I can shed a little more light on this. I have a copy of the 2-CD set, "J. R. R. Tolkien - An Audio Portrait" (2001), ISBN 0-563-53693-6. It credits one of its sources as a BBC radio interview with "Denys Gueroult (December 1970)".
