A very informative and easy to understand video. I am attending a Phlebotomist course on Monday and wanted to have a bit of knowledge before I go. This has been a great help. Thank you!
This is amazing ! I’m really impressed by the way he is trying to break dawn everything, and make it easy to understand . Please make more videos ! Thank you for your great videos !
First time was my best time. This is awesome. Thank you. Nurses do everything. I think nurses should not be allowed to handle blood only phlebotomist should do all things with blood. They should take care of the patent other needs.
Most nurses can draw blood just as good if not better than a phlebotomist so why do you say that??? Some have a knack for drawing blood and some just don't but that applies to nurse, phlebotomist's, doctor's, etc.
I have extreme needle phobia and had a fear induced epileptic episode when training to handle my phobia once. Theere was no need to call a hospital though I was fine after a little rest. My worst experience though where when I went to the hospital last November and was pressured into agreeing to ablood draw even if I had just gotten to the point in my theraphy were one particular nurse I trust could do it, before this theraphy there had been 27 years since my last needle procedure so not scaring me when I finally had started theraphy where important but I was pressured into it. First of all I was lied to, the one doing the procedure said she would not start changing tubes before I said I was ready but she just started. When she inserted the needle it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced and I screamed at the top of my lungs the whole time but she never asked if I where ok nor did she stop I was in to much pain to respond to anything in the room or ask her to stop and she did not stop. I had told them beforehand that I would not be in a state of mind to care for myself afterwards but after the blood draw I was just left alone and not checked on, they did not roll down the sleeve of my top so when I finally got out of the panic filled daze where I lay rolled into a ball crying my arm was blue, completely blue. I was bruised at the site for weeks and it was so painful I had to be on painkillers. A nerve had been hit so for months I had problems with that arm, not being able to stand heat or cold and sudden episodes of pain. I went to the doctor and he discovered I had gotten an capsuled in infection in the vein which pressed on the nerves in the area. All the progress I had done in my theraphy where gone, just gone and I am more afraid of needles than ever. I need several exminations but I will never get them. I will never let anyone near me with a needle again. Today I ended up eating something I am allergic to by accident and for quite some time I was struggeling to breathe, now do not worry my allergy medicine eventually started working but I would not go to the emergency room as they would be able to do very little without using needles. I will never again seek medical attention if it involves needles, never. Not being sentive and scaring patients can have serious long term effects.
Thank you so much. we share your videos in class.. I find that when drawing blood it is harder to pull slowly on the syringe than it is on the fake arm. love from Australia

I've had at least one or two patients who were in a phlebotomy chair, and after drawing blood, they suddenly thrashed and passed out, while slipping through the arm rest; ending on the floor in a sitting position.
what are the symptoms if you puncture an artery accidentally vs puncturing a nerve accidentally? Would puncturing an artery cause burning sensation down the patient's arm?
Ahh. Thank you! As soon as I read "burning sensation" on a question I immediately thought that puncturing a nerve would cause this, not an artery. It was a bit confusing but thank you for clarifying! I really appreciate it! :)
one of my fellow students in clinicals gave me a NASTY big hematoma on my hand yesterday! never had one happen before and it freaked me out so bad to see a bulge immediately swelling. do you think this is likely a collapsed vein since it happened immediately? or do you think it’s more likely a lack of pressure applied or her going through the vein?
I’m sorry to hear about your experience. It is most likely that your vein collapsed. Without seeing it that is the most likely. It will bruise but heal in a few days.

There are some special tests at clinics, that require a preservative be added but the clinic will specify what they are using and exactly how much. A routine laboratory wouldn't be familiar with those tests.
