@Xu. You are probably right with China. I took a second look at a map, and given that he is a tad east of lake Baikal, it would be somewhere in the Kazhakstan, China, Mongolia, Russia border region, but yeah, probably north-western China / Dzungaria.
He actually started by the Aydar lake, meaning he is either is Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan
