you guys seriously ROCK! Thank you so much for making high quality videos with really well explained information :) It helps so much to decide to whether buy a game or not

@BeanSand In addition, pirates hardly get to delve into the missions and rumors when they're on the run and excluded from half of the board after a couple of merchant raids.
Don't get me wrong, I love this game; however, I think that there's a definite advantage in being a merchant. If I can ever wrangle up enough people to play this again, I will probably try lowering in-demand good selling price to 4-5 gold as opposed to 6, and maybe try to find other tweaks to balance both paths.

This is a very likely purchase for me after having read the entirety of the rules in pdf format and watching your video.
It wasn't originally the style of game I was looking for, but this is likely something that both I and the majority of my friends will be able to enjoy.

It's called a "SPIEL release," not an "Essen release." SPIEL is the annual games fair held in Essen, Germany. You wouldn't refer to a game as an "Indianapolis release" if it was released at Gen Con, right?
I'm sorry that your player boards look a bit warped. I hope my version is fairing better, but feel compelled to go check. Thanks for another great video Jeremy, it was well done as always.

@YoksterMan It is acceptable to call a game released at Essen Internationalen Spieltage an "Essen release." This game fair is always held in Essen and it is the largest game fair in the world for boardgaming. Saying a game came from Essen is easier on the layman as well (vs. Essen Internationalen Spieltage SPIEL). BTW, GenCon has not always been at Indy, in addition, GenCon holds events elsewhere as well. Saying an Indy release (vs. GenCon) could become confusing in that respect. Great review!

I have a question for you though that I would appreciate you answer to the best of your knowledge. What board game would you recommend for someone looking for a more area control, resource management, and combat strategy game?
I lean more toward those with a real-world Medieval or even fantasy theme, since that's what I'm more into, but wouldn't mind something more modern or even science-fiction based. Some of the games I've looked into include Runewars and Warrior Knights to name a few. Ty.

Read about pirate vs merchant gameplay on bgg. Being a pirate is harder but if played well you can win a lot faster

Great video, but why call it "Components Breakdown". I almost didnt watch it because I thought it wouldnt have any description of the game.

Great video! However, I have to disagree with you on the balancing of the game. This game most definitely favors merchants due to the fact that they just have to sail from port to port selling in-demand goods. Pirates are automatically everyone's enemy, plus they can be excluded from ports with every bounty. Also, the fact that pirates usually start with a sloop significantly decreases merchant raids' profitability due to the need for repairs.
