@@angelmoreno5191 My recommendation is to forget about what anyone else thinks and go and test them over time. The one that you cannot stop thinking about is the one to consider buying.
Substance content! So many people spend so Much money to buy fragrances just to feel good about the buy. That’s impulse buying which leads to loss of investment and loss of self.
If you’re new to buying fragrance or the fragrance community lesson #1 should always be to wear before you buy. Order a small sample(if possible) or go somewhere local that sells fragrance and spray it on and see how you like it after that. Sometimes I’ll go 2 or 3 times to make sure i actually love the fragrance and not just the idea of the fragrance because that can definitely happen.
@@badatsmash7974 great advice. There’s so many fragrances that get hype that I didn’t even like. Some I didn’t like grew on me in a big way. Unfortunately it’s difficult to try clone fragrances
This real bro. I literally don’t like challenging fragrances. I only buy colognes that I like. For example ysl myself people keep saying it’s boring & 6/10 but to me it’s a 10/10. & if I listen to the weird frag community I would have never bought it. Smh. People buy stuff that YOU like.
@nh9036 I’m with you. I enjoy fragrances the same way I would look at art. I enjoy going to a galleries to see interesting, unique or quirky art but I don’t want to go home and see that same art in my living room. Some fragrances are best experienced on occasion, however day to day I keep it simple/easy-going.
True, for the price of one or two bottles of fragrance you can buy at least 20-30 2ml decants and spray each at least 4 times. I do this with perfumes that are not that easy to find in stores(amouage, pdm, tom fords). But out of the 20 samples I buy, maybe I'll find one or two that really get me feeling. And most of the times I compare them with what I already have and love and I find it difficult to justify buying them.
I have noticed that perfumes I love the most have been dislikes or at least weird at first. "Love at first sniffs" have been those I get bored much faster.
I really appreciate the open conversation-style content. This is what RUclips has been missing. Keep up the great work with these fragrance videos-- I'm sure your channel will gain lots of attraction very soon at this rate.
I watched your video on fragrance addiction, and the next day I put 12 of my perfumes up for sale. I have felt for a long time that I have too many perfumes to ever finish, and so I decided to cut it in half. Cheers
I agree with the sentiment of the video and I also bought Aventus based on hype like everyone else - but for me after all these years its still my most worn cologne going on multiple rebuys. The "choose 2 similar perfumes and keep only 1" method is super effective in getting rid of redundancy, love to see it.
Thanks for sharing! Generally I'm not *too* fussed on redundancy, but in some instances, certain fragrances don't deserve to rejoin the collection. It all comes down to personal preference
Funny how our experience can be shaped by expectations. I first smelled Aventus in 2017 when I was at a niche perfumery store buying a present for my wife. The lady in the store asked if I wanted to try some men’s fragrances so I half heartedly said why not. I owned 5 fragrances which had all been purchased for me as presents by other people. I can remember them all - Polo Blue, CH 212, Prada Luna Rossa, YSL L’Homme and Mont Blanc Legend Spirit. She sprayed Aventus on my arm and completely blew my mind. It was on a completely different level to any other fragrance I had smelled. That experience ultimately shaped my decision to dive into the fragrance rabbit hole years later even though Aventus isn’t one of my personal favourites today (I own a 2019 bottle that isn’t even half empty).
I can totally understand this. The first time I ever tried Aventus, I was blown away too. I had such a sour taste in my mouth after experiencing the difference between batches (and that I only REALLY bought it so I could say I had it).
Fantastic content as always bud, you are my daily dose of "Think, before you buy!"... Was just about to pull the trigger on a perfume that I "want", but it's not a "Need". The "Want" was influenced by the hype train rather than a personal love for the perfume. Thank you again!
Loving your content Our skin chemistry, personal tastes & lifestyles are all so different aren’t they? My husband smells delicious in Dior Homme Intense, TF Black Orchid, Dior Eau Sauvage (the original summery cologne, not the Johnny Depp one), Creed Aventus & Green Irish Tweed plus Bohemia from Granado. He treated me to Aventus for her but I don’t really like it (but wear it for him) & I also followed the hype & bought myself BR540 which was an expensive mistake. I have around 40 fragrances in my collection (including travel sizes) with some great hits but also some distinctly average ones. For 2025 you‘re helping me be more mindful before I buy. I want to enjoy the beautiful ones and not feel guilty about money I’ve wasted on the disappointments. Thank you for supporting me on this journey
Funny, just the other day I was pondering if I were to reduce my collection of ~40 fragrances to just 1 for warm and 1 for cold weather, what would I keep. My choices ended up being Kenzo Homme EDP and Dunhill Egyptian Smoke. Both of those are more of "hidden gems" than "hype beasts". Also both of them are far from the most expensive, most complimented, even objectively best perfumes in my collection, heck I'd be hard pressed to recommend the Kenzo to anyone else. Yet I feel they suit my personal taste the best. Remember gentlemen price and hype isn't equal to your preferance.
