    If I ever say I'm going to do one of these again somebody slap me. With this though, I'm done talking about Tales of the Abyss.
    For now....
    There is potential in the far off future for 1 more video about a certain piece of cut content, I just need to research it more and find out if its worth it. I think it's interesting but if there's not much there then this will be the last video. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the vid more than I did working on it haha. 3 more vids to come this month, continuing the sort of "Variety act" that's been going on here lately.

      @@camilovelez8851 Yeah, I usually know before I even start a video if it'll perform well or not, but I wanted this resource to be there for those who go looking later. If only I could say working on it was fun haha.

    Thank you for this, this is probably my favourite Tales of games. I love all the characters development, combats, skits etc. Can't believe that I've completed this game more than 5 times, it's just that good and probably cause I got a crush on Tear when i was a kid lol.

    You actually managed to recap the story of Abyss in only about two hours… Bravo.
    So… Side-quest recap, when?
    I kid, I kid. Take that well-deserved break after such an insane undertaking.
    And seriously, well done. I know you keep saying you’re not fully satisfied with how it turned out, but honestly, this is good work. Even before accounting for how difficult this game is to summarize.

    this game brought me into the JRPG world if I'm quite honest. I used to watch my brother play FF games, but nothing brought me by the heart strings like Tales of the Abyss. Thank you for your hard work for this, it legitimately helped relive the good emotions I had with it

    The game that made me feel empty at my heart the end. Losing all the friends, losing all the stories, losing all the locations i have lived through to the end. What a magnificent game it was, especially the way the sheltered, and prude Luke's change from snobby brat to a kind hearted man was aspiring. This is my favorite JRPG of all time. I score it much higher than the Final Fantasy series, as it has an actual character progresion and redemption inside. Bravo to the makers and thank you for sharing this lovely game with us.

    Thanks for the recap! Interesting note, though--There's a major romantic sidequest between General Cecile and General Frings that takes some doing to complete, so it's easy to miss. If you do complete it though, it dramatically alters Frings' final conversation at the temple.

    Abyss is probably my fav game ever at this point, I play it through every couple of years (and have like 10 play throughs already). Though it took me a few runs to understand the story properly.
    I adore the story, lore and characters. Even played the whole thing on Unknown with most AD skills off with my cousin co op lol.

    Thank you for this recap! I've played this game years ago and had pretty much forgotten everything in this story minus some key moments, and I hadn't owned the game since then to replay it. You can guess my surprise when I randomly thought about this game again just today, decided to look up to see if someone posted a story summary of this game to refresh my memory, and lo and behold exactly what I needed was posted only a week ago. You did a great job on this!

    Love the work thank you so much. I always hated how the party treated Luke. In my opinion Luke doesn't have responsibility for sinking of akzeriuth. Van does. If we want to stretch more, so does jade, ion and even guy. Tear knew how little Luke knew of the world. ToA used to be criticized for its heavy use of jargon, but that may be purposeful as Luke serve as a surrogate for the audience. He's as clueless. Even a cute woodland creature knew the basics of phonic artes well enough to know what "5th phonon to the ceiling" meant when jade commanded. That's how normal this is to everyone except the audience and Luke. That's brilliant story telling but I digress
    Luke's condition is obviously abnormal. And nobody took him seriously. Imagine not just being amnesiac, but literally not knowing anyone. Having your own personality, but having to be someone else you never knew. He never knew his parents, Natalia, anyone in baticul. He never knew how to walk, talk, what 1+1 is. Literally formless. And everyone expects him to know all of that and more. No wonder he was such an asshole. Nobody took time. Nobody except Van. What did they want to happen when they get frustrated with his lack of everything? Of he's gonna latch on to Van and trust him.
    ToA is a great experiment on identity, empathy, and responsibility. It's a helluva tales of game

    I've struggled for many years on the best Tales game. Vesperia is the one that I enjoy the characters and world of the most, Symphonia was my introduction, and somehow Graces wormed its way into my heart. I do love them all, but Abyss? I don't think there is a better Tales story than Abyss. It's the one that's stuck with me the most. Luke might not be my favorite lead, but he's the best one. In my heart Vesperia is my favorite, but Abyss is the best one.

