  • Johan explains that although this has been an incredibly hard first week of the Tour, they have only done 1/3 of the meters of total climbing for this tour, which means there is a LOT of racing left in this Tour. Johan also evaluates the top GC teams up to this point in the race.

    Hi from Denmark. Jonas responded to Remco, saying it´s not about balls, but about racing smart (boom). He wen´t out of his comfortzone there. Normally Jonas is extremely introvert, but learned over the years, to handle the pressure around him. He is also a very gentle person, who sometimes seem fragile, and that´s why it´s so important for him, to have he´s wife and daughter close. That helps him focus. Everyone can see, that he feels more relaxed now, then for 1-2 years ago. When Pogacar was jumping backwards in the pool, on the restday last year, before the TT. Jonas was reaxing with he´s familiy. So there u have it. 2 very different personalities, that suits each other perfectly, for us to witness. Let´s take this show into the last week. Cheers from Denmark and thx for this podcast show.

    I honestly don't get the hate towards Jonas, that he only sits on Pogi's wheel. Last year's Tour it was Pogi on Jonas' and Kuss wheel most of the Tour. Just respect they're different riders and have different personalities. Of course in a perfect world it would be exciting if every rider in the peloton was like Pogacar, but that's just not the case. Football would probably also be even more exciting if there was 11 Messi's on the pitch but that will never happen. So let's just enjoy the race and let the best man win without being disrespectful towards any of the riders :-)

  • @Chiller11
    @Chiller11 15 дней назад +7

    It’s a fascinating Tour this year. I still have to think Pogacar has the edge. Yes Jonas has a history of being strong late in the Tour but this is not a normal year for him. His body was significantly traumatized with fractured ribs, fractured clavicle and a punctured lung/pneumothorax. There is also the surrounding soft tissue injury of skin, muscle, tendons, ligament etc. All that injury requires rest/detraining and energy from body stores to heal. The healing process is a logarithmic one with the initial stages being very rapid but the later gradual stages extending for months. That plus the human species detrains more rapidly and retrains more slowly than many animal species, dogs, cats, horses etc. All this means Jonas body is still utilizing some of its energy to heal his wounds plus his body is not trained to its normal level upon starting the Tour. It’s a toss up as to him improving because he is essentially training during the tour thus improving his body’s efficiency or whether the burden of healing/inactivity plus the enormous demands of the Tour will gradually weaken him over time. Could go either way but we’ll know fairly soon.

    Just a little correction: the Tour de France JB is referring to is NOT the one in 1986, instead it is the one in 1989 (!!!) which ended with a thrilling ITT where leading up to that stage Greg LeMond was behind Laurent Fignon by quite a big margin. By using aero equipment of triathletes he won that stage and finished the whole Tour de France 8 seconds in front of Fignon. Imagine that: riding more than 3200 km with lots of mountains and then losing (or winning) by a margin of only 8 seconds!!!