I agree with what you say. Lots of us, when we start our fragance journey, accumulate fragances that we regret buying. At the beggining we don't know 100% our taste and sometimes we fall for the hype. After 5 years of being very interested in perfumes, now every purchase I make is a success, because I trust my taste, not what others say. Thanks for the video❤
Great video again Alex! I was never too curious about Creed Aventus because even if it was the greatest fragrance of all time, it's price is just too high for what I am willing to pay for a fragrance. But it was mostly reading all the comments about how it's reformulation basically killed the performance that made me even less curious. Then my friend who's big into fragrances send me a sample haul including Aventus and thankfully my opinion was: "it's really nice, but I don't think it's anything special". And when I couldn't smell it around me anymore after 2 hours I felt great not falling for the hype 😇
Good Honest Review and advice without tactical buying ploys!.... I always start from basic before moving up levels. Another worthwhile option to consider is looking at Middle Eastern Clones of some of these big hyped sellers which a lot of the times smell better, can be cheaper, some bottles look luxurious and last longer depending on perfume... But always try and sample to be on safe side because people's skin are different.
It’s so refreshing to see someone that doesn’t repeat the same topic of videos like others, typically reviewing the newest hype designer to come out. All of your past fragrance videos have been hits in my eyes Alex and I’m grateful for what you are sharing because I am only now starting to like fragrances at 19 (nearly 20) so I can learn how to quit while I’m ahead so to speak 😅. I’ve had Prada L’Homme and recently coral fantasy (along with a few other designers like Givenchy and Versace pour homme) for about half a year so maybe my collection has around 6 bottles, yet I think I’m mostly done with designer bottles because no profiles interest me anymore and Id like to save my money . I want to ask if you have any thoughts on the house of PDM? Carlisle genuinely might be my next niche purchase, but I can’t pick between it and Herod. Given I purchased Naxos and Grand Soir (35ml) not too long ago I’ll be waiting for winter before I buy (and so I can grab it at a price closer to what I’m willing to spend rather than the $500 I see it at right now lol), but I really can’t choose which I prefer they are both so good. Leaning towards carlisle, even though I may get both eventually, but anyway do you have any experience with them + any possible recommendations for the future? If not no worries, I just have to express to you that I’m super happy I’ve learned to buy only what I enjoy and I’m eternally grateful for your grounded experience in sharing your journey. Seriously superb stuff dude, you’re the person the fragrance audience has been needing, thanks!!
Thanks so much legend! Really appreciate this. Regarding PDM - I personally feel they're an overhyped clone house positioned as a niche house. With that said, I have a sample of Carlisle and very much enjoy it. Test it thoroughly before buying, but if you absolutely love it, it's a solid choice.
Absolutely agreed. Great advice for new people getting into this hobby. Beware, keep buying fragrances is a very expensive temptation and can quickly get out of control.
Aventus was a good frag upon release and I had been a long term Creed fan for many years prior. For me, it felt like most guys either wore no fragrance or if they did, 75% were wearing Aventus clones. It was everywhere. I personally had no interest in smelling like someone ex (heard that on a few occasions) I much prefer something that nobody else is really wearing (or has even heard of) and so niche frags fit the bill for me and I have some fantastic ones. I too am trying to get down to owning 3 frags. one summer, one winter and one ‘all season’ just to break it up!
I can appreciate that. I'd rather not smell like someone's ex either haha. I've found contentment in a few popular fragrances, but with a few that most non-fragrance people would have never heard of. I'm cool with that
Honestly the whole hype thing is crazy, i remember like 2 years ago there was a rumor that prada l’homme intense is discontinued, it ended up in every top 10 list and now turned out it still exists, i hardly see it anywhere on RUclipsrs list, even tho its a nice scent n i like it its just strange
Mate you're so right, I kept trying to love Dior Homme Intense just because it's been voted as Best Men’s Fragrance of All Time on Fragrantica but it's just a like for me, at least the current formulation. Instead of DHI, I bought what I actually loved from the first sniff...Dior Tobacolor. Perfumes for me are like my relationship with my gf at the beginning...everything clicked and felt really easy, no games or hard contemplating what to do, everything was in flow.
Amazing content-- short and sweet, to the point. If possible, could you do a 'If I were to restart my fragrance collection, I would pick THESE fragrances' style of video... your perspectives are very much appreciated!
You have earned my respect here... I was looking for a replacement for Eau Savauge (not to be confused with Sauvage) and chose Costa Azzurra, precisely because it represents my taste better than teh ver popular Aventus.
Have you tried acqua di parma? so underrated, they have a really good blue fragrance named fico something... one of the best summer smells ive used. and Oud is amazing.
Fico Di Amalfi! Excellent fragrance. ADP are a fantastic house, who clearly take care when making their scents. Light and not very long lasting usually, but classy and lovely.
Agreed. ADP is a very underrated house. Their frags remind me of creeds…fizzy, effervescent and bright, they don’t last very long but who cares, they smell authentic.
Alex, your videos came at the right time, and have resonated with me. I’ve taken many trips on the hype train. Have concentrated on purchasing samples and no blind buys. I also really appreciate the popularity of unisex fragrances of late, which I think reflects more acceptance of individuality, and is breaking down unnecessary gender barriers. As a F I’ve worn both M and F fragrances for as long as I can remember. With the current heat in our great state, I purchased Hermes Eau Givree as a late Christmas gift to myself, having really enjoyed the sample. Multiple compliments last weekend out at lunch in the hills, which was lovely but to be honest I just really enjoy the fragrance in the heat no matter what others think 😊
@@takeenr2461What other people think about it shouldn't carry any weight. You might try it and fall in love with it. Other peoples' thoughts shouldn't matter.