    Might be a good idea to sum up the mangas, the Asch episode shows a lot about his character, that sadly, the game did a really poor job of showing, he's such a good character that you can only get to know a bit through side-quests.
    Ps: I'm still gonna go through everything so I dunno if you said anything about it.
    PS2: Did you try tales of destiny remake yet? After playing Abyss I highly recommend it. I was a part of the translating team and it released recently.

    • @TarksGauntlet
      @TarksGauntlet  2 года назад +2

      I haven't tried the destiny remake yet no. I've played original Destiny on PS1 though and quite enjoyed it, as well as Eternia/"Destiny 2." Would like to get around to more of the fan scene for the series though.
      As far as this story recap goes though it's strictly for the game. Just a straight run through the plot from point to point with very little fluff. Would love to look more into Asch and Jade especially but that was outside of the scope of what I wanted to try here.

    • @Yurimeitzen
      @Yurimeitzen 2 года назад

      @@TarksGauntlet Well pretty sure you're gonna love the remake then, cause they actually made the rest of the party members playable and have a place in the party, while on the Ps1 version you could only go on with 4 and you had no reason to not play with the Swordian Masters.
      Yup I guessed it, it's just like the game does a poor job of showing Asch's character in general, and since you focused a lot on Luke in the last video, which I agree, I think I've never seen a main character grow so much in a game, it's kinda sad that Asch doesn't have that much attention D:.

    • @TarksGauntlet
      @TarksGauntlet  2 года назад +1

      Part of me would almost like to look at Jade in a video even more than Luke cause -and I'm sure you'll agree with me- Luke is kind of talked about enough. Asch has an interesting story too but like you said, a lot of it isn't really in the game itself or is only vaguely hinted at. He's honestly one of the biggest victims in the story.
      That said, I don't think I'll be touching anything else abyss related for a long while. Looking at this story recap was driving me crazy and it took all my will to just get it done and out haha. If I ever do make another vid though the plan right now is on a character that was entirely cut from the game.

    • @Yurimeitzen
      @Yurimeitzen 2 года назад +1

      @@TarksGauntlet Hahahaha I can imagine the work editing AND recording the whole 2 hours thing. Hopefully I think after they finish re-releasing the anime on youtube and with the recent rumors about remakes, they eventually do an Abyss remake and your video will get a lot of views since there's not a lot content about it :D.
      Jade has a lot of stuff for his character specially on skits, I don't remember the manga showing more than what we already knew about him, but yeah aside from the main party even though the side characters were awesome I still wanted to see more about Arietta (she should be our party member instead of Anise :V) and Legretta.
      Either way enjoy the break :>.

    This is one game I'll be truly sad if it every completely disappears, and is one reason I believe game preservation must happen. It's only ever been on PS2 and 3DS, not the most accessible things anymore between the game, systems, and play ability comfort. I don't know how well to trust them to remake it anymore either, given things that happened to Symphonia. But I hope it gets another port, especially on PC, and more especially a good port. And with the same voices, don't redo that, it'll ruin the feeling of everything.

    • @chanbang378
      @chanbang378 3 месяца назад

      I’m really hoping for some kind of remake too, it definitely deserves one and I keep hoping for one for the 20th anniversary but at this point I am low on hopes for it happening.
      Of course the game has its flaws but the characters and story is one of my favourites and it should be a lot more accessible

    Honestly, Luke was treated dirty. He had no reason not to trust Van since he had no reference for any misgivings. He was a victim, and the whole party was ready to trust Asch immediately despite having no reason to trust him over Luke. And yes, I understand that Luke was acting brashly and he was warned several times, but he had no reference for why his actions were bad. I get that they went for here, but this is honestly one of the worst plot twists in Tales games. I do like Luke's redemption afterwards, and I like that he took responsibility, but the plot twist itself is horrible.

    • @TarksGauntlet
      @TarksGauntlet  27 дней назад

      Luke was treated dirty, but just as he had no reference for any misgivings, the cast didn't understand the depth or reason for his ignorance and naturally expected better of him as well.
      When all was revealed they were more patient with him but yeah, damage was kind of done by that point.
