I have this tablet. It's amazing - I'm a Designer - Gamer - Reader - Surfer. This easily fits all my needs like a glove. Being able to watch a video on youtube while im sketching then jump to need for speed with no lagging is honestly a killer awe factor. People - 300 is nothing compared to the sheer amount of features this product has for those of you like me. Great review.
Yes this is very useful in a classroom setting, especially the multitasking. Hate to sound like a terrible student, but pulling up a web browser while taking notes has become one of the key reasons I love this thing.
The 2014 10.1 version includes the same S Note application though it has been updated. From what I understand, the changes are pretty positive, but I haven't tested it personally. Samsung has their own backup cloud system, but I usually sync with Dropbox via the Dropbox app. They are exported as PDFs, so you are free to resize as necessary.
Yes it's pricey, but depending on your uses, it's obviously marketed to a small niche. On the other hand, I thought I might mention that I bought another stylus for the Note 8.0 called the Samsung 8pi, it's a little longer and made writing even easier. I will do another demonstration video once I get a good feel for it.
This is true for all Android tablets (and the iPad and probably some other tablets), you can edit directly on Google Drive to manage your Excel files. You can also store Excel files locally and use Polaris Office (or another app) and just edit them locally and upload.
Actually this is for all android devices (or rather most). Most devices don't offer you the option to install onto another location unless rooted, your phone must be one of the few exceptions where it has been enabled. I do have a video up on how to root, and there's been a little discussion about Folder Mount and a few other one of these solutions.
Thanks! I just didn't think a lot of reviews did the spen justice. They sort of reviewed it as yet another android tablet, went over the benchmarks and ended with oh yea there's this spen thingy. Frankly I don't think half of those reviewers even bothered to try snote for more than a minute.
Yes Polaris works with MultiWindow and it will export to Office just fine. When I open a PDF in the browser, it asks if I want to open it with Adobe Reader, etc.
Thanks. The Note 10.1 has something called Cascade mode which lets you run as many apps as you like in windowed mode. This does not come natively with the Note 8.0 and is not available with MultiWindow, instead it is available with Mode Switcher, which of course requires root.
I've gotten through a few lectures now. There are several points lacking, I think some of the formatting options aren't great (indentation, bullets), but having space hasn't really been much of an issue. They recognize writing fast enough so that when I'm done, I just move back to the top. Granted, there are a few quirks with the backspace that I had to learn to maneuver around, but overall it's quite good. I've haven't thought about going back to a laptop yet.
I actually read very little manga, but I tested it out real quick, it's really quite good, everything is sharp and you most likely don't need to resize for any text. There's also a reading mode that will adjust the brightness.
Got a refurbished one for $270 on Amazon, works like a dream and came with a one year warranty in case something goes wrong in the future. Good bang for the buck if you ask me!
I have read a few textbooks, you don't need to zoom, but some of the text does get on a bit of the small side, but overall it's been quite good for pretty much everything. Just maybe a few of the diagrams I have to zoom in, actual text is fine. Annotations varies from app to app, I'm using EZ PDF Reader which is the best solution for annotation in my opinion. As for taking notes, I think I went over S Note already, still the best in my opinion. I may do another sort of review later on.
my only complaint is the location of the light sensor. Not sure why this annoys me so much though. Picked one of these up last week on ebay for under 120. Totally worth it. I use a note 3 as well and am looking at the note edge, if it gets a wider release than what i assume it'll be. Good review.
I have looked into the question a little further, turns out this option was removed from Android 4.0 onwards, so any newer device does not have this option anymore.
Quirks with the keyboard back space is kind of annoying but liveable, and Polaris is miles behind SNote for ease of use, but it is just so much faster for powerpoints that I use it instead. Switching was a bit cumbersome at first, but at this point I'm able to do it without even looking at the screen.
I'm actually not an econ major, I'm just taking a few econ courses because it's interesting. Anyways, I've been using this every 2 days in class solely for lectures (and non-school related stuff). I've been able to go to class without a laptop or paper for a month and a half now, but I did have to use a few different apps. SNote is still the best for regular note taking and PDF annotation, but I've started to use Polaris for powerpoints instead. There are a few quirks you have to get used to
What a great device! Though said as "not really perfect" on the handwriting recognition, there's none that I've seen other device that perform as better than this. However, the price is a bit expensive..
It's tough to say, at times I do wish for an extra inch or two, but I've played around with the 10.1 and would loathe to carry the extra weight. The Note 8 is also small enough to be held in one hand, whereas the 10.1 really isn't. It's a tradeoff, but I'd say 8 is a pretty good tradeoff given that it has the same resolution as the 10.1