Cologne prices are marked up so high. Never feel shame for going into the department store and trying on the fragrances. They receive tester bottles, you’re not stealing. Try on, walk out, and experience the fragrance.
Fair point. I ended up buying Nishane’s Wulong Cha because it was being hyped on socials, and everyone said it was a great tea scent. But I already had a fantastic tea scent (Neroli Outrenoir), and honestly I could barely smell any tea in Wulongcha. Lesson learnt, I don’t hate it but similar to your experience, I enjoy it less than my other fragrances.
Ongoing great, honest and real content.💜 I have fallen for the trap of buying stuff because it hyped online. I have been keeping most of my fragrance purchases under 100 euro each so far as it's difficult to find samples in stores for the more expensive ones. I recently blind bought Prada Luna Rossa Ocean because of all of the hype around it on social media this past year and I have to say, it is a bare like but definitely not a love. 🤦♀ Maybe it is because it is January and I've just had an expensive couple of months but I have noticed I am checking in with myself much more since seeing your first video on fragrance addiction and asking, do I really want this fragrance? Is there something else in my collection that serves the same purpose? Cueing myself to wait to smell fragrances on myself instead of shooting from the hip with purchasing online and thinking a lot more about replacing the ones in my collection that aren't loves with ones that are instead of just adding adding adding. Thanks again for your thought provoking and reflective commentary.👌
maybe you could make a video on fragrance anecdotes, like going through your collection and remembering a time you wore them. Justin Copeland has a funny one on fragrance horror stories
Hello! Everything you say is so true, I have blindly bought around 50 perfumes, and around 10 of them I think are good, don't be fooled by the hype. 🙂``sample first``
Bro you and I have a veryyyy similar taste and perspective. I’m literally wearing costa Azzura right now haha. Back 10 years ago, Aventus was unique and worth the price before it was hyped. Now there’s every house and there mother that’s trying to give the same vibe. You can get away with cheaper clones now days.
Great short video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. As per your request for other topics, I find blind-buying imitations or clones of expensive fragrances (rather than samples) difficult in terms of consumerism, clutter, environment, exploitation of labour, etc. Those clones highlight both, the often extortionate pricing of the mainstream brands, and the problems associated with bargain hunting and low-cost production. Another serious topic I believe I have overcome for myself, and that you already touched on in the current video, is the hunt for ever-better versions of fragrances or fragrance profiles I already own. How many almost-identical substitutes for Aventus do I need now that Aventus is no longer what it used to be? Which of those clones or surrogates am I going to end up wearing?
I have access to over 100 different fragrances and I wear something different most days and Aventus Cologne is the only one I get compliments on. It may be basic and over saturated but while I wear what I think smells good I can't help the dopamine hit when someone validates my taste in cologne.
Im still suprised that people buy fragrances based on hype without smelling the fragrance. That you can sell people mediocre fragrances for a premium price.
I bought a bottle of ADG Profumo in 2022, it still had the magnetic cap, but i think it's rubbish! It lasts barely an hour or two and is virtually a skin scent...! Have mentioned this to various fragrance influencers on line, and they near enough call me a liar..! Thankyou for you true accurate words...! I can't imagine how bad the formulation has become since 2022...!!
one thing missing on fragrances influenceres is the deeper analysis of the person wearing the perfume...they talk a lot about the scent, the performance etc. but the target is very important and it takes time and tries to fully evaluate yourself..for instance: I grew up in a place similar to the french Provence...sort of a continental, mediterrean clima...full of cypress trees, lemons, figues, aromatic herbs....for me costa azzura is a classy, refined piece of heaven...for other people it has a certain lemony sharp edge, sometimes also associated with an urine smell. Clean, uncomplicated scents that don't invade your privacy are often prefered, specially by younger demografic or people that are not into perfumes...On the other hand, if you like fragrances, like all passions and hobbys,...you will try things, dig deeper and get out the confort zone...
YES! I agree completely. The individual plays just as much a part as the fragrance itself. Certain people do not suit certain fragrances, whilst others suit them perfectly. This is something that is never spoken about.
*Im wearing ADG Profumo for the first time in like 4-5 months. Can’t speak to re-formulations (my bottle is from 2020) brother my bottle is as advertised.* Beautiful DNA is retained smoky dark nuances with slight earthy spice. And d@mn good longevity. Having said that, bottles are now scarce I wouldn’t pay $250 for it like you see ppl selling for on Mercari but $150 for a 4.2oz with the magnetic cap that’s kinda around what I think it makes sense to cost.
Just a reminder - if you have the smallest amount left in you bottle, use it sooner rather than later because it will go bad faster. I had that happen to me twice already 😂
My last blind buy was 2024 Acqua Di Gio Parfum. I bought it based of the Profumo hype (supposedly smells just like Profumo.) I now realize that I enjoy wearing 2020 ADG Profondo way more. I tried forcing myself to enjoy the new Parfum more or find things I enjoyed.. and I do enjoy the scent.. But, I just prefer Profondo way more lol. My last blind buy for sure.
