It has good ending tho. it made me look forward to the next season.
I feel as if even though it was a sad anime, it didn't have such a strong theme as all the other works in the video. The deeper meaning and connection to why the works in this video are truly sad goes further than just someone dying or losing something or gaining happiness, but maybe more like fulfillment and understanding the certain joys in life are more than meets the eye. I did like plastic memories a lot though imo. Definitely also a good work, just not as high ranked as refined pieces like these.

SPOILER ALERT!!!!
Mannnn I just finished watching Hotarubi no Mori e, and honestly it was so emotionally draining. How do I put this...the movie was so shallow, in a sense that everything was portrayed so superficially i.e. their interactions, conversations and the way they act around each other. I'm not sure what the director was going for when he made the movie as short as it is (with all the time skips and everything); I'm sure he had his reasons and maybe its a style he's chosen to go with, but mannnnnn....its so wastedd. For a movie this short, it has collectively touched the hearts of millions of viewers, and it is still doing so today, because the audience not only understands, but is also able to feel the story's greater emotional significance that was present the whole time, under the surface. If only we were given moreeee, eg. maybe an insight into what Hotaru and Gin were thinking about whenever they stared off into space, when the boy touched Hotaru's hand (so much emotion in her face but that scene was sooo short), or maybe even beef up Gin's backstory COS ???? he was abandoned as a child and was given a chance at life, BUT it unknowingly became a curse that stripped him of human connection...... this is causing me to tear up.. but so much could have been done to polish Gin's backstory and DAMN maybe it would have elicit a bigger punch in all of our emotional guts. I was caught off guard when the accident happened and Gin finally disappeared. By the time the movie ended, I was left with a void and an ache in my heart. Didn't get the closure I need. Maybe this was all part of the director's plan but mannnnn so much more could have been accomplished.
PS : This is a longest comment I have ever written and honestly I didn't expect myself to feel so much for an anime film. It touched me and at the same time hurt me as well. I'm just sharing because I feel like I needed to get this off my chest. As someone who watches sad movies with my emotions laid bare; thereby allowing myself to really feel and immerse, I would like to apologise in advance if what I said sounded naive or offensive to some!!

Vol 1 and vol 2 list is good. This is a good set of anime recommendations to watch. For me I find steins;gate one of the most depressing and sad animes that I have watched.

Kimi ga Nozomu Eien definitely needs to be on one of these lists. That was probably the first anime I've seen that just strait shook me. Also, being a 2003 release it really paved the way for a lot of these slice of life tragedy animes.
Akame Ga Kill made me cry. They keep you invested only to break your heart slowly on each episodes.

i first saw maquia when my anime club decided that it was the movie of the week. i was sobbing on the inside and i tried so hard to control my tears bc i didnt want the others to see me cry. maquia was a rlly great movie and i actually thought it was a romance when it was actually about parenthood. highly recommend it.
