- Join host Everett Skinner IV, P.E. of The Barn Yard as he discusses the benefits of insulating a post & beam barn with SIP Panels and goes through the installation process on site with The Barn Yard crew. Of the many ways to insulate a timber frame structure (such The Barn Yard's post & beam barns) SIP panels are the best for a number of reasons. First, they allow the full depth of the posts on the interior of the structure to show. Second, SIPs provide outstanding insulating properties. And finally, because SIPs are manufactured to exact specs to perfectly fit your barn, they are easy to install. Learn all about SIP panels in this educational video from The Barn Yard & Great Country Garages.

👍A mi me encanta vivir la nueva casa!, gracias a tu video excelente
I'm researching a Barn Carriage house to build in S.D. This just answered a lot of questions for me. The only questions I have is how they do the interior electrical.
Hi , Any video on youtube don't shoot the timber frame post details attachment to OSB floor or Concrete floor since there are different ways of doing this. Some of them are using sill plates some of them are directly attaching to concrete . Can you please kindly shoot some details of this . I appreciate your efforts and very happy to watch your videos . Thanks
Yea i like that system
Us too.
DPM on wall plate? Breather membrane ?
Our barn built around 1812 is starting to fail. I am told the timber framing is unique. Would be nice to replace it with one of your structures.
Those old barns often have really neat timber framing details. Our Carriage Barn & Saratoga models take inspiration from 1800s barns with authentic timber joinery & details. We'd invite you to check out our website for more info & photos. When you're ready, we'd be glad to start up a conversation about your barn!

So the SIP panel sits on the outside? I guess that enables you to run electrical and plumbing between the timber frame posts?
sip panels have channels pre drilled to slide wiring through
When using sip panels on roofing , can you install skylights
Yes, you sure can. We just photographed a timber frame lake house that had SIPs and skylights. The skylights looked out over the lake. It's on our Instagram if you want to check it out: instagram.com/greatcountrytimberframes/
Why do you choose styrofoam or similar as opposed to polyiso/polyisocyanurate? Im building my own structure and polyiso seems like the only material that will perform well enough. Have you had trouble with polyiso? Thanks!!
Because polyiso loses its performance when cold. So it has to be on the inside of the insulation stack under another material. In this case, the SIP being the only insulation, there is no way the polyiso would be protected from the cold.
@@marcblondin6016 polyiso loses some performance in the cold but it still outperforms styro 4:1
@@chinamed1 Please explain what you mean by "4:1"...
Ideal R-value of polyiso per inch = 6.5. XPS is 5. This is only 30% above at optimal value. How can it outperform 400% when cold if performance is lower?
You can find many sources reporting R-values in the 4 to 5 range for polyiso in cold temperatures, which is below the XPS typical value or equal at best.
How is electrical installation handled?
We recommend running all electrical on the interior in exposed, painted conduit.
@@TheBarnYardStore I know this is a garage so plumbing isn't an issue but in a house how is it handled? Coming by your store tomorrow in Bethel!
What area of the country do you service? I am in Vermont.
We service all of New England with our full builds. We go nationwide for timber frame kits. Check out our post & beam barns & kits here:

I came across a house that I would like to see if you guys can give me a price on timber frame package for expose roof and ceiling look for a post Frame construction to build a house I have in mind wondering how I would go about doing that with you guys
Please contact us via our website and we'd be glad to assist you with that. www.thebarnyardstore.com/get-started/
Why are you using press board instead of plywood?
All SIPS are made with OSB skins due to special jumbo sizing of the insulation panels.
yall need to check out the auto captions in the first 5 seconds lol.
Thanks for the heads up! The captions have now been edited to be accurate.