Honestly Aventus is one of those fragrances that I will only buy clones of. It smells great but I had a decant of it and one of the more popular clones out there lasted 4 times longer than it.
I love Creed Aventus. Know it since 2013. Performance decreased unfortunately but still a good scent. Try Parfums Vintage Emperor Extrait as a good substitut.
But it smells great and I love it. And for me it's not even about fitting in. I just simply love the scent! Should it matter if a fragrance was hyped when you really like it? Would you rather fool yourself into thinking you'd rather have another fragrance that you don't like as much?
That's great that you love it! It's all personal preference. I just think it's important for people to have an honest conversation with themselves about why they're buying certain things.
Great video! Agreed with all (I'd add Dior Sauvage and Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb, which I find to be a tad too abrasive and loud to my liking). Then again, I much prefer clean, austere fragrances like Tom Ford Grey Vetiver if agreeableness is a concern.
I have to be honest, I love the way Creed Aventus smells. But the biggest let down is the performance. I have bought so many perfumes that should smell like aventus but to me nothing beats aventus in terms of how it smells to me. Thanks for the video mate.
I have to agree with you there - I actually said this in an earlier recording of this video but forgot to mention in this take. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
I have a feeling that aventus is marketed the most and people get paid to promote it. reason being is because mont blanc explorer have a similair smell for less than half the cost. so creed is a bit scared because if they suddenly discontinue, it will threaten their brand and that will be a huge weakness on there behalf.
It's definitely marketed a lot. Creed is more expensive because they genuinely do use better ingredients and more naturals, but the smell itself has been replicated so closely that it's no longer worth the price.
Aventus retails for $629 in Canada and I just can’t fathom paying that much for a fragrance. On top of that it’s overrated and you get a similar scent for 1/10th the price.
I collect based on memories myself, and the blind buys I do that I don't like, my younger brother, father or stepfather end up receiving, p much everyone benefits in my case haha I've also limited myself to under 100 bottles, but since I do give away or empty them over the years I never reach that limit (I'm currently at 67 fragrances and i use every single one, except for maybe the discontinued ones that smell special to me)
My advice: 1. Don’t listen to Fragrantica reviews. Only use it for note breakdown. 2. After looking at note breakdown, SAMPLE IT. Spray it on skin and on clothes. 3. Only buy what you love. It’s hard to quantify this, but you know it when you smell it.
Creed used to be so incredible. But the descendants selling off the family brand to Kering, and the multiple reformulations completely destroyed the magic that the original used to be. A symphony of smoky pineapple, barbershop shaving cream oakmoss and musk with a dryness from the birch. The original 2010 formula was really the "who is that?!" and "I am him" fragrance. Recent formulations just feel like they belong with the rest of the clones of itself ironically. The closest clone to the original is L'Aventure and its like $35USD. Fun Fact - theres a long standing conspiracy that the "death" of Aventus is what gave birth to Blue genre fragrances via Chanel in 2010. Chanel opted for smoky Grapefruit, jasmine, musks and heavy on the sandalwood with other similar notes to Aventus which lends creedence (pun) to why Bleu is the top mens frag.
I appreciate your honest view as fragrance youtuber. There are a lot of People who are influenced in Some reasons by commercial interest.I follow all the fragrance youtubers because I like good fragrances and good taste in life general. My favourite one is Aaron Teron Hughes by far because he has the knowledge.Taste is personal and you have to follow in general your instinct I guess.I prefer fragrances like Armani Code,Dior Homme intense,Tom Ford Ombre leaher,Chanel Bleu,YSL MSLF,.And speeking about Creed Aventus…Mont BLanc Explorer is more tha a good clone for 10% of the purchase😂I subscribe your channel bro!
Yeah I learned this the hard way. People are chasing this hobby, but there will always be a new scent..funny..they all start smelling the same after a while. Winter/Fall Spring/Summer Office Gourmand Dressy/Wedding Dumb Reach At most, you need 5 bottles of Cologne.
@ yeah in USA it cost 500 dollars which would be almost 800 Australian , I think they overprice Aventus in the US lol . Yeah probably Australia adds tax to the price because it’s not a big price difference when you exchange Australian dollar to euro
@@dieselboy77 $500 is for the 100ml. My bottle is 50ml. It's cheaper in Paris because it's made in Paris. They have no import costs so they can sell it cheaper. In Australia & the US, it's more expensive because they have to ship it and pay export tax, etc.
Alex, I love your vids! You’re a rising star! If I may say my opinion, I own hundreds of perfumes and sampled even more, I have to say Acqua di gio edp is the worst fragrance ever. Like seriously, don’t blind buy it. Try it first and I guarantee you will not want to get it even for free. Unpopular opinion: everything made from Alberto Morillas stinks to me.
The worst fragrance ever? There must be a particular note that Morillas consistently uses that doesn't agree with your nose. I can understand why it's not as popular as others out there, but *worst ever* is a strong title haha.
