That is why I called to confirm that I was allowed to do the flight, however who is going to fly the flight is at the captain's discretion on any given day. That is why I was asking him to fly, not because it was prohibited for me to fly it. Enjoy the video.

putting myself in the shoes of a hypothetical captain: I would much rather have a first officer make his first landing at a tricky airport under my supervision than have him wait until he is a captain and attempt the landing without someone to give tips and pointers. it just seems like a logical way to do things.
@Phillip Banes You can't simulate real life, also you can't realistically or economically train pilots on every single "special" airport. Also, booking simulator sessions just to go to one airport wouldn't be economical either. In this case, just going and doing it is pretty much the best option if the captain has flown in there before, and can ensure a safe landing.

Absolutely loved this Kelsey! Your production levels have gone way up with your new editor(s?) and this day in the life of content is always fascinating for us Earth-bound creatures. Keep the blue side up!
The -8 isn't just bigger, its a lot heavier. The skin was gauged up over the -400 and there's extra metal in the nose gear torque boxes, and you actually have less lift from the flaps because they are not segmented like the -400 flaps, and the main landing gear doors look different on the -8 because they had to be redesigned so the horizontal stab would work efficiently. I know a lot about the dash eight.
Excellent video in all respects, Kelsey. Congrats on doing the high altitude landing, and on being good enough that the Captain was comfortable with you doing it. Happy Easter, and stay safe in Mexico.
Just want to say i love the increase in the production quality, the extra B roll and little bit of ATC Audio adds so much to the videos, thank you. keep up the good work
Kelsey, I can’t tell you the amount of times I went to my hotel room, totally exhausted after flying to Europe from Atlanta, and the hotel key didn’t work! Kelsey - the visuals and videography on this are phenomenal ! The story-line and plot twists kept me riveted to the screen. Glad you finally got a keycard to work - I don't travel much ( once or twice a year) and this always happens to me. I blame my magnetic personality for wiping out the cards.
@@74gear Did something change? Q is Airport Qualification (HKG) versus means Special Airport Qualification which might have Captain only or other considerations. Right?
Another good one, Kelsey--I really like this new vlog style! So glad you were able to convince the captain to let you fly the landing. You're going to make a great captain; hope you invite us all to your virtual promotion party!!
When I was a F/A with American I can remember my first time flying into there. Nobody told me about the altitude there. So as we’re walking through the airport to catch our limo I started having a very hard time breathing - to the point I thought I was having a medical. The captain proceeded to tell me about the high altitude. That was a brief scary moment for me. Also, Mexico City smells like sulphur. I do have to say the people there were some of the most nicest and welcoming in all my travel experience. 🌴☀️🌴
I lived 9 years of my life in LA , from CT... almost every year I would fly back East , and flying back... touching down in LAX its like the last 20 minutes are nothing but city lights, as far as my eyes see from up there... Thanks 74, you put that into perspective.
isn’t it just crazy how almost this whole video was recorded on an iPhone? the video quality, editing, music, everything is perfect. your video have improved SOOOO MUCH in such a short time! GG
These little snippets of what you do are pretty cool. You tell little anecdotes about the day to day experience in your other videos, but it's much better to just see it. Very well polished, too. You said in your previous video that this is the kind of content you want to produce, and it's obvious you want it to work by the effort you put in with the editing and extra footage. I've been watching you forever, it seems. I think I'll join after this one. But I really do still like the viral debriefs and ATC videos. But It's totally cool for you to limit it to just one debrief or one ATC incident like you did in the last video... I still want to watch. In fact, save the second one for a separate video and make your life easier... I think your viewers would be as happy or even happier to get that little notification more often and know that you're not working yourself to death just to give us our entertainment (and education).
Hard to believe that just 20 years ago, wifi was hardly anywhere. You knew you were in a fancy hotel if it had wifi, and you probably paid a pretty penny for access to it. Times have changed and technology marches on!

I'm sure it would be a great life improvement for you and the people around. If not that, how about injecting some humoristic fun into your life once in a while. I guess it's pathetic too.
The great thing about the 747 has been how it creates massive ground effect when it flies low enough, so a well trained pilot can "easily" land a 747 gently.

