A Beautiful song that takes me back to a time when life seemed much simpler Bob has always been my favourite singer I love all his songs but sometimes find it so painful to listen to the words they are so lovely they make me cry. Such an underatted singer and songwriter.
It is sad how Bob Lind never had a hit with this song and that his only big hit was Elusive Butterfly, he deserved to have more hits. A very talented singer and songwriter.
Corrected lyrics: Cool Summer (Bob Lind) Somewhere up there In the high mountain air Is the girl that I would have married But the summer was too long And the ocean was too wide And the burden too heavy to be carried In the fall when things were new We’d walk to town and wander through And her words set my restless mind to dreamin’ When her soft warm caress Made the hours stop and rest I wondered if it was what it was seemin’ But the summer was too long And the ocean was too wide And our dreams too heavy to be carried In those quiet Autumn days Sitting in some small café Our words they were said to each other Yes and when, late afternoon Cast its shadows across the room We’d walk back down the road together In the winter of the year Through the snow you would appear And we’d lay around and laugh and times were easy But our words were deaf and blind To the coming summertime Even though we knew inside it was a comin’ And in the spring when it was warm I would hold your suntanned arm And we’d walk across the grass just feelin’ lazy But our nights had just begun To be worried restless ones As the thoughts of the summer waited heavy When you’re young your life can seem Like an endless happy dream But your choices aren’t always yours for making So I sailed across the mist With a promise and a kiss And I saw her face in every wave that’s breaking And the summer was too long And the ocean was too wide And the burden too heavy to be carried Well I’ve seen her lots of times Since that summer on the Rhine And I know that what we used to have is over But somehow I can’t be sad Thinking about the times we had It was love and I’ll remember it forever And somewhere up there In the high mountain air Is the girl that I would have married Bu the summer was too long And the ocean was too wide And the burden too heavy to be carried
It's a gorgeous song! You can tell it's a demo, as it is imperfect...the guitars and vocals play catch-up with each other at some points...but effect of the song is still there. Classic Bob Lind. He still records today and thankfully his style has changed very little since then.
and, of course, goldboro"s "HONEY" HEARING, LIND'S ILLUSIVEB.F, I CHECK OUT HIS OTHERS AM GOLD, AND DISCOVERED THIS, GEM~ ARE THOSE, MY BABY SITTERS, OR WHAT ? HA HAHA~"D"~
there was a time when i could not bear the explicitness of his words - the sea was too wide, and the burden too heavy to be carried - in times of real and merciless heartbreak, it does not take much to trigger a wave washing you away. glad those times are over. bob still here, comforting me.
I have since heard that Bob recorded this song, along with all the demos that ended up on The Elusive Bob Lind album, a long time before he recorded Elusive Butterfly and Cheryl's Goin' Home. He said in an intervew he was 17 (which would be 1960), but as The Times They Are A-Changin' was one of the demos, it must have been about 1963-64
Corrected lyrics, but some part is still a little bit oscure. Somewhere up there In the high mountain air There's the girl that I Would have married But the summer was too long And the ocean was to wide And the burden too heavy To be carried In the fall when things were new We walked town and wandered through And a word set my restless mind to dreaming When her soft warm caress Made the hours stop and rest, I wonder if it was what it was seeming. But the summer was too long And the ocean was to wide And our dreams too heavy To be carried In those quiet Autumn days Sitting in some small cafe Our worths they were set To each other Yes the wind played at the noon And cast a shadow across the room We walked back down the road together In the winter of that year Through the snow you would appeared And we laid around and laughed when times were easy But our words were deaf and blind To the coming summertime Even though we knew inside It was coming In the spring when it was warm I would hold your [suntanned arm?] And we walked across the grass Just feeeling lazy But our nights had just begun To be worried and restless ones And the thoughts of the summer were heavy When you're young Your life may seems Like and an endless happy dream But your choices are always yours to make. So I sail across the mist With a promise and a kiss And I saw her face in every wave That's breaking And the summer was to long And the ocean was too wide And the burden too heavy To be carried Well, I seen her a lot of times Since that summer arrived And I know that what we used to have Is over But somehow I can't be sad Thinking about the times we had It was love and I'll remember it Forever And somewhere up there In the high mountain air Is the girl That I would have married And the summer was to long And the ocean was too wide And the burden too heavy To be carried

