The 890 Duke R weighs 166Kg dry and 188kg ready to race , but yeah it has around the same power and also the same suspension , I don't get it , seems they made a competition for there own Duke 890R , I like de 890 head light better .
Awesome detailed presentation and excellent testing again, Rok. 🤘👌 That's what we want to see. I love your videos and I already love the new Sniper. Looks even better than the Scalpel. And excellent technical upgrades, too. Amazing that the 990 is even lighter than the 890 R. And it is cool that they offer the performance and track mode for the first 1500km to make the decision easier but I would take the full features anyway.😉 Keep on riding and creating, mate. Your channel truly rocks.🤘
Lighter ? The 890R does 169 dry, the 990 179 according to the specs I found. You have to search for them cause KTM always hides specs on the product page they don't want you to focus on.
@@wernerxldata Yes, I already searched other sites for it, but the 179 kg is not the dry weight of the 990, it is the ready to ride weight without the fuel. Fully fueled the 990 weighs about 190kg, wheras the 890 R weighs about 186kg fully fueled. Thus the 890R is indeed lighter. It was a bit misleading in the video. PS: Now I found the dry weight of the 990. Interestlingy it is indicated as 169kg, too, on the KTM dealer website.
I'm not sure how I'm feeling about the headlights, I own an 890R and I feel like my bike didn't lose any value the specs are practically the same so I'm struggling to see the point of the 990 engine. Maybe the R version will be more exciting, if not I'll hold off until they release an RC990
@@CobGeorge I still love my 890R, too, and it will never loose any value for me, even if there are better KTMs out there. 😉I would rather add a Super Duke to my collection than replace my 890 R with the 990. However, I am curious about a 990 R version, too. I think the headlights look cool, but it gets tedious to clear them of any attached insects in summer.
No more 890 duke, 790 duke stays! The sound of this 990 is awesome but I am skeptic about the reliability. After having two 790 dukes in 3 seasons and both leaked a lot of oil from everywhere I am not convinced in any duke anymore. Expensive repairs and lots of stress due oil leaks.
As with the 890 Duke and all manufacturers engines now days they Have to make it euro 346 compliant and the bikes are very lean and conservative from the factory…you have to get them tuned and breathed on and then they put out a lot more than advertised. They run so hot and lean with the exhausts and tune from factory, especially Below 4/5 thousand rpm’s. Its amazing what Rottweiler performance or a good tune can do for these bikes. The 990 will put out even more with a little help.
thanks for this. I have had two harleys now but want to change up what I am used to. I am debating a middle weight naked bike, is the 790 version a lot weaker than this?
Me too Those front brakes look puny compared to the 320mm Brembo discs/calipers on the original and We get fully adjustable WP suspension front and rear. Specs do look good on paper its lighter and makes more power. I like that it is lower too . . that's actually a huge + . . . but they should have pulled the weight from something other than the front brakes IMO. That's one thing that works on the old 990 better than any bike I've ever ridden.
It would be nice of you if you'll make a more detailed video on the characteristics, impressions on road, features, etc... of this new 990 (we could see you on shorts riding it on the road...). Since you have the privilege of having it concretely in preview (and the only one apparently)... Please😉!! However, nice video, thank you for sharing it!
Love the bike, best commercial it can have. But, what's up with the rearlights? how we mount oure short plate holder now. Please ktm(and bmw) just use a normal good looking rear light.
Can't wait to watch all the 790 vs 890 vs 990 vids and read forum opnions. Sadly, if this is an all new engine, we're gonna have to wait a few years (AGAIN!) to see if it's reliable. IMO, since they had the 690 single, I'm not really sure they needed the 790 at all. They could've started with the 890 or maybe even this 990 as a bridge between then 690 and the SuperDuke. I ALSO don't think they needed to make the SuperDuke bigger, but the 990 might have been to close to it while the 890 might've been still to close to the 690 to truly be a definitive jump up from it. IMO we really DO need something to be in the 800cc-1000cc twin class to come back. RC51 days were sick. Bikes weighed less than a 600, had the HP of a 750, and the torque of a 1000. That's where some of the best sport-oriented riding can be had, IMO. *EDIT:* Just did the math and the 690 is roughly 0.73 the displacement of the 990, and the 990 will have about 0.7 the 1390, so those are nice even jumps. But to make the jump DOWN to a smaller bike than the 690, we'd need a "490" to be perfectly even in terms of a displacement difference.
KTM doesn't start from scratch every time a new engine is developed, especially in the parallel twin class since the first release of the 790. Years and trials and corrections later, this 947cc engine isn't a clean sheet. It's new and specific, but KTM have learned a lot about parallels by this point. Seem I remember 490 rumors some years ago and KTM never went through with it. Maybe with the Aprilia RS457 coming out, the updated Kawasaki 451cc parallel engine (Ninja 500, Eliminator), KTM will get a burr under the saddle and release a 490.
all nice and neat.. but how much do they turn off after insert x amount of KMs? Edit, nm, won't even say which they turn off and which they don't... good, I hope my TCS/ABS aren't up on the chopping block. Can you tell I am bitter about this? I hope you can. Next thing they are going to install heated grips and charge a monthly premium to use them.
so if the duke 890 is no longer in production I'm screwed when it comes to parts since the the 890 LC8c is no more. only 790 and 990 continuing on for 2024. i wonder if my 890 blows up if ktm will just swap it with the 790 engine since they are basically the same?
i would say the 890R engine is closer to the 990engine (when it comes to CC and engine output, power ect.) ... hopefully KTM wont be assholes and then give us a 990 engine or even a 990bike rather than the good but not compareable 790 engine ... tho i prefer the 890R speaking of better brakes, suspension ect over the 990.
They should have upped the power for this one, and made it around like 140hp. Because I'm going for either a 790 or an 890R pretty soon, it looks better and is proven.
I had both, if you can afford it, pick the 890R. The suspension is way better and the brakes are awesome. 790 is not a bad bike in any way but the 890R is a big step forward.
@@wernerxldata thanks. What's the reliability like. I'm getting one soon, will be my first road bike, but I'm an experienced enduro rider who loves to ride, so it won't be like I'm clueless, debating whether I save some money and get a 790, or just go for a second hand 890R or 890GP
@@moreliquorinmycoffee First versions had some issues, I never experienced any on both the 790 and the 890.