The battery life is decent, I get roughly 4 hours with videos and games, and roughly 8 hours with regular net surfing and so on. It's not nearly as bad as everyone says, but still not great when compared to say the iPad Mini.
I need this for school I need a tablet for school bc we do tons of research and all that jazz and I really likee this one and it's the perfs size ik they have it in other sizes but I need it to fit in like my handbag
Thanks for the detail review. After watching this, I really want the Note 8. I plan to use the Note 8 (mainly) for reading textbooks (pdf) and taking notes. Is the screen big enough? Do you have to zoom in to be able to read the text? How about annotation? Please do a review about it.
I am also a student majoring in econ, I start my first year in the fall. I wanted to know if you use this daily for taking notes, doing power points, projects, planning your day and etc. How often do you use a regular computer or even take notes by hand on paper. I know some professors speak fast so is is easy to switch from writing to drawing graphs easily? Are there any flaws about this devise, anything I should know before buying?
Thanks, I had another question if you don't mind. I'm about to get one of these from AT&T and was wondering, is it capable of Wireless Charging? I read articles online saying it was "confirmed" to use Qi Charging before it came out, but have found nothing stating that the final version came with Qi charging. Can you confirm whether it does or not?
So now that you've been using this tablet in class, do you think it's a comfortable experience? Do you ever feel like you want or need more space to write rather than having to scroll down every time you hot the end of the screen?
Hey great video. Is the same note taking app available in the note 10.1 (2014)? I need it to take notes, especially math notes and I'm wondering if it's the right tablet to buy ( I'm talking about the note 10.1 2014 edition just to make clear). Can I upload my notes directly on dropbox or another cloud system, and can I choose the zoom level after the note has been taken to view it on a A4 format and to print it if need be? Thanks a lot !
wow u have reviewed it really well; i bought this one, really pricy btw, because of its S pen features. Being a student, who really writes a lot, and memorize by writing, I have made a really good use out of it. Don't really play games or watch video with it or take pictures, otherwise I would have bought ps3 or use it with my laptop or bought a camera; I wouldn't recommend it unless you are rich enough to afford it; you can still use papers and pens.....
Can polaris-created documents be opened and edited on computer? (eg microsoft office) Can you multiwindow with polaris office or viewer? When you open a pdf link in stock browser, does it automatically download? (the reason I'm asking this one is because this works on my s3, however the internet stops working if i try to download the same link on my note 2)
Can anyone help please? I watched the video and at 7:35 I watch as he touches T for text and then on the keyboard touches at the bottom to get the handwriting screen split . I can't do that because I have the microphone symbol. It's driving me crazy! Any ideas ?
It is quite expensive I agree, but I'd choose a new Nexus 7 over the iPad any day. The iPad mini is quite overpriced and I'd rather pay the extra amount to upgrade to a Note 8 or save my money at get a Nexus 7, which arguably is also an upgrade.
its 450!!! for the wifi here in Australia thats including Tax has to say that because you guys in teh U.S. don't have a universal sales tax and include the tax in you prices. and its $650 for the 3g version. both 16gb intenal we don't seem to have the 32gb models
I want this tablet because I love the look of it and the s pen the price is a little much and 75% of the features on it I will never even use I wish the extra money would have went to a HD screen and higher quality parts other than all that plastic hoping to see it upgraded in the near future if not the iPad mino with retina display will he stealing the show this year which sucks Cruz I'm not a apple person
iPad mini actually has a lower resolution, though I never understood why people flip about screen. As long as videos don't like crappy I really don't care what resolution is.
There are a few solutions if you root your device, but the way android is set up, you'll have the same problem with any of the other tablets, it's not unique to the Note 8.
i see you watching anime so i expecting you read manga on it can you tell me is it good to read manga on it specially the screen size with perfect viewer
I went with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 model N5120. It's a cell phone, a huge cell phone as well as a great tablet! I use mine here in Florida on Straight Talk with the AT&T compatible Micro SIM card. I love it! Can't seem to get 4G signals where I live, but H+ is fast enough for me. Also wanted to mention the VanGoddy Hydei Carrying Case Size 7 (comes in different colors and textures) is a PERFECT fit to hold the N5120 for portability! It's a slim, zippered padded bag with a semi-rigid handle on top. I use the handle with a small carabiner and keyring to hook the phone onto my belt. When the phone rings I answer using a Bluetooth headset. I am one snazzy turd...NERD!! :)
