Rob, you're awesome, but in this one I think an updated version is needed that clarifies some things:
    1. Moira is a mutant with the power to reincarnate on herself and relive her life once again, kinda like Groundhog day.
    2. Basically every "life" she has is an alternate timeline, which is rewritten every time she lives again. Which means that all of Marvel comics history as we know it has happened during Moiras 10th life.
    3. She's currently living her 10th life, although Destiny said she might live an 11th. If she lived an 11th life, that would mean that the current Marvel history would become an obsolete timeline.
    4. The most interesting thing is how one of her lives is missing, both from the graph and from the explanation.
    5. The second most interesting thing (for me) is how her lifetime allied with Apocalypse extends itself beyond the chart, meaning it was her longest lived life.
I will catch you all later. Peace!

Correction: A little surprised this confused you, Rob. It distinctly says that Moira relives her life Groundhog Day style rather than being reborn as a different person. Otherwise, it would be impossible for her to have had multiple lives where she meets Xavier before he forms the X-Men. But I do agree that they messed up her art to make it somewhat hazy.
I do love how they brought back Destiny for this issue. It was such fun to see her.
I've not seen anyone mention the fact that Pyro calls Destiny "mother" when he's told to burn Moira. Think this is a legit biological link or something else?
Also, Magneto's base? It's the volcano octopus base from Claremont's era when Scott was with Lee Forrester!
As an X-Man fan who has been reading and following their stories since the 80s, I can honestly say this was such an amazing read. I couldn't believe the way this fundamentally changed everything about my beloved characters and I loved it.

Thank you for mentioning Groundhog Day, because I feel like narratively this is a total waste of what should be a completely broken mutant power. They could have made Moira the most lowkey OP background character just by giving her a few more lifetimes to become a martial arts grandmaster, or Sorceror Supreme, or super-rich through knowledge of key market shifts, or ALL OF THE ABOVE and more that didn't immediately come to my mind.
I guess it makes sense that they limited her number of reincarnations in the story (not a hard limit, just what Destiny foresaw) because letting her run a little wild with this ability could quickly spiral into breaking a lot of stuff.

I loved this comic! But from how I saw it it's Groundhog day rules. When she dies she wakes up (or is reborn) in the same year, same parents, same place. She just makes different choices based on her knowledge of her past lives. But if you see when she first sees Charles at the bar she's the same person every time. She just looks different sometimes when she first meets Charles because she's meets him at different times in her life.

Bro she doesn't die in the apocalypse one cause if you read the pages with the long lines showing her actions in each life, it shows a dot at the end of the ones she died in and a bunch of arrows for the ones she's still alive in, like the current timeline and apocalypse timeline

"Apocalypse ends up falling, ends up dying" the timelines at the back of the book clearly show that his war continues on so there's no reason to assume he died but Moira clearly did. Also the timelines show that House of X is in the 10th timeline not the 11th. Speaking of which, you didn't mention the missing 6th timeline at all.

You did get a few things wrong, Rob, but the one I haven't seen anyone mention is the fact that in Moira's 9th life (AoA) Apocalypse didn't fall but, most importantly, neither did Moira. This is further bolstered by the timeline graphic at the end that shows every timeline ending with Moira's death except for the AoA and current timelines which continue on alongside each other.
Another thing you failed to mention is how insanely badass Pepe Larraz's Apocalypse looks.

  • @LunaticReason
    @LunaticReason 5 лет назад

Here are a few interesting things to consider. 1. Her son Proteus' powers are reality warping and body possession. 2. Destiny died at the hands of Legion on Muir Island and interpreted cryptic messages of hers to kill Magneto but accidentally kills his father thus setting off the reality of Age of Apocalypse. 3. Two Trasks are not mentioned in her assassinations Larry and Tanya. Two mutants with the abilities of Precognition and Time Travel respectively. 4. In the AoA she was married to Bolivar Trask 5. Destiny's grandson Trevor Chase is also reality warper. 6. A resurrected Destiny made Telepathic contact with her distant relative Bliindfold who was possessed by Proteus.
Idk I think the missing timeline is just the AoA because it was essentially undone and was a result of someone else changing the reality and if I am correct the first time we witnessed an alternate reality in regards to the X-men.

Technically John didn't really change anything , he basically Used Moira to combine every single alternate universe , and previous canon X-Men storylines. This is pure genius , it is like as if you said Aunt May could remember each alternate timeline and discovers Peter Parker acts better if her husband dies and she pretends not to know his identity. Knowingly making those sacrifices and allowing time to take it's course with slightly small adjustments like dating Dr Octopus.

