, sadly though, it doesn’t run.
@@DJG4040 Well yeah only Frisco 1630 and their shay are operational. But they are also rebuilding UP 426.
Most places having at least two operable steam engines would be pretty good.
cool
Ok, so, I may be mistaken but I think 1630 was a decapod built by Baldwin, right?
That is correct
