Love Curtis Mayfield. He was amazing. I'd be first in the queue if they released his last album 'New World Order' on vinyl. If you haven't heard that one, it's well worth grabbing a CD copy before it disappears for good. And you definitely can't go wrong with The Isleys. Wonderful stuff. My soul tag coming tomorrow....probably.
Hi David, I don't know that album, but I've just been reading about Curtis' accident and how he recorded the album. Man, he had it tough in his last years. I'll check out your Soul Tag tonight. I really enjoyed doing it. I love soul, but don't buy or listen to it so much anymore. Always enjoy it when I do. Cheers for watching and commenting!
Hey Jack! Great pick here. I always appreciate some needle drops. I’ve never seen that Swamp Dogg album before - Pimpin’ on an albino rat - that’s something else right there! Plan B is new to me as well, sounds cool. I went with Black Pumas as well. What an outstanding album. I still haven’t pick up Chronicles of a Diamond but I’ve streamed it lots. It isn’t as strong as the debut but still good stuff. Lots of these need to be on my want list. Thanks for sharing and remember, Wu-tang is for the children! 😉✌️
😂 You’re the second person to make that Wu Tang reference, which I didn’t get to be honest. Had to google 😂 So much great soul stuff out there to discover. Looking forward to watching your tag tonight! Cheers, Jack
I watched on my TV last night, very nice selections. I enjoyed it and will sub. The nice thing about the tags is that they introduce us to channels we were unaware of. I did one of these in 2024 and will see if I can come up with something for the new year. Take care, Elliott
Many thanks Elliott! Looking forward to seeing your tag if you do one. Like you say, they are a lot of fun and great for discovering new channels and new music. Cheers pal, Jack
Well done, Jack! I can respond to a good amount of the questions in this tag, and may give it a go. Big fan of Curtis Mayfield as well, and have a bunch of his early 70's solo output. Bonus: new channel to check out as well. 😎🎶
Hi Ed, cheers for watching pal! It was an accessible tag to do. I don't have a massive soul collection, so it had to be for me. I've loads on CD though. Who's channel was new to you? Looking forward to watching what you pull if you decide to do it! Cheers, Jack
Nice one Jack - excellent choices and great presentation. You had one of of my absolute LP favourites by Curtis - but I would have chosen "Get Down" - so soulful/funky!!!! Keep up the great work and have a fantastic New Year. Will hopefully start doing something in the VC in 2025 - tinkering with equipment and just have to take the leap & do the first post......All the best, Nick (Tintin)
Hey Nick, I was initially going to show the Curtis album for the first question: Show A Party Record. I would have chosen Get Down... those drums at the beginning are amazing. Like you say, so funky!!! The Vinyl Tag is the perfect opportunity to get started. When I did my first one last year, all I really had equipment wise was my mobile phone. That's still all I really use along with a cheap ring light. I edit using the free Capcut software on my phone. Nothing fancy. Tag me in your video if you decide to have a go. It's been a lot of fun this year, but after the first one it definitely sucks you in. Thanks for watching and have a great New Year too!!! Jack
Excellent choices I Love the Wu-Tang shirt! Live at the Apollo is my favorite live album of all times. So much energy from the crowd. Stevie Wonder produced some of the greatest soul music of the 1970s! Fantastic
Many thanks, Mark! I picked-up that Wu Tang shirt when they played Glasgow with Nas last year. Great gig. That run of albums Stevie Wonder had in the 70s was unreal... must have been the most musically creative guy on the planet at that time! Cheers for watching and commenting, Jack
Hey Jack. Great video! Nice call with the Barbara Mason. Swamp Dogg is killer. James Brown! Curtis!!! Black Pumas is a great pick. Their 2nd album is great as well. I'm going to try and maybe jump on this tag. So many tags right now. I just did the CD Tag 2025 and two threads, the Winter Thread, and the Recap 2024 thread. Cheers & Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too, Bobby! Loving that Swamp Dogg album, I'm keen to get his debut next. I'll need to stream the new Black Pumas too. I think I'm all tagged out now... too many tags, it's crazy. The Recap tag sounds good though and I might do a video like that next. For me, I'm going to spend a bit of time just watching other people's tags now and enjoy my records! Cheers, Jack
Hey Jack! Nice picks. From a distance, and if I squint a bit, Swamp Dogg looks like a cockney Pearly King. I've always loved that cover. That Plan B tune sounded great. You really cant go wrong with the Isley Brothers' This Old Heart Of Mine. A stone cold classic. Good stuff. Cheers - Hedley
It’s funny you should mention that, Hedley. If you’re able to pick up Swamp Dogg’s deluxe boxset for Rat On, there’s fantastic covers of Lambeth Walk, Any Old Iron and a gut bustin’ rendition of Roll Out The Barrel! 🎹 🍻 🎵 cheers for watching pal!
Hi Philip, I think when it comes to collecting LPs then rock definitely rules the roost. Maybe, more soul collectors buy 45s than LPs. Soul LPs usually seem to be cheap to buy, which probably doesn't help their collectability, even though the music is great. I buy to listen to, so not majorly bothered about it from a collectors point of view. Love picking up a cheap soul album! Cheers, Jack
Whenever I think of Millie Jackson, I can get the Back to the S**t! album cover out of my head 😆 I've never properly listened to her, so many thanks for the recommendation, Lawrence. I'll check out the Caught Up album. Many thanks, Jack
I picked up Roots by Curtis Mayfield this year. It may be the last one I need. I need to give James Brown Live At The Apollo another listen. I didn’t care for the early James Brown sound. I was more into the Funky stuff.
Hey Richie, I've got a great comp that hoovers up all JB's funkiest stuff and you're right, that period is probably his best. If you go a few too many years to the right though, you get to Check Out Those Cakes, where he goes from too funky to too sleazy. Cheers for watching, Jack

Excellent selections! Love the Wutang shirt..... Wutang for the kids!! That Curtis Mayfield album is classic!
Can’t beat the Clan!

@@TheVinylVoyage-ud3uf New channel was the Six Inch Pianist, the one who started this tag. Great channel name, as you said!

Soul is a genre totally overlooked in favour of rock and prog when it comes to collecting vinyl

Jack, you need Millie Jackson in your life, especially the Caught Up album, but I would add Still Caught Up and Feelin' Bitchy.
Whenever I think of Millie Jackson, I can get the Back to the S**t! album cover out of my head 😆 I've never properly listened to her, so many thanks for the recommendation, Lawrence. I'll check out the Caught Up album. Many thanks, Jack

@ I agree. There is a sweet spot with James Brown.
Used to have the Curtis mayfield album complete with calendar
It's a beauty! Cheers for watching Philip!
I'll go on any vinyl voyage that idiot norman maslof is not on
All welcome on the Vinyl Voyage! Cheer for watching, Jack