What's the difference between your N5120 and the N5100 which is also a phone? Are you running Lollipop, KitKat, or JellyBean? I just ordered the N5100 two days ago.
Thanks, I will be purchasing the M-25 as I'm seeking a very small hardly noticeable Bluetooth earpiece. I went with the Otterbox Defender case. Wished it had a belt clip but I know a device this size has no business being toted around on a belt clip holster, but for my working conditions it would be ideal. I usually buy Ballistic cases but this time I didn't want a black case. The Otterbox company offered a grey/white case for the Note 8. Also going to leave mine running Jelly Bean 4.1.2 as I too read the negative results of upgrading to higher versions of Android. I do believe however that rooting the device may be a plus as I would be able to add any app to the multitasking menu.
Thanks for sharing this helpful info. I went with the Otterbox Defender case. Was wondering however if I could apply a tempered glass screen protector along with this case because this case has a built in screen protector already. Each of the last 3 phones I've used, this is how I protected the screen. As for the Bluetooth I think I have stumbled upon a nicely designed one. I hooks around the ear but doesn't protrude any farther than the earlobe. It's the Jabra Stone 3. Haven't completely checked it out yet but I do like the design. Watched a video on rooting this device which was very fast and simple. Like you my device is still way to new (not even a week old), so I too will hold off on this just yet. Oh yeah I want to carry mine on my hip as I did all my other phones. I modified my Otterbox case to accommodate this but this device may be too big for this. I mean it worked but removing phone from holster is slightly difficult and forces you to use both hands to remove.
Tempered glass screen protectors sound like something I'd be interested in! I've never heard of such before! Thanks for sharing that! I've just finished a search on the subject and found Otterbox does make what they call Alpha Glass screen protectors? One of these might fit with the Defender case? I also read that Otterbox Alpha Glass screen protectors are easier to apply than regular screen protectors, they don't cause bubbles and the glass is pretty thin. Otterbox makes an Alpha Glass screen protector for the Galaxy Note 4 it seems? I'm thinking of buying one because I haven't installed a screen protector yet on my Note 4! Here's the one I found: www.otterbox.com/Alpha-Glass-Screen-Protector-for-Galaxy-Note-4/sam38-galaxy-note-4,default,pd.html?dwvar_sam38-galaxy-note-4_color=AH&start=5&cgid=shop_cases&q=alpha%20glass
Read Forinfo If you happen to go with the Jabra Stone 3 Bluetooth I'd love to hear how it performs! If people you talk to while using the Stone 3 rarely ask you to repeat yourself - you know the unit is not too bad?? I have three Plantronics M25 Bluetooth earpieces now! :) I had purchased a couple used the other day that came with a car charger for like $13 includ ship. :) If you wanted to test one out with your Note 4 to compare to a Jabra Stone 3 I'd mail you one of mine! :) First thing I did when these came in yesterday? I took out the isopropyl alcohol and cleaned each of them thoroughly! There's nothing like seeing ear crud on Bluetooth devices left from previous owners! Yum Yum! Who knows what I had cleaned-off?? :))) Still, for $13 it was worth it (opinions may vary).
You totally sold me on the Note 8 because of the handwriting to text features. It's exactly what I want. So very good review!
I have this tablet. It's amazing - I'm a Designer - Gamer - Reader - Surfer. This easily fits all my needs like a glove. Being able to watch a video on youtube while im sketching then jump to need for speed with no lagging is honestly a killer awe factor. Just got a galaxy note yesterday! So far I'm loving this freaking tablet.
Very nice review! I have recently bought it, and was trying to extract the maximum out of s pen. This really helped
Excellent video! this is what I was looking for, a real life example of how to use the s pen and what is capable of. Thank you!
best review of s pen, which i really wanted to see. this review is really helpful.
Yes this is very useful in a classroom setting, especially the multitasking. Hate to sound like a terrible student, but pulling up a web browser while taking notes has become one of the key reasons I love this thing.
That was a really beneficial review the especially the detail in which you went into with regards the Snote. Thanks :)
Best review of the S pen & productivity I've seen, excellent
Im using note 8, while watching ur review hehe. Im using it for almost a year now, still works great for me hehe
This is gonna be soooooooo helpful in class this year! Awesome review! :)
Thank for your review. I learned new things to do with my note!
Great video, I am a student and I really appreciate your review from a students point of view. Thanks.
Good review of S note. most reviews i watched hardly showed a lot of it.
Best review. Really I wanted to know abt spen and snote. Ykou made my decision final to go with this.
Yep there is a silo on the bottom right corner of the device for the SPen. So it is stored in the tablet.
Yes it's pricey, but depending on your uses, it's obviously marketed to a small niche. On the other hand, I thought I might mention that I bought another stylus for the Note 8.0 called the Samsung 8pi, it's a little longer and made writing even easier. No problem, glad people are buying this for class because I'm loving it more and more as I use it in a real class setting.