Your "Keys, phone, wallet, badge" check reminds me of this error-prevention training we had a number of years ago. Our instructor always had us think of an "assignment" (e.g., leaving the house to go shopping), and mentally going through the items we need (e.g., keys, phone, wallet). Good stuff!
I just flew spirit to PR and back for vacation. No issues at all except what my wife thought was severe turbulence on the way in to San Juan. And now I'm some how very enthralled in avaitation. Love the channel.
Obviously not...he flew there in advance and set up GoPros at the airport, then hired someone to fly alongside him for the flight so he could get proper b-roll.
I think what he’s asking for here is essentially “may I please be the designated captain for this take off/departure (Leg)? When I first saw it (non pilot enthusiast) it sounded odd. Like can I work the controls and don’t tell anyone?! 🤦♂️ of course not I know that’s not what would be happening. 😝 I just didn’t understand the tension in that scene but it’s great the way it is. It’s a perfect little movie because it draws you in and makes you curious. And it answers a lot of questions too. Excellent work. Raising the bar for vlogging here.

A lot of people don't pay attention to your videos or they don't watch all of it. For example when you made that video about the book " _Falling_ ” , there were comments comparing the story you were telling to the plot of the book. 🤦♀️
What?? NO Free breakfast?? Oh well at least you got to fly a dash-8 into a high-altitude airport!
Great episode Kelsey. I find it really amazing that you can fly the plane AND get those amazing camera angles of the takeoff and landing. Your channel has really come a long way!
Fake footage.
Yeah, the ground angle must be tricky.
@@NoName-zn1sb Real sarcastic humour.
Kelsey bought a real good drone which flew along and created the external shots :)
The editing on this video was on a different level. And the sound, too. I love this being part of the mix, nicely done!
Awesome video Kelsey. They seem to get more realistic each time and really give an insight into your daily life. Thanks once again. 👌
Realistic??!? It's mostly fake footage
@@NoName-zn1sb dude get a life.
Congrats on the 1M subscribers, Kelsey! Love this vlog with 747 stock footage and all the angles of yourself throughout, specially the "can I fly" scene.
I understand his feelings about no free breakfast. It's the little things 😀 Great, safe flying. Glad Captain let you fly leg.
November 861 Golf Tango is a 747-8F, serial number 67148, built in 2022, and delivered by Oct of that year. It is currently owned by Atlas Air and has been to L.A., Miami, Hong Kong, Frankfurt Germany, and now Mexico City.
love these videos! especially when we get to see inside the flightdeck & around the plane! the day in the life of a pilot ones are so interesting. thanks for all the awesome content
Kelsey, I just am at a loss for words when it comes to how far you have come with your channel. It's just amazing content!! I love this take us to work with you sneak peeks, it takes it to a whole other level, and the editing is just genius-level stuff!
Whenever I head to the airport I look at the planes parked at the gates. It must be a super cool feeling to see the plane that you're actually about to fly as you're approaching the airport.
So wonderful to share with you, Kelsey. No WIFI. Well, I live in the North Shore of Lake Superior-moved from the West Coast in 2021 and the power goes out here frequently reminding me of how important WIFI is. It's terrible when it's out. Safe journeys always. Thanks for the enormous effort it takes to make these videos. My bro in law flew for AA for 40 years. My sister was an AA flight attendant for 45 years.
He's paying an editor for all that gimcrackery and stock footage.
Random comment I know but how do you like your new home? We are thinking of relocating from WA State to Michigan. Everything I see and hear about the Great Lakes is good, not including power issues of course!