Let me tell you this guy is gonna get a lot of subscribers. Even me with 20 fragrances i bought because i followed a lot of hype or because it smelled nice at the moment and bought it directly. Now when i smell some of them i feel disgusted. i'm trying to reduce my collection to 3 fragrances for life now. If i can give one, advice when you are interested in a fragrance spray it on your hand and keep sniffing it troughout the day you will Know if it lasts and if you like the drydown only do two fragrances at the same time otherwise it gets polarizing. I know its hard it got me to but when you see your wallet after the choice is easier. Cheers. Ps i agree with the sample but in my country you only get a sample if you buy a fragrance
@@hey.alexedwardsyou’re welcome, yes they do we can try them but if you want samples you need to buy a fragrance and then they put some samples in the bag but most of the time it is from the same house Dior 😅sauvage. How is omit in your country can you ask a sample of a fragrance you would try?
@quicksilver3432 Generally we can't just ask for samples, but we can spray on our skin and let it dry down. I'd recommend doing this a couple of times to be sure you love something.
I just get dupes nowadays if im blind buying something. Theres always something for the budget. Its one thing to spend 20 to 30$ on a dupe blind buy and another thing to spend 150$ on something you may or may not like
If my first aventus was from 2020-2022 I would be also saying that it is not worth it, clean scent. Currently wearing a bottle from 2016, the pineapple is amazing. Will be rebuying, buy probably an F batch, these are not bad. The ones from 2020-2022 should have not been released at all, I only sensed citrus, musk and woods, those years are a shame.
I unfortunately fell into the hype of Creed Aventus in 2010... blind bought it, smelled, thought it was OK but not what it was hyped up to be. Just your average smelling men's fragrance
@hey.alexedwards I myself have been influenced by influencers for years. Meanwhile about 70 fragrances. Hardly wear them all. And always have to decide which one to wear when and where. That makes me unhappy. Therefore I am happy to see people here who seem to have made the same experience.
Do what I do, if you like a scent and it’s expensive, sell decants of it until you’ve made a big enough dent in the price but left enough scent for you to enjoy, given a have 100’s of scents that I would never possibly get through this justifies for me buying scents. I wouldn’t charge rip off prices either for decants just enough to cover the costs of the scent with a small profit towards the bottle. I’ve never bought Aventus, there’s way too many excellent clones for a 10th of the price. So again go for the clone options.
Can you do a comparison of your vintage Naxos bottle vs the 2025 formulations? I;d love to try Naxos, but am scarred it's watered down and smells different + is weak
To be honest, I'd rather not do comparisons between batches. I think it promotes the wrong message, and I don't want people to be obsessing over batch codes, etc. I'd recommend finding a store that sells Naxos, or buying a recent sample and testing it out. It may be different, but if you absolutely love it, who cares?
I own both the aventus and costa..and I think you are mistaken to see that they are interchangeable. Every fragrance lover should consider getting the aventus. As insanely overpriced as it is and despite its performance issues, it's my favourite. I think I can afford one great fragrance that costs as much as 3-4 very good ones combined.
You loving it doesn't guarantee everyone else will. I also didn't say they smell the same, just that this fragrance profile (masculine, fresh, smoky) was covered by one I personally preferred in my collection.
My aim now is to buy 2 bangers i love every year. Ill have fun buying the samples and deciding which one ill go for.i want a collection that i love.In my 50 bottle id re buy about 5, the rest ill use up over the next 5 years or so !
While I do own a few high end fragrances based off of reviews, I do have two that I genuinely can’t get enough of and smell the atomizer every day and they are Bond no9 Cooper square and Creed Erolfa
I had Aventus in 2012. It was WAY better back then. to this day I have NEVER smelled anything like it. It is so good that the fact that it’s so bad now makes me think that they purposely reformulated it because if they didn’t, people wouldn’t have to buy any other fragrance. If OG Aventus was never gotten rid of, 90% of guys would be wearing it and the modern “frag com” wouldn’t exist because there simply wouldn’t be a market for it. 8/10 fragrance lines from designer brands wouldn’t exist. Dior Sauvage wouldn’t exist. Everyone would just wear Aventus. I’m almost confident that our entire world would be different just due to the fact that everyone would smell like an alien from outer space. People wouldn’t be afraid of overthrowing oligarchs. There would be no Andrew Tate because everyone smells like Aventus. There might even be world peace if OG Aventus still existed. Hell, it might still exist but only for the world’s most powerful people in order to maintain control of their adversaries. That’s how good it was.
Hi, From Sydney Have about 50 bottles and use about 5 a year I guess. Only picking up one heavy hitter a year now. Last was Creed Aventus absolu. Good price down under. Just about to get Aventus as a weekender. have the 10mil in the Year of the Rabbit travel set. Also have Costa Azzurra, is good. All my blander / older bottles I use for work, to use up and clear space. Using up H24 for summer then moving to use up my ALLURE HOMME this summer. I may rebuy ALLURE HOMME, we will see. I did re-buy GENTLEMAN GIVENCHY BOISÉE after using it as a work sent to clear out 🤦♂
I bought Profumo from Chemist Warehouse 2 - 3 years ago. It now just sits in my draw because it is just too weak. I either got a bad bottle or it was watered down through reformulation. Such a disappointment. It seems that no Fragrance company is going to allow you to have a signature fragrance or a fragrance you like for too long because they will reformulate it and create another fragrance which they will then reformulate.
It's definitely been ruined by reformulation. I agree, it's absolutely ridiculous how many amazing scents get ruined or completely scrapped within 2-3 years.