No problem, I wanted to answer the questions that I had before buying.
Sweet...I found exactly what I was looking for in this review. Thanks much: -)
Hello! How can I set it up so that when the pen is removed from the tablet, a page with tabs appears, like at 4:55 in the video?
Yes Polaris works with MultiWindow and it will export to Office just fine.
When I open a PDF in the browser, it asks if I want to open it with Adobe Reader, etc.
Thank you for telling me how you use it, this helps me a lot :D

Very helpful. Just picked up my note 8.0 (refurbished from Factory Direct) for $279.99
I actually read very little manga, but I tested it out real quick, it's really quite good, everything is sharp and you most likely don't need to resize for any text. There's also a reading mode that will adjust the brightness.
Good review. I am very happy with my purchase. I love this tablet even though I have an ipad2.
Has somebody an idea, why samsung stopped to produce this porduct or a successor?
Got a refurbished one for $270 on Amazon, works like a dream and came with a one year warranty in case something goes wrong in the future. Good bang for the buck if you ask me!

*In their latest patch (or maybe they have already, haven't been keeping up much). Just wondering. Also, fantastic review.
There's two, one is the built in in the SNote app, and the other is Samsung's keyboard that only comes with Note devices.
What a great device! Though said as "not really perfect" on the handwriting recognition, there's none that I've seen other device that perform as better than this. However, the price is a bit expensive..

How about, if your hand and Spen put togethere in a screen. That may cause a problem.
I need this for school I need a tablet for school bc we do tons of research and all that jazz and I really likee this one and it's the perfs size ik they have it in other sizes but I need it to fit in like my handbag
Have it and I love it! ♥
Should I get this or an ipad
You have to hold that button down to get the other options, then it sticks to your last choice.
Thanks for the detail review. After watching this, I really want the Note 8. I plan to use the Note 8 (mainly) for reading textbooks (pdf) and taking notes. Is the screen big enough? Do you have to zoom in to be able to read the text? How about annotation? Please do a review about it.
You can export it to either pdf or jpg.
Have you downloaded XBMC from their website yet? If I remember correctly, they aid they'll implement hardware acceleration in
Excelent video! Excelent review!

Great review! one quick question, is it possible to edit a file like excel file directly on google drive? and upload it after editing?
Thank you
what' the handwriting input method in the video?
It's awesome!
Nice review. Thank you.
Thanks, I had another question if you don't mind. I'm about to get one of these from AT&T and was wondering, is it capable of Wireless Charging? I read articles online saying it was "confirmed" to use Qi Charging before it came out, but have found nothing stating that the final version came with Qi charging. Can you confirm whether it does or not?

thank you for the response !
nice review!!
Is the size of note 8 any problem for note taking ? As it seems to be too small for multitasking. I don't know if I should get the note 8 or 10.1.
Does the s pen store anywhere on or in the tablet or do you have to carry it separately?
wow u have reviewed it really well; i bought this one, really pricy btw, because of its S pen features. Being a student, who really writes a lot, and memorize by writing, I have made a really good use out of it. Heh, well I'm in Canada, so I got hit with a slight price increase and a tax too, but I hear it's really bad in Australia for electronics.
Can polaris-created documents be opened and edited on computer? (eg microsoft office)
Can you multiwindow with polaris office or viewer?
When you open a pdf link in stock browser, does it automatically download? (the reason I'm asking this one is because this works on my s3, however the internet stops working if i try to download the same link on my note 2)
Good review!!!
I suppose, but it's not cheap and not complete. I sideload a lot of old shows and anime onto my devices. So it was quite important for me.
Can anyone help please?
I watched the video and at 7:35 I watch as he touches T for text and then on the keyboard touches at the bottom to get the handwriting screen split . I can't do that because I have the microphone symbol.
It's driving me crazy! Any ideas ?
my galaxy note 10.1 has not got google chrome and youtube to multi-task with... how do i get them?
Heads up. this tablet will support a 128gb micro sd card. I put one in this and my 10.1 and works great.
It is quite expensive I agree, but I'd choose a new Nexus 7 over the iPad any day. The iPad mini is quite overpriced and I'd rather pay the extra amount to upgrade to a Note 8 or save my money at get a Nexus 7, which arguably is also an upgrade.

It will be soon enough. There are leaks of the official 4.2, and OTA's are probably not far behind.
Does the s pen scratch the screen
Obviously not
I want this tablet because I love the look of it and the s pen the price is a little much and 75% of the features on it I will never even use I wish the extra money would have went to a HD screen and higher quality parts other than all that plastic hoping to see it upgraded in the near future if not the iPad mino with retina display will he stealing the show this year which sucks Cruz I'm not a apple person

can i make update to it's os to jelly bean 4.1 to 4.3 ?? plz answer !! :D
how is the battery life? thanks.

Yep Chinese works great, not sure about Japanese but I assume that's in there too.
I'm certain the casing is good in terms of durability, but really it still makes the whole device feel cheap.
I don't believe it does, mine charges with a wire.
Not really. At the moment 4.2 is leaked.
Aw that sucks... Though schools are starting to come around I think.