I love how many times you say 11, when there's such a huge importance in the story and themes to the number 10, thus X. Powers of 10, each era being shown as a power of 10, etc. She is even called Moira X, meaning the 10th life, the 10th version of her, the 10th reincarnation, the 10th .... you get it. Like so many have already said, RE-READ the comic, please.

Hey, Rob. Love your channel. Always come here after reading to get your thoughts. I'm sort of confused by some of what Hickman has presented so far, but I figured he's setting up some mystery behind the events and hasn't completely pulled back the curtain just yet. For example, if you look at the time lines at the end of the issue, they are all lined up perfectly from the day she is born and my guess this was done purposely to show that not only is each life of hers a reincarnation, but it is the same Moira with the same family and the same everything (which she discusses in the first few pages when she talks about life 2 and how she is not simply an observer and how she can't fall in love with the same person and live out the same events of her first life). Additionally, that scene of her at the bar and Charles being sort of in the background gets repeated as if she had been there before, which leads me to believe that she is in fact the same Moira and not reincarnating into a different body everytime, otherwise, Charles would eventually get old and she eventually would never meet him.
I really do think this is a Groundhog Day, Happy Death Day, Edge of Tomorrow type of situation except when she dies, she wakes up back in her mother's womb. But I dont know for sure, you might be right.
Also, if you look at the timeline, her 6th life is missing. I was thinking was this a typo? And she in fact does skip over that during the course of the issue. She talks about her 5th life and then skips over to her 7th. Additionally, I dont think life 3 is the life that we are all familiar with from the events of the X-Men history since life 10 seems to most accurately cover that life by including the birth of Proteus and her marriage to Joseph McTaggart. But I'm confused by that timeline because didnt she die because of the legacy virus or am I missing something? Was she revived? But how does that work now for someone that can be reincarnated? Also, life 9 with Apocalypse seemingly continues off into infinity??? I guess we just have to wait and see...

    Some corrections:
    1) She relives her life from her inception, after every death. Think groundhog day. Otherwise, she couldn't keep meeting Xavier and Magneto.
    2) She created the cure in her 3rd life, and loved Xavier in her 4th life.
    3) She's currently in her 10th life, not her 11th.

A friend of mine recently put me onto this channel, and all the videos I've seen have been amazing. Until this one. I'm not sure what happened here, but a lot of facts were misinterpreted during the events in this video. Moira literally relives the same life each time, she isn't a "new person" and she doesn't look different. She just has the experience of the previous lives to make changes in the new one. Also, she wasn't born "100 years" in the past. She's around Xavier's age, clearly. And then at the end you mention that she's on her 11th life. The diagram at the end of the comic clearly states that it's her tenth life that we are seeing in which she reveals everything to Xavier.

Rob, thanks for uploading your video today. I had been waiting since reading the issue to see it.
2 important things. Moira lives the same life over and over (parents, timing, appearance) she just has all the knowledge of previous lives. This is indeed her 10th life. Destiny evens says “if she makes the right choice in the end she might get an 11th.”
P.S. Life 6 is completely missing from the timeline.

  • @Bmystyle
    @Bmystyle 5 лет назад +1

You got the reincarnation wrong my dude. Also destiny flat out told her at some point she will stop reincarnating and if she didn't, the future will always be in flux as Moira is essentially in a time loop where she remembers each previous life and can alter the future a different way each time.

We all read what Destiny told Moria, "I see ten lives, Moria. Maybe eleven if you make the right choice at the end...but that is all." Everyone is assuming that Moria only has 10 to 11 lives. Who says Destiny is correct? There is nothing to conclude that Moria will not continue living the same life for all eternity. Also, we know that the further out Destiny looks at the future the more likely she is to be wrong because there are too many variables that could occur. However, Destiny did give a clue how it all could end and that's if Moria died before her powers manifest.

Taggart is the absolute definition why humanity is justified in their fear of mutants - she, on her own, has decided that she can dictate the world's path no matter who dies along the way. Its not the fear that little timmy or jane is going to kill everyone around them, its that someone who has powers will just decide one day " I don't feel like you matter any more, good bye"

This is super super super confusing if she's got her own personal time loop of ten lives if you consider those loops in the context of all the time travel in Marvel comics. Which part of her loop appears in each time travel event? The time travel events that resolve themselves aren't a big issue (Age of Apocalypse) but the major retcons on things like Secret Wars raises some interesting questions.
