  • Today im watching some incredible, scary or just weird camera work I found on reddit. specifically r/PraiseTheCameraMan
    r/PraiseTheCameraMan describes themselves as...
PTCM is a hub for sharing above average camera operation; capturing calculated recording angles; maintaining good camera control, general perception, also properly controlling what's in the frame. Interesting content is not necessarily a solid ground for giving praise regardless of how good the content is on its own.

The idea and implementation with the skateboard is ingenious.

The slow motion of the tank Shell was done by the slow mo guys you can even watch their behind the scenes Video on RUclips.
They used a super slow motion camera schotind a mirro which was automatically being turned and timed with an visual sensor

I once saw an Indian steadicam operator mount his monitor onto the vest. With an articulating arm, the monitor was held just in front of/below his face. Have you ever seen that? Ever tried it? You’d have to use a longer cable but it seemed kind of cool.

I haven't tried that but I did try doing it on the handle. The problem is it blocked my view of the ground when I was walking around. To me it's a problem that doesn't really need solving, but I appreciate the idea 😁

Good video what advice do you have for a beginner who’s making RUclips videos should be a lot of camera movement is static shots OK and what advice do you have for shooting B roll?

i guess my best advice is to just stick with it and dont be too hard on yourself if it doesn't come out looking like you wanted it to. your style will change over time.

The mirror makes sense, otherwise you'd need to turn the camera 90° in about 50milliseconds, perfecly timed. Could be done with an industrial servo motor, but the camera/optics would fell apart for sure. :D
If i'd have to make that flower stop motion, i wouldn't make a permanent dolly or whatever. I think they just left some markers, and went back to the same place every day. Maybe a small dolly on a tripod. Put down the tripod, adjust the image to yesterday's position, move back the camera on the dolly, take the next shot.

Makes sense of I didn't really think about it

That slow motion shot of the artillery shell is done by a robot. The camera itself does not move. It is pointed at mirror which does the tracking. It is all pre-calculated of course, since they know the speed of the projectile in advance. Hardest part is to get it in focus (as always).

The flower one was for a David Attenborough programme, so was always going to be high quality. The last one was Ross Kemp the actor who has put himself and I guess his crew in some very dangerous places for programmes. Check out his early work ruclips.net/video/pnRW2jmMxGw/видео.html , somewhat different.
