The Amazing Marleena Shaw... I remember this song in the 70s when it came out and every ear was tuned in to what initially was thought to be Nancy Wilson and then the radio announce "Marleena Shaw!".What a testament to not only the classiest sounds of that time but of ALL TIME . Your sisterly rap in the beginning is certainly unmatched; and your rich musical vocals paved the way for what became known as jazz/R&B music; simply phenomenal!!!
she is truly an amazing Jazz vocalist who delved successfully and beautifully into the Disco era and she was the first woman artist signed to Blue Note records
...I got to see her up North, a club on Divasdero, San Francisco (I think before this recording) and later at Yoshi's (Claremont)... she was fantastic!
This may sound silly, but I used to sneak in my mom's music and listen to this album when I was a kid. I used to pretend like I was sitting in the audience enjoying the show! LOL!!! First of all, I absolutely LOVE Marlena Shaw!! This rendition is the ULTIMATE version of this song. I had the pleasure of seeing Ms. Shaw live in concert a few years ago and she was AWESOME! Just as sassy and soulful as ever! This brings back so many memories for me. Thanks for posting this version!
the studio version of this song is a classic beautiful Quiet Storm favorite. it is melodic clever funny touching and many other excellent qualities all rolled into one this live version is a hoot Marlena Shaw's comedic wit and quickness are not to be believed in addition to her amazing Jazzy vocal Talent
Sensational.... great hearing this once again, she is Brilliant.. and funny, Love her... thanks for posting, wonderful repartee~ a timeless classic. Put a great big smile on my face :)) M xox
@SuperXavier30 - Thanks for making me feel better about my little confession! LOL Actually, my friend took me as a surprise. I had know Idea who I was going to see, then all of the sudden the music starts and out comes the diva herself! I was almost in tears, I was so excited! If you ever get a chance to see one of her shows, please do. Not only is she a great vocalist, but she is funny as hell. Marlena puts on quite a show.