I bought the album the first week it was released. Already had the two World Pacific albums. Wasn't disappointed at all even though they were all songs recorded before "Elusive Butterfly." Has excellent versions of "Fennario" and "Times They Are a Changin'" Used to be found all over the place in used records bin, bet you can find if you try!
This album was never released on CD it was put together after Bob had success with elusive butterfly the strings were added.... it was really just a demo he made in Denver that was embellished by the record label in an attempt to cash in on his fame...you have to buy the record used
Many of the songs in this album are haunting. Although if you listen to this song you could tell the arrangement is all over the place. Nothing is consistent with the measures. That makes sense when you consider that these were made from demos. I also believe that Bob head talked about being under the influence a lot of times while recording. That being said, I have a sealed copy of this album that I hope to transfer to digital at some point.
Brad Pauler i looked up some of their songs, they're kind of cool but not that great. they had good voices but their songs didn't have anything to set them apart
Come Back to Me and Bring Me back the Sun ❤❤❤
I listen to this song everytime i feel anxious and it helps.
When you’re young, your life it seems, like an endless happy dream...
A Beautiful song that takes me back to a time when life seemed much simpler Bob has always been my favourite singer I love all his songs but sometimes find it so painful to listen to the words they are so lovely they make me cry. Such an underatted singer and songwriter.
'..but somehow i can't be sad, thinking about the times we had, it was love and i remember it forever..'
Sept 1958 to July 1959 I lived these words with Carolyn. 60 years later I still am not over the pain.
It's a bitch
at least you had it
That’s a long time … And I’ve glimpsed eternity.
Heartbreaking, such a beautiful song, which brings back many memories for me when life was lovely.
You still have that life right? Cherish it
It is sad how Bob Lind never had a hit with this song and that his only big hit was Elusive Butterfly, he deserved to have more hits. A very talented singer and songwriter.
he did alright...i just read one of his novels
wouldnt have been so elusive though x
Corrected lyrics:
Cool Summer
(Bob Lind)
Somewhere up there
In the high mountain air
Is the girl that I would have married
But the summer was too long
And the ocean was too wide
And the burden too heavy to be carried
In the fall when things were new
We’d walk to town and wander through
And her words set my restless mind to dreamin’
When her soft warm caress
Made the hours stop and rest
I wondered if it was what it was seemin’
But the summer was too long
And the ocean was too wide
And our dreams too heavy to be carried
In those quiet Autumn days
Sitting in some small café
Our words they were said to each other
Yes and when, late afternoon
Cast its shadows across the room
We’d walk back down the road together
In the winter of the year
Through the snow you would appear
And we’d lay around and laugh and times were easy
But our words were deaf and blind
To the coming summertime
Even though we knew inside it was a comin’
And in the spring when it was warm
I would hold your suntanned arm
And we’d walk across the grass just feelin’ lazy
But our nights had just begun
To be worried restless ones
As the thoughts of the summer waited heavy
When you’re young your life can seem
Like an endless happy dream
But your choices aren’t always yours for making
So I sailed across the mist
With a promise and a kiss
And I saw her face in every wave that’s breaking
And the summer was too long
And the ocean was too wide
And the burden too heavy to be carried
Well I’ve seen her lots of times
Since that summer on the Rhine
And I know that what we used to have is over
But somehow I can’t be sad
Thinking about the times we had
It was love and I’ll remember it forever
And somewhere up there
In the high mountain air
Is the girl that I would have married
Bu the summer was too long
And the ocean was too wide
And the burden too heavy to be carried
🌻🌻Thanks for the corrected lyrics. Lind is just a great lyric songwriter.

🌻I agree you are so right. He is terrific lyric song writer.
So beauté
i visualize myself dancing with my(future)lover, on the hill, its just two of us, and a warm campfire, and some beers, and this song, loud.
When i want to cry I come back to this song

i always imagine rainy weather while listening to this song. It's so cozy as summer rain
A fabulous singer with only one hit, but at least he had one which is more than most singers have
Bob Lind wrote some beautiful songs. This is just one of them. What a great atmosphere on this.
Corrected lyrics, but some part is still a little bit oscure.

And the burden too heavy
To be carried
I would hold your sun tanned body I think he says
First heard this on The rinse XFM in 2006, couldn't find the song for years so thanks for putting it up.
Best cut from this excellent record....Bob Lind is a treasure.
This is so beautiful...
Great song! Although I've loved Elusive Butterfly since I was a kid, I'm starting to discover Bob Lind's other songs...love this one!

This may had been his written song besides Elusive Butterfly.

Can't find it to buy.
Does anybody knows the lyrics for the fourth verse? He says something like "Winster's stop" and "caress". Thanks!
Snaporaz100 i think it's "winter's soft warm caress, made the hours stop and rest, i wonder if it was, what it was seeming."
ClarkReviews Wow, thanks a lot! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! XD