@@NoName-zn1sb YES, I am aware of exactly that but doing this job is hard enough not to have an awareness of camera angles and not filming coworkers. I see you wanted to remain anonymous while stating this nasty. C O WA R D. Your comment was made to diminish and disrupt and it didn’t. Kelsey never hid that fact and even publicly looked for an editor a few months ago.
I'm absolutely loving these vlog style videos. It's far more interesting to see real ops rather than watching clip shows. I hope you enjoy making them as much as we enjoy watching them.
This must be one of the most fun 74Gear videos yet! Thanks for bringing us along!
I’m loving these vlog style vids! I don’t know if you are putting them together but they are so well done. Glad you got to fly into that airport! 🎉
Absolutely loved this Kelsey! Your production levels have gone way up with your new editor(s?) and this day in the life of content is always fascinating for us Earth-bound creatures. Keep the blue side up!
As a pilot myself 03:26 made my Day
You're an awesome guy Kelsey 🙌🏻
The -8 isn't just bigger, its a lot heavier. The skin was gauged up over the -400 and there's extra metal in the nose gear torque boxes, and you actually have less lift from the flaps because they are not segmented like the -400 flaps, and the main landing gear doors look different on the -8 because they had to be redesigned so the horizontal stab would work efficiently. I know a lot about the dash eight.
Impressive. Sounds like Boeing made an effort with her.
Video starts in one hotel room, ends in another. Life of a pilot.
So good, I had to watch it twice! Absolutely loving these new style vlog videos, Kelsey. Hands down my favorite aviator channel now
Not me. I hate it- it's phoney!
A very appropriate waypoint for a vlogging pilot. As always an excellent episode.
Maaaaaaaaan the editing, music, timeing - everything - looks incredible!
Excellent video in all respects, Kelsey. Congrats on doing the high altitude landing, and on being good enough that the Captain was comfortable with you doing it.
Happy Easter, and stay safe in Mexico.
Too commercial!
@@NoName-zn1sb ???
Just want to say i love the increase in the production quality, the extra B roll and little bit of ATC Audio adds so much to the videos, thank you. keep up the good work
The joy on your face Kelsey when the captain said you could fly made the video !
Kelsey, I can’t tell you the amount of times I went to my hotel room, totally exhausted after flying to Europe from Atlanta, and the hotel key didn’t work! Then had to go back down to the lobby to have my key reprogrammed.😡I’m retired now but miss my job terribly (flight attendant: 41 years with Delta). You are so blessed to be working. Love your videos! ❤️🐈
6:15 "This is what I love to do at 3 am" you have real balls of steel to walk around like that during cursed hour
He's a vampire.
My favorite "fake" pilot, killing it with the vlogs.
It's all greenscreen. Don't be fooled.
@@Cimlite and Hollywood still hasn't called me
@@74gear 😆
With the amount of effort he puts into his "fake" airline videos to make them so accurate and lifelike, he could probably become a pilot.
@@MDE_never_dies😄
Kelsey - the visuals and videography on this are phenomenal !
The story-line and plot twists kept me riveted to the screen.
Glad you finally got a keycard to work - I don't travel much ( once or twice a year) and this always happens to me.
I blame my magnetic personality for wiping out the cards.
Kelsey: "Can I fly the leg to Mexico City?"
Captain : "Sure."
4 hours later
Captain: "Kelsey? Why are we in Dallas?"
I think it's one of the best videos which you've ever done (I love theese vlogs and the other things you do). Keep the blue side up!
I have 30 years of Major Carrier Management experience and never knew that MEX was a "Q" city. Very interesting. Great video!!
I think its different for every airline, it just so happens for may airline it is that way.