Might wanna take up your concerns with IFRA. Their banning and limiting use of various aroma chemicals in favour of their own chemicals is what forces reformulations and discontinuations just as much if not more than companies trying to cut costs.
@@dantheman2907 It's definitely the IFRA, but companies are cutting costs too. Their bottles are becoming cheap as sh*t too (not that I care too much about the bottles).
Great video, I think creed aventus is way too expensive for what it is, doesn’t last long anymore and I find the smell unpleasant. I would go for the other two aventus, silver mountain water, or Viking but honestly the price isn’t worth it for those because of the longevity.
My colleague years ago wore one, all the women loved it but it hacked at me, real aggressive smell and I wanted to learn what it was for years - found out recently it was Aventus. Been a long time since internet hype got me, I was close to blind-buying it what an idiot!
Yeah I have to disagree with Aventus. I get "you smell so good" compliments every single I wear it. And I like it as well. I wore Naxos to an event and received the same reaction. Sometimes things are hyped because they're good.
I agree that they're often hyped because they're good. But that doesn't guarantee *you* will like it, which is the main point. It might be good, I might be popular, but that doesn't automatically guarantee it will work for/suit you.
i have costa azzura :) quite fine but reminds me lot cheaper givenchy blue label that i wore back in 2017 - that seaweed accord is something that i have an issue - gave it to my girl and she likes it bettter than me :)
Because they're both masculine, fresh and smoky fragrances. I'm not saying they smell similar, they just share characteristics and work in similar settings.

Substance content! So many people spend so
Much money to buy fragrances just to feel good about the buy. That’s impulse buying which leads to loss of investment and loss of self.
@@BlessedDelight1 very true
If you’re new to buying fragrance or the fragrance community lesson #1 should always be to wear before you buy. Order a small sample(if possible) or go somewhere local that sells fragrance and spray it on and see how you like it after that. Sometimes I’ll go 2 or 3 times to make sure i actually love the fragrance and not just the idea of the fragrance because that can definitely happen.
That's such solid advice. I agree completely.
I do the same. Did it with side effect, sedley and oajan. Bought small samples wore a few times then thought 'not what I want for the price'
@@badatsmash7974 great advice.
There’s so many fragrances that get hype that I didn’t even like.
Some I didn’t like grew on me in a big way.
Unfortunately it’s difficult to try clone fragrances
Exactly. And dont just make ur decision based on its smell on the paper strip. Use it on ur clothes, skin until you decide
@AAR14616 this is true
I agree completely. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
@ōyissss Great analogy!
I’m wearing MYSLF Parfum right now. I like it a lot. It just smells scrumptious.
After 5 years in this hobby. My one piece of advice is : sample sample sample.
That's the smartest advice. A lot of people (myself included) get too caught up in the hype and let our judgement get clouded
@@horiaatanasiu3173where do you recommend buying samples from? I usually use microperfumes
I have noticed that perfumes I love the most have been dislikes or at least weird at first. "Love at first sniffs" have been those I get bored much faster.
That's an interesting observation
I really appreciate the open conversation-style content. This is what RUclips has been missing. Keep up the great work with these fragrance videos-- I'm sure your channel will gain lots of attraction very soon at this rate.
Thank you for the support :)
You are right. You don't HAVE TO HAVE anything. You just test them out and go for the one you like the most.
Exactly!
I watched your video on fragrance addiction, and the next day I put 12 of my perfumes up for sale. I have felt for a long time that I have too many perfumes to ever finish, and so I decided to cut it in half. Cheers
Thanks for letting me know - glad it resonated with you. Here's to a collection that you LOVE 💪🏼
Really enjoying the content as Im currently downsizing/simplifying my collection
I'm glad to hear it. Thanks for staying tuned.
Fantastic content as always bud, you are my daily dose of "Think, before you buy!"... Was just about to pull the trigger on a perfume that I "want", but it's not a "Need". The "Want" was influenced by the hype train rather than a personal love for the perfume.
Thank you again!
Glad you remembered! Thanks for letting me know it resonates with you.
Love this fresh honest simple to the point style of content. Keep them coming mate 👍

Our skin chemistry, personal tastes & lifestyles are all so different aren’t they?
Thank you for sharing your journey! I appreciate your vulnerability and honesty.
Perfectly said. Thanks for this comment. It sounds like you've found what works for you.
Well said!
Thanks for watching! That's a valid response. It's nice, but not $300+ nice.
Thanks for your thoughts :)
Another fragrance that you shouldn't fall for the hype. God of fire.
1000000%
It’s a beautiful scent but very situational and best for summer. If you live in a colder climate, yeah doesn’t make sense!
Absolutely agreed. Great advice for new people getting into this hobby.
Beware, keep buying fragrances is a very expensive temptation and can quickly get out of control.
Very true. Thanks for watching.
Aventus was a good frag upon release and I had been a long term Creed fan for many years prior.
For me, it felt like most guys either wore no fragrance or if they did, 75% were wearing Aventus clones. It was everywhere.
I personally had no interest in smelling like someone ex (heard that on a few occasions)
I much prefer something that nobody else is really wearing (or has even heard of) and so niche frags fit the bill for me and I have some fantastic ones.
I feel that. FOMO is huge in the industry and fragrance houses (and influencers) know it.
