- On June 19th, 2023, I made a stop at the Prairie Central Co-op outside of Pontiac, Illinois on my way home from Missouri. There I discovered a couple first generation EMDs loading a Union Pacific grain train. A former Canadian Pacific GP9u was doing the honors of slowly pulling the hoppers through the loader while an old Santa Fe GP7u sat by the connection with the UP Joliet Subdivision. Some bigger Union Pacific GEs sat on the other leg of the connection track waiting for the loading to finish. I also caught a glimpse of Amtrak 305 passing by the co-op at speed. Overall, there wasn't much happening, but I still thought it was a neat operation!

Wow, that's one big grain elevator! Thanks for the great drone shots of this expansive operation. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Thanks! Cheers!
Used to work there for a couple seasons, great place to work. Great group of guys. Can't say I've ever seen a video or even photos taken of this place, glad someone finally did! Great job!
Thank you! I try to cover places not documented much and I’m glad I was able to film this one!
Keep 'em' coming Sam!
Got lots in store!
Who knows, I may have seen that unit working here in L.A. It's funny how some models go on forever then other much younger models are instantly scrapped. Farming note: That rectangle shed is interesting. It almost looks like the kind of storage you would normally see in Europe. Unfortunately I can't find a photo of the inside.
Just depends on how well they’re maintained throughout their years.
Nice video!
Awesome footage Sam 👏🏿
Thanks!
Cool video
I work for MVPX the owner purchased a hand full of the CP GP-9 and some got rebuilt and repainted and some we just got back up and running and put back into service it just boils down to what the customer wants. Great video
Finally. A video with something interesting to see - not just another video of six-axle GE's. Thank you very much for this colorful and different RR video. Much appreciated.
Thanks! That’s what I like to post, something other than what you usually see on the mainlines.
That old Santa Fe Geep looks in very good condition. What a great view at3:58looking in both directions.
Very rare to see one in that good of shape!
I am glad that you decided to stop at the Prairie Central Do-op elevator in Pontiac, Illinois on your way home from Missouri, Sam! This is a splendid video. The drone footage of the elevator and the train working its way under the unloading shelter gives an exceptionally good feeling of what happens at a grain elevator. As you brought the drone down the track to the former Santa Fe GP7u, we could see that the engine was running since we saw one of the fans spinning. From the position of the Union Pacific engines, I presume the grain train will be heading south on the Union Pacific's Joliet Subdivision. The Amtrak train was moving at track speed on its way to Chicago.