Holy cow, that's a lot higher than Denver. I had no idea. And I noticed the air thing in Denver too but was expecting it.
I lived 9 years of my life in LA , from CT... almost every year I would fly back East , and flying back... touching down in LAX its like the last 20 minutes are nothing but city lights, as far as my eyes see from up there... Thanks 74, you put that into perspective.
higher up the air is less dense to the aircraft has less uplift, hence you have to fly faster during landing in higher places
isn’t it just crazy how almost this whole video was recorded on an iPhone?
the video quality, editing, music, everything is perfect. your video have improved SOOOO MUCH in such a short time!

The launch into the bed at the end was one of your most impressive flights, and that's saying something! 😁
Supurb vid; pacing, cutting, sound, dialog, all beautifuly put together. Academia Awards for RUclips vids, THIS is a contender!
Hard to believe that just 20 years ago, wifi was hardly anywhere. You knew you were in a fancy hotel if it had wifi, and you probably paid a pretty penny for access to it. Times have changed and technology marches on!
Kesler, the production value of these videos is great and I love the music and b roll.
Keep it up, one of my top 3 aviation channels.
Ps, you should do something with Dan Gryder or Blancolirio, the taco theif.
This is one of the more entertaining episodes, loved it! I'm an ultralight pilot so this makes me look ridiculous.
. I've been away from your channel for a while. So here I am, startled and pleased with what you're doing with editing - fades, long shots for the narrative, establishment shots, character portrayal and more. Loving your channel more and more.
Mexico/ locked in van / Security rolling up their sleeves headed toward you... Ransom demand to follow? That felt like a movie, well done you and your assistant. A lot of care and talent went into making this.
i LOVE when an employee is excited to get to work and challenge themselves..
regardless of whether(weather
Kelsey, since you are not a Captain do you want to become one? If so what is required and if not why don't you want to become one? It would be good to make a video about this. Thanks.
Bit of fighter pilot mentality in here for sure "The dash-eight is tricky in there..." Kelsey: Yes. That is why I want to do it.
4:48 Wow Kelsey was recording from outside the plane and flying it at the same time!😁
It’s rendered
So awesome that you get to go to Mexico City. That's where my wife is from!
Rumor has it that Kelsey passed up a captaincy in exchange for a guarantee of free breakfasts everywhere he lands.
Good stuff guy, good stuff. My dad was a pilot for Pan Am. I grew up an airline brat. Can't imagine a better childhood. You bring back a lot of memories. Keep it up. "Clipper American dream heavy outbound and out".

You got me. I upvoted. Damn you! :)
No upvote from me. Asking for likes is pathetic
@@ericmcgovern1764 so you don't agree that kelsey never dissapoints? I believe he's not asking for himself but to support what he says, which is... well, read the comment. You are right tho. even if politicians do it all the time and any other elected official, it's certainly pathetic to ask for support of a true fact, right? I don't know man, maybe you should start considering more than what you can see on the surface before taking decisions on stuff. I'm sure it would be a great life improvement for you and the people around.
If not that, how about injecting some humoristic fun into your life once in a while. I guess it's pathetic too.
@@ericmcgovern1764 Yeah but didn't really ask. I did that to see who agrees with me. I don't care about likes. They don't do anything.
The great thing about the 747 has been how it creates massive ground effect when it flies low enough, so a well trained pilot can "easily" land a 747 gently.
A 747 lands on a cushion of air.
6:30 - Then only time pilots welcome a 'crash landing'. Thanks for the vid Kelsey. Appreciate the time and effort behind producing these.
*The. not Then.
I want you to know Kelsey I've been watching your videos for quite a time now and I've always been interested in aviation my dad was in the army Air corps and then the United States Air Force he taught aircraft maintenance at Sheppard Air Force base but man I would go up with you anytime and I would feel completely safe but anyway I like the excitement you had in your face when he allowed you to land there that was cool.
Your "Keys, phone, wallet, badge" check reminds me of this error-prevention training we had a number of years ago. Our instructor always had us think of an "assignment" (e.g., leaving the house to go shopping), and mentally going through the items we need (e.g., keys, phone, wallet). Good stuff!
Kelsey: Can I fly this leg?
Captain: I was gonna fly but if you wanted to, I could care less.
Then that face the Kelsey makes. I’m laughing so hard.
I just flew spirit to PR and back for vacation. No issues at all except what my wife thought was severe turbulence on the way in to San Juan. And now I'm some how very enthralled in avaitation. Love the channel.
That's one amazing selfie stick that lets you shoot video from outside the plane while you're flying it!
Kelsey your clips have become movie quality, clarity, detail and content 10/10 champ.
Like @MetsterAnn said, “this editing is so good. “Excellent immersive look into the Mexico run. Sorry about the No free breakfast! You did a fine job on that landing. You produce such quality in your videos! Thank you for providing such a solid aviation experience!
The video editing and content is TOP NOTCH, Kelsey! It feels like I'm watching a Hollywood production...just on a topic that I actually care about! Thanks!
Kelsey, you must very respected as a pilot because that captain did not hesitate a moment in saying no problem you can fly the plane . very good video ,thanks .
Nice that you got to check that off the bucket list, only shame is that we weren't allowed to see more of it!
Great video. Wonderful editing. So glad you got to land. Your excitement and pleasure is why so many live vicariously thru 74 gear.