Totally get that mate. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Amazing content-- short and sweet, to the point. If possible, could you do a 'If I were to restart my fragrance collection, I would pick THESE fragrances' style of video... your perspectives are very much appreciated!
Thanks for the suggestion! Great idea.
You have earned my respect here...
I was looking for a replacement for Eau Savauge (not to be confused with Sauvage) and chose Costa Azzurra, precisely because it represents my taste better than teh ver popular Aventus.
Thank you. Eau Sauvage is great, I just wish it were stronger.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I agree, the rise of unisex fragrances is generally a good thing.
This speaks to me why I don't get any hype with the new Dior Homme Parfum, I just enjoy Dior Homme Intense more.
That's the right mindset - if you love Dior Homme Intense, stick with it and enjoy it!
I thought people don’t like the new Dior home parfum

Very nicely done. Refreshing and professional.
Glad you liked it!
Cologne prices are marked up so high. Never feel shame for going into the department store and trying on the fragrances. They receive tester bottles, you’re not stealing. Try on, walk out, and experience the fragrance.
Very true
Sometimes it's just a like, and not a love. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Ongoing great, honest and real content.💜
I have fallen for the trap of buying stuff because it hyped online.
Maybe it is because it is January and I've just had an expensive couple of months but I have noticed I am checking in with myself much more since seeing your first video on fragrance addiction and asking, do I really want this fragrance? Is there something else in my collection that serves the same purpose? Cueing myself to wait to smell fragrances on myself instead of shooting from the hip with purchasing online and thinking a lot more about replacing the ones in my collection that aren't loves with ones that are instead of just adding adding adding.
Thanks again for your thought provoking and reflective commentary.👌
So glad to hear that the addiction video hit home. Glad you're checking in with yourself
maybe you could make a video on fragrance anecdotes, like going through your collection and remembering a time you wore them. Justin Copeland has a funny one on fragrance horror stories
That's not a bad idea. Worth considering!
Hello! Everything you say is so true, I have blindly bought around 50 perfumes, and around 10 of them I think are good, don't be fooled by the hype. 🙂``sample first``
Definitely sample first!
You must have excellent taste then brother 💪🏼
@ You can buy all the things with money… but good taste is priceless!
@Blakevitani Yessir!
Thanks for the suggestions - these are certainly important topics and worth speaking about. I'll see what I can do!
I have access to over 100 different fragrances and I wear something different most days and Aventus Cologne is the only one I get compliments on. It may be basic and over saturated but while I wear what I think smells good I can't help the dopamine hit when someone validates my taste in cologne.
Aventus Cologne is superior to the OG. Great taste.
Im still suprised that people buy fragrances based on hype without smelling the fragrance. That you can sell people mediocre fragrances for a premium price.
Herd mentality. People generally want to fit in.
Glad I'm not the only one. You're correct, it's not all it's cracked up to be.
Very well said !!!! There are many better performing Aventus like Fragrances. And Acqua Di Gio was just plain water !!!!!!
Agreed!
one thing missing on fragrances influenceres is the deeper analysis of the person wearing the perfume...they talk a lot about the scent, the performance etc. but the target is very important and it takes time and tries to fully evaluate yourself..for instance: I grew up in a place similar to the french Provence...sort of a continental, mediterrean clima...full of cypress trees, lemons, figues, aromatic herbs....for me costa azzura is a classy, refined piece of heaven...for other people it has a certain lemony sharp edge, sometimes also associated with an urine smell.
Can’t speak to re-formulations (my bottle is from 2020) brother my bottle is as advertised.*
Beautiful DNA is retained smoky dark nuances with slight earthy spice. And d@mn good longevity.
Having said that, bottles are now scarce I wouldn’t pay $250 for it like you see ppl selling for on Mercari but $150 for a 4.2oz with the magnetic cap that’s kinda around what I think it makes sense to cost.
Sheesh, that's rough. It's still only about $120 in Australia ($74 USD) at discounters.
Just a reminder - if you have the smallest amount left in you bottle, use it sooner rather than later because it will go bad faster. I had that happen to me twice already 😂
Haha I usually don't use the last few ml. I keep them stored safely to enjoy from the bottle
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Honestly Aventus is one of those fragrances that I will only buy clones of. It smells great but I had a decant of it and one of the more popular clones out there lasted 4 times longer than it.
I get that natural ingredients don't last as long, hence the performance issues, but damn, it's gone after 30 minutes for me.
I love Creed Aventus. Know it since 2013. Performance decreased unfortunately but still a good scent.
Try Parfums Vintage Emperor Extrait as a good substitut.
Thanks for the suggestion :)
That's perfectly reasonable! Agree on Sauvage but particularly love Spicebomb EDT
Okay but buying retail in 2025 is the buyers fault anyway
True
With the amount of scams and fakes out there, some people would rather pay retail than get screwed over.
@@brockgervan5447 I’m not saying I’d buy retail but it’s still like $400+ on discounters for something that isn’t worth that imo. It’s overrated.
ADG Profumo got reformulated? i got mine in like 2018 and im almost out. Now i have to watch out when i go to repurchase!
Yep! Even the bottle is lower quality now. Cheap, slightly see-through and a cheap plastic, non-magnetic cap.
