"So Red the Rose" made its world premiere at my favorite movie theatre, the beautiful Colonial Theatre in Richmond. It was a logical choice as the Paramount venue in the Confederate Capital, with stars who were both Virginians.
I normally do not watch movies concerning the civil war a tragic part of american history which no screenwriter can wholly capture. Yet because of the great actor Randolph Scott I would consider watching. As a direct descendant of slaves who where fortunate to be separated from the larger society for 50 years after slavery and ended up owning the very land where they had toiled on the sea island of South Carolina may be enlightening.
What a lovely tribute! Margaret Sullavan is my favourite actress from the Golden Age of Hollywood! In So Red The Rose she showed us a glimpse of the Scarlett she could have played... May I ask where you found your copy? This film is so hard to find and most copies are not in such good condition as yours seems to be. Anyway, thank you very much for sharing!
@gingercady007 You're right.hey should show more of those hard-to-find movies like this one. I hope you get to watch "So Red The Rose", it's really good!
I have always wanted to see this film. Its limited success was the reason so many studios rejected Gone With The Wind before it was published and went viral. It looks pretty good here although Twelve Years A Slave has reminded the world why the Civil War took place ...
Some years back, I bought a very collection of odd old movies on several DVDs, and So Red the Rose was one of them. If you set a search on Ebay, you might eventually find a copy..
Happy Birthday to one of my favorite actor's.
He was the best.

I have wanted to see this movie for years. It is based on a true story in Natchez MS.
I bought the DVD on eBay. Only way to see it. Very good.
