      Marauding monkeys would make me really mad. The fact that they are smart and cunning would be frustrating, do you have to build methods to exclude them from your garden or do you just have to tolerate them and plant enough food to go around?

    One tip I have for moisten your peat moss or coconut core is to add 9 gallons of water for 11 gallons of peat moss.
    Just mix it and the peat moss if it bone dry it will slowly absorb all the water in about 20 minutes :)

    I have some dragon tongue beans I bought from Baker Creek back in 2012, and they “expired” I think in 2014. I planted 12 this year from that packet and had 100% germination rate.
    I’ve bought a lot of seeds from them in the past, but they’ve stopped selling to the European Union, which I’m pretty sad about, lol.
    I’ve started “panic planting” my favorite plants from them, so I can refresh my seed stock so I don’t lose them forever. They’ve got an amazing selection of products, and I haven’t found anyone in Europe that has half their stock of rare seeds.

Do you use any companion planting or do you concentrate one crop per area? I'd love to get some tips on how to control critters and bad bugs effectively. Thanks!

    • @ScottHead
      @ScottHead  4 года назад

      I actually have few pests,but I did have spider mites last year and did a video on Neem oil. I also have snails and slugs ad use iron phosphate granules to reduce their numbers. Other pests though I have not had the opportunity yet to battle much. If I get some pests, I'll do videos on controlling them. I anticipate vine borers in my squash since I have so much of it this year, but the bugs generally are kept in check by simply letting nature take care of them (wasps hut caterpillars, ladybugs, assassin bugs, etc.) I do intercrop a lot to confuse pests, and did speak of that in a video recently but I can't remember which. I try to plant many kinds of things in one space. Let me think about this request and see what I can do. Thanks for commenting, I do appreciate it.

    I love this gardener's videos, they are simple, clear and very easy to follow. Scott keep up your growing and gardening. I have to ask what do you do with all of your vegetables, especially when we are practicing social distancing?

      We eat them all or preserve them. Usually by fermentation.

    Where are you located? I’m in South Texas and garden all year. Planted Kentucky wonder pole beans today. Have had good luck with him in the past and they are stringless which to me is very important. Have several vegetables as well. I like your ideas and the details you share.

      I've grown Ping Tung in containers and they can benefit from a tomato cage.

    Hey Scott, I'm growing bush beans in a few 5 gallon buckets. After germination and when I thin, whats the maximum amount of plants I could successfully grow in each? Thanks for the great video!

      with bush beas you could probably cram more in that you think, maybe five or six if you keep them fertilized.

    My figs have broken dormancy and unfortunately I have finally got the pots to put them in. All three are 3 foot tall but single stems. Two were started from stem starts and one is 5 years old and just never has done well. Can I still transplant them or should I wait another year? I'm also 9a but HUMID Fl 9a. So glad to see the cane growing and to see the chickens! Yea for you.

      You might not want to risk it if they are not dormant. If you must though, sooner I’d better.

    I just fd a red bean in my kitchen had sprouted a bit so planted it n its growing fast! Question- it seems to have a very thin stem n is falling down so shld I just wrap it round a stick as I don't hav any trailing thing? Also experimenting with ginger, turmeric, n orange! sweet potato in water has sprouted both shoots n roots 😁 any videos on those will be appreciated 👍🙏 Have a great Sunday 🌸

      I have a sweet potato video, just recently posted it. As for the bean plant, it might be a climbing bean, I've never grown that kind but it sounds like a vine instead of a bush.You will need some sort of trellis or pole for it to climb.

      We hope to make sugar and syrup. Need to find a cane crusher to extract the juice.

    I soak my seeds at least overnight, and throw them in a jar with Nitrogen innoculent, before planting. I grow bush beans, and not sure planting in such a deep pot is necessary. Will you be culling the extra plants, or transplanting to another location?

    How did the asparagus beans in a container work out? Did that trellis work well for it?
    I may have to plant them that way for lack of better options.
    How late do you think you can start them in Zone 9a?

    • @ScottHead
      @ScottHead  Год назад +1

      I don't honestly remember how these beans did but I also don't recall any bean failures. I think if you get some beans planted now you will get a crop before it gets too hot for most beans. Consider lima beans and cowpeas for super hot climates, they thrive.

    Would you add an inoculate to the soil as you plant any legumes? I have done this every year I plant beans or peas and the crops always are prolific. Just wondering.

    • @ScottHead
      @ScottHead  2 года назад

      I never do. The beneficial bacteria are present already, inoculants are added insurance.

    Sorry for the unrelated question to this post Scott, but I would really appreciate your feedback.I am growing celebrity tomatoes this year ,they are neither determinate nor indeterminate.Would you prune it like indeterminate or let it bush out?

    • @ScottHead
      @ScottHead  4 года назад

      I’d prune the leaves that touch the ground and just keep the leaf branches from choking out the interior. But that’s all I’d do with a semi-determinate tomato.
