Spending $600-1000 on a lawyer to save yourself $$$$$ in the future from a bad contract is the best advice i was ever given. Great video as always Devin
Dude been such a huge fan since you have a tick mark on this comment. I am working for an agency and we have a contract for Lord VPN but I take 80%. What do you think?
It's even worse in real estate. There is so little incentive for your agent to fight to get you the best sale price on your property. You could sell your house for 500k vs 525k and the agent only makes $750 more (@ 3%). The additional $24,250 may be a lot to you, but often the $750 extra isn't worth the additional grind for the agent.
Would agree a subpar agent isn’t going to make that push. A long-term focused agent isn’t concerned with the $750 but getting a client 25k over their original target price? That screams someone who’ll send referrals down the line. Definitely worth it for the guys who can pull that type of thing off
Love when you give your insights about the industry and how it works. You're so good at explaining thoroughoughly without drawing out or regurgitating your points.
The problem with knowing what agencies take rate is, they always gate-keep it unless you’re on an exclusive basis. So many agencies will not disclose their rate on a sponsorship.
Yes, above 20% is almost always unacceptable. I used to work as a talent manager and anything higher than that unless they're manicuring and pedicuring you daily is too much! It's tough for a lot of talent agencies to make money because margins are tight, but as the creator that ain't your problem. The agency chose the business they're in! Good stuff as usual Devin
Getting contracts reviewed by a lawyer is applicable to any contract you sign. I spent $300 on it to understand an employment contract, because there were clauses I didn't understand, and if I hadn't I definitely could of been taken advantage of if they tried to claim I broke the clause, which the lawyer told me is not enforceable even if I sign it or told me the scale and ability to enforce it would be heavily restricted compared to how it sounded.
Thank you for your videos. I'm not interested in being a content creator myself but it is interesting to see how these things are developing. Thank you for all the work you do It is greatly appreciated.
Yeah, I'm not even too involved in esports (anymore) and I've seen every single one of these pernicious issues come up when chatting with talent and players.
It's ironic that so many people that start youtube channels have zero business experience. You should do a parody video talking about the worst deals that people have been offered. I recently received one that is an instant classic.
Devin is back! I liked your intro man. Doing the right thing is always the best option, even if its pragmatically is not. Your concious will leave you alone, and peple will reward you with gratitude. Also you wont have to lie to yourself when you say youre a good person.
Thank you for your videos I really do appreciate them, As an esports owner it gets me to thinking about a lot of stuff and how I can do best by my players and content creators, I am glad I can proudly say I follow a lot of what you say.
23:52 Thanks for the updated version of this video. Love this kinda stuff, I'm pretty much a fiend for it. I go by this policy: You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. Fuck with me, you're gone.
The first piece of advice I give anyone is get a second opinion on anything important, starting with whatever I happen to be telling you at the moment. The second piece I offer is that once you are considering contracts or spending money for any 3rd party to help you with your content creation venture, first find your "AAA team!" You need access to an Attorney, an Accountant, and an Agent whos fees are transparent and fair, and who won't have a conflict of interest with anyone whom you plan to do business!
Devin Nash or Devin Nyash. I really appreciate Devin and his nyashful content bringing me closer to peak Ninja during Fortnite. I will not let these companies bully me into a split more than 1%. I know my worth thanks to the Nyash - much love from North Korea. We making it boys.
Where's the Creators 101 Handbook when they need it? Creators don't know how to associate a value to their brands so they get screwed behind the scenes in these activations. RUclips Ad integrations are associated to a CPM rate, normally $15-20 in my experience (depending on the category). On Twitch, the CPV (Cost per viewer) is between $1.00-$1.50, again depending on the overall deliverables of the activation. While I agree, I think it's important for creators to stay in a non-exclusive agreements because you shouldn't be limiting your possible revenue flow by having only one entity control the deals, I think streamers need to be educated on how they can value their own brands, platforms, and business in order limit the possibility to being screwed by agencies and brands - AND most the time it is the agency. Brands don't understand the space that's why they use a middle man agency in order to complete a campaign.
Hmm, bit of a weird take: In my experience agencies do all the work, often weeks of negotiations - the talent itself - the influencer only delivers the creative. That person typically does the least amount for a deal, so it would be insane to give him or her 80 percent.
So you saw people get epicly screwed and didnt do or say anything to stop it, but now it makes you mad enough to speak? Incrimental goodness isn't doing a good thing. It still keeps those people screwed over and making a video on youtube doesnt actually teach or show anything to those that matter, the people in these deals. Its just an opportunity to enrich yourself, possibly, depending on RUclips, but I digress. Just seems odd to KNOW people are getting screwed, and then let them. Weird career path man, really weird.
Hey everyone ! Shameless plug : I am looking for an agent right now. I am having a lot of trouble finding someone who isn't doing shady tactics. And another question: What do you all think about caps on CPMs? Cheers, -g0at

23:52 // even though I'm nowhere near the industry it is always interesting to hear about the "not public" parts of things. Appreciate the insight :)

Thoughts on the moves Steven Crowder is making? It's a different realm (eSports vs politics/comedy) but the general principal is the same.
All hail the mighty Algorithm
