He used the in game Killer instinct Gold cheats, that doesnt make the opponent fall so you can continue comboing them forever like this.
This combo is only with the KI Gold cheats and would never work on the real arcade version of Killer Instinct 2

Plus they added new characters added a tutorial and team battle, maybe orchid's combo looks weird but I wouldn't say the games a downgrade.