I collect based on memories myself, and the blind buys I do that I don't like, my younger brother, father or stepfather end up receiving, p much everyone benefits in my case haha
I've also limited myself to under 100 bottles, but since I do give away or empty them over the years I never reach that limit (I'm currently at 67 fragrances and i use every single one, except for maybe the discontinued ones that smell special to me)
Interesting!
Great ideas and advice
Thanks!
Only one smell has made me buy it. Argos triumph de bacchus. Love it.
Haven't tried this one but heard good stuff about it.
My advice:
1. Don’t listen to Fragrantica reviews. Only use it for note breakdown.
2. After looking at note breakdown, SAMPLE IT. Spray it on skin and on clothes.
3. Only buy what you love. It’s hard to quantify this, but you know it when you smell it.
Very true. Good advice
Completely agree with you. It's such a shame that Erwin, etc. destroyed the brand by selling it off.
I'm sorry but your reply and the original comment shows you both don't really understand anything about Creed. @@hey.alexedwards

Aventus 350 ?! In Paris it cost 170 😳
Different currencies, and export tax I guess?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! In your country, do they have them in store for you to spray?
@@hey.alexedwardsyou’re welcome, yes they do we can try them but if you want samples you need to buy a fragrance and then they put some samples in the bag but most of the time it is from the same house Dior 😅sauvage. How is omit in your country can you ask a sample of a fragrance you would try?
@quicksilver3432 Generally we can't just ask for samples, but we can spray on our skin and let it dry down. I'd recommend doing this a couple of times to be sure you love something.
Which one last longer? Profumo or EDP?
EDP as of current formulations, but that shouldn't matter. What matters is whichever you prefer most.
I just get dupes nowadays if im blind buying something. Theres always something for the budget. Its one thing to spend 20 to 30$ on a dupe blind buy and another thing to spend 150$ on something you may or may not like
Fair enough!
Totally get that. The 2016 batches were amazing.
I unfortunately fell into the hype of Creed Aventus in 2010... blind bought it, smelled, thought it was OK but not what it was hyped up to be. Just your average smelling men's fragrance
I agree
If a fragrance is hyped or sounds like something you'd like; sample first.
Exactly
I love profondo I don’t wear it much but it’s really nice

@hey.alexedwards I myself have been influenced by influencers for years. Meanwhile about 70 fragrances. Hardly wear them all. And always have to decide which one to wear when and where.
That makes me unhappy. Therefore I am happy to see people here who seem to have made the same experience.
@Jay-wq4qr For sure - that's something I'm hearing more and more. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Smart :)
Love your videos and insights. We think very similar to one another
Thank you
I own both the aventus and costa..and I think you are mistaken to see that they are interchangeable.
That's fair!
While I do own a few high end fragrances based off of reviews, I do have two that I genuinely can’t get enough of and smell the atomizer every day and they are Bond no9 Cooper square and Creed Erolfa
Also Aventus cologne is better than aventus and it is my go to along with Bond no9 bleeker street
Erolfa is awesome! You have great taste
Hahaha it was phenomenal. Not sure about the rest, but I get the point.
This winter I’ve been wearing BDC Parfum HEAVY! It’s simple basic and clean. I love it. I don’t like those booze, leather, tobacco fragrances.
BDC parfum will always be a banger
What watch is that you’re wearing?
Omega Geneve circe 1960s
Your content is so refreshing ! Looking forward to more of your videos.
Any further comments I can offer puts me in the "Debbie Downer" category.
Thank you for this!
Hi,
From Sydney
Have about 50 bottles and use about 5 a year I guess.
I did re-buy GENTLEMAN GIVENCHY BOISÉE after using it as a work sent to clear out 🤦♂
You have great taste. I use H24 as well, but absolutely love it. The dry down isn't super exciting but it makes me feel clean.
Always sample before purchasing.
Always
I love Aventus, but it’s not essential. You can find it way cheaper on some discounter websites.
100%
“I won’t be buying Creed Aventus again”. Goes and buys Aventus Cologne. Welcome to the resistance.
Hahah no more Aventus at all. Even cologne.
I completely agree
When i first saw the price i never bought it only clones
Fair enough! It's very expensive and at the end of the day, fragrances are luxury items. We don't really need them.
My colleague years ago wore one, all the women loved it but it hacked at me, real aggressive smell and I wanted to learn what it was for years - found out recently it was Aventus. Been a long time since internet hype got me, I was close to blind-buying it what an idiot!
It's certainly not for everyone. All personal preference!
That's interesting! Do you like it on your girl?
@ she likes freshies , it fits her better
@@miles-178 Makes total sense
OG DHP. The GOAT. 'Nuff said.
If you can find an OG bottle, you're lucky!
If something isn't cloned, it's likely either very bad or very good, and nobody can or will want to nail it down.
I agree.
Aventus was a massive letdown when I finally got to try it.
I prefer Cedrat Boise especially for the price point
100000% Cedrat Boise is awesome
@ true- I really didn’t like it at first but I grew on me in a big way.
Live in QLD so I don’t buy a big amount of of cold weather fragrances
How can you even compare Aventus to Costa Azzura?
Because they're both masculine, fresh and smoky fragrances. I'm not saying they smell similar, they just share characteristics and work in similar settings.
