When I was a reporter years ago, a "new media" consultant was brought in for a daylong workshop and the one thing she said that I'll never forget is: "In this new age, it's more important to be first than to be accurate." The entire staff laughed her out of the room. What's sad is she's still on a university faculty, training future journalists in this kind of nonsense.

I remember during the first flaming dumpster fire of Trumps time in office seeing a comparison of CNN and Fox where they pointed out CNN has dozens of foreign offices while Fox you could count on one hand.
The right wing doesn't report, they make up claims then "retract" in the middle of the night when no one will see it.

@sgt_samples Graffiti was there *way* before Twitter (X) and from when I was a teenager I was inspired by the masterpieces of it. Like 'posts' on Social Media, most of it was trash, but some pieces were true works of art. I guess it just boils down to using and cultivating 'common sense' which posts or 'tags' to take serious or not. One thing everyone should do, no matter where you get off on, is to verify the source of what you read or hear. My 2P

People need to understand something. Elon wasn't "rejected from Epstein island". He was protected from it. By Epstein. Epstein did not want his star player getting tainted with that location on his itinerary.
This IS the Epstein class. We now live in THEIR world. The files made this abundantly clear. We are all basically forced to participate in THEIR Epstein economy.
They thrive in the manufactured chaos they endlessly plan for. Creating massive societal-level problems so they can sell us their "solutions".
The single most prevalent reason that China is continuing to succeed and out-perform every major nation, more and more every day... is because they do everything in their power to prevent the Epstein class from infiltrating any part of China. It's the entire reason their surveillance state is a total necessity.
Because if China let down their guard for 5 minutes... they'd be torn to shreds. Just like we have in America.
Elon is a big big part of the Epstein class. For him, it's the vessel he needs to become a trillionaire. We need to stop him. We need to stop them all.

No consequences and unlimited power cause boredom and thus reckless and destructive behavior. Allow that for 50 years or so and you end up with a class of individuals at the very top that are more depraved than the average person can ever imagine.

I just split the difference and call it ex-Twitter. I've heard people called it "xitter", using I guess the Chinese pronunciation of X (SH)?
The thing that floors me about the name change is that companies would KILL to have the brand recognition that Twitter had. You could see it with a tiny, 8x8-pixel pic vaguely resembling a bird. Heck, you could see it by merely a specific shade of blue when in context of other similar icons. Who drops that in favor of the character connected to so many random things that you can't tell *what* it means? Triple-X, X-Men, edgy 90's spelling IIRC, an unknown variable, a previous lover/partner... the only way it could possibly work is if the platform became so ubiquitous that nobody understood the letter by itself to mean anything *but* Twitter, and...
...y'know what, I can see Elon thinking that that would happen. Yeah.
Reminds me of the line someone said about store apps: They're pushing these out like teachers who assign homework as if *they're* the only class a student has to deal with. What hubris.

Racism, Islamaphobia, misinformation, anti-semitism, men saying women are inferior, women saying world would be a better place if all men were gone, some more racism, dehumanization, Islamaphobic posts especially were a trend because of Ramadan, (one of the tweets I came across was a video, the content was a muslim man celebrating his daughter's 5th birthday, they were both happy and joyful and cute together, the caption of that tweet was "a muslim man celebrating the wedding of his new wife, these are the people we import into our countries")
and all those posts had thousands of likes lmao.

That’s what all of them on the extreme right have done.
My dad was a huge Alex Jones listener, I spent much of my early adult years hearing about how the government was making encampments to lock up dissenting US citizens and how our own military was going to be turned onto the people they’re supposed to protect. And it’s happened! I’ve watched for decades as the far right yelled and screamed only to turn around and do the very thing they warned about because in their opinion “They had to do it before the other side did it.”
Uh huh. Sure. I’m more disgusted by the fact that their tactic has worked.

Elon MUSK knew the answer, but he dare not say it: that coherent global human consciousness that he aims for would do what he instructs it to do, and we know that none of that would be good.

@IanCaine4728 You know what, thank you for pointing this out- I hadn't made the link with how reocurring his AI use has to be on a daily basis but this makes a lot of sense, substances aside. The science is still in its infancy, AI is still on the rise and we lack the proper framework that a history of studies would provide, but I'm starting to see articles floating around re: the possible impact of AI on decision-making and skill acquisition; considering neuroplasticity is a thing and seeing how some lost skills or processes can sometimes be re-trained to a degree, I'm inclined to believe there is at least _some_ truth to the fears of cognitive atrophy...
Given that Elon Musk is both very high-profile and seems increasingly reliant on AI, he himself would likely make for a pretty telling case study if not for the added substance abuse factor.

Because the publication to audience relationship has inverted. It used to be that people came to specific sources (particular channels, papers, etc.). Now the publications come to where the audience already is and fight for attention. It's a cultural problem, because we've grown too comfortable with being passively shown things instead of actively seeking information out. Granted, publications themselves share some of the blame for caring more about platform control than the viewer experience. I'm still amazed at how many news sites and blogs still don't have a simple RSS feed in the year of our lord 2026.

I've really been justifying to myself why I still go on Twitter with "the memes are funnier", or "it has all the trendy news", or "eyewitness accounts upload fast there", or "people I follow are still on there" but honestly:
    1. I'll see these memes on TikTok or Insta Reels anyway
    2. Trendy news will reach me regardless of if I want to see it or not
    3. There will be millions of reuploads of eyewitness accounts with contrasting opinions and AI slop has already infested the 'Recent' tab anyway.
    4. It's time I stop caring about content creator's personal lives/dramas and it's not like anyone I know isn't on some other platform too.
This gave me the push to finally delete my profile on that hellhole. Thanks, John. 🤝

There will be no way to separate whatever this new person posts with your username from what you actually posted before... the Internet never forgets. So it's safer to just delete all your tweets and then lock your account, and throw away the key. ❤
