What I said before, a proper car has a manual gear box, 400 plus bhp, no traction control, and rear wheel drive. I own a 400 bhp De Tomaso Pantera Gt5 with wide body, 345 rears, and the massive rear wing. Would not sell it for the world. Im 76 and can still drive it fast when in the mood. Very similar car to the Ford GT 40. You can have all of the push button modern super cars that are made for the new money types that often can’t drive them!
@@1Rad65Futura The GT 5 was the wide bodies version of the GTS having extended front and rear wheel arches, bigger wheels and tires, better interior. Mine was a 1984 model which was made until 1985 when it became the GT 5 S with a slightly different body shape.
When I was 25 in 1984 I fell in love with the Pantera and my mother's boyfriend new where there was one in CT. We went looking for it for never found it. I was into restoring 240 260 and 280 Z's
If I was able to throw £200k at a car I'd definitely go this sort of restomod/continuation route. Classic looks and sounds with modern build quality and parts. This is going to be more reliable than any Lambo or Ferrari being released now.
A real car, none of this on-board computer junk, no ABS, sign me up. I've owned a 64 1/2 Mustang, 67 Fairlane GT, 56 Ford F1 with a 390, 79 Pontiac Firebird 455 and they all were pure driving. You didn't have a radio you enjoyed the roar of that V8.
I bought a 2005 Ford GT that had been totalled in 2013. Fortunately, the frame (monocock) damage was minimal. After 4 years of restoration work and a new front clip, passenger side door, mirrors and various trim pieces it was done. It's had all the X-1 upgrades and makes 700 HP. It is a fantastic car and loads of fun to drive. Not a Toyota celica on economy but who cares.
I have loved the GT40 since the age of 5 back in 1966! In 1992 I was lucky enough to get 10 laps in an original Gulf GT40 round Fords test track at Boreham, I remember the straights being short (they weren't you just got to the end very quickly). I remember being pinned into the seat with a 4-point harness and being trapped by the fuel tank, the door was pushing hard down onto my helmet, it was quite uncomfortable. The engine sound was unbelievable it was so loud! She could spin the rear wheels at over 100mph when you planted your right foot. What struck me most of all was the drift as the car exited each bend it would drift its way across the track to the next corner. By the time I had done 10 laps, I was just getting the hang of the car. Sadly I have not been in one since and I still cannot afford a Superformance-built car! I still want one and probably will even when I am 90!
"Would you like to come and drive one?" Rather like asking Dracula if he'd like to visit a bloodbank, I would suggest! I much prefer these old school design of cars which have so much character compared with their modern counterparts.

There's another classic Ford from the late 1960's into the early 1970's that'd shock a lot of Ford fans if they only knew .. It's the Australian Ford Falcon GTHO .. The most famous was the 1971 XY Phase 3 GTHO ...Absolute animal of a car if ever there was . 351 Cleveland V8 ..built to race and sold at Ford dealerships ..The HO had about 100 differences to the normal GT ..used to do over 160 mph and do it all day.. Look it up sometime .. Here in Australia the real deal sell for a million dollars plus ..but there are replicas really accurate to the real thing something like this done by keen enthusiasts ...The GT40 is truly a masterpiece though and this vid was incredible..
I’m 76 years old and have been a Ford guy all my life, I currently have a 2014 Fiesta ST on a Cobb stage two tune and sticky Michelin plot spot tires, it has 113,000 miles on it and I just put my 7th set of tires on it, I still love driving on three wheels, I’d give anything to drive that GT 40. The Fiesta Flash.
Back in the 60s when I was a teenager I had a friend who had one of these, ( dad owned a shipping company in the Bristol Channel) it was like a Spaceship to us mortals. Thanks again Pete for brilliant entertainment.
If this is a Mk2 chassie copy it is originally built in LA CA USA by Holman-Moody. They also built the 427R that was detuned to +550hp in the Le Mans wersion
Wow what a once in a lifetime experience! Thank you so much for sharing this with us all Sir Pete!! This video was fantastic! The sound of that gt 40 is heavenly!! So freaking cool!
Agree with many others - I would have this any day / any time over any modern supercar. To me the analogy is in music listening. Analog vs digital. Analog has a sweet spot over digital ( not everyone agrees, however ). This GT40 would be analog, any modern version digital, with all of the overwhelming technology I'd 'want to do without. Other than my 1971 Mach 1 429 SCJ with Drag Pack, this is my ultimate dream car!
This is such a good concept. There are so many cars, trucks, and motorcycles, that could be built again with absolutely identical specifications. Like the 1969 Honda CB750 4 cylinder bike. Our society has created new products as a mechanism for profit, but the old products worked perfectly well, and many people still want the old products.
Absolutely brilliant, Peter! I grew up idolizing the GT40 in its battle to beat Ferrari. I'm impressed that you fit. Thank you for sharing that once-in-a-lifetime experience with us. I'm officially jealous of the drive but very happy to be a PP subscriber.
Back in the 60s I attended an event as a young car mad child with my Dad at the ‘Pantiles’ in Tunbridge Wells. The highlight of the event for me was meeting Donald Campbell on a stand showing the original GT40 - can you imagine? All my Christmas’ came at once that day and it left me with a memorable day that I still think of to this day - Thanks Dad! 👍😀
Great video on a Great car. Growing up in New Zealand and in a motorsport family, the story of the GT40 winning Le Mans with two Kiwi drivers .....McLaren and Amon... Perhaps have a heading to telling us to turn the volume ALL THE WAY UP TO 11 !!!!!!!!
Absolutely awesome Peter, wow, what a car! I’d totally love to have that experience and more than in anything else. That’ll be something special to remember. Wonderful 😉👌🏻👍🏻
Quite a few of these restomod/continuation models going around now. And they are getting right up there in price, on the point of being expensive. But this is very different.. You are getting something with history, heritage. And most of all. The proper use of the GT40's name. Worth every penny in my book.
It's cool how much you appreciate that machine. I'm old school and love old school big cubic engines. That is a badass, cool, wicked, historical piece of art. 👍👍🏁🏁
Love the title. Yes, it is an analog car and gives it a great place as a collector car. A Plaid is not an analog car, it is a digital car, everything is handled by an operating system.
I'm a Ford guy, my father had an Escort RS Mexico, which we tuned, the GT40 is simply gorgeous so the brand knows it stuff when it comes tuning. When it was time to get some new wheels I didn't hesitate in buying a Mustang GT 5.0 with some 430 HP. It ain't no GT40 but it's more than good enough - and it's still very much an analogue car. I don't think you can get better value for money...
Amazing and great to see these beautiful examples from Superformance in the UK. Cars I want are the MK III , Daytona Coupe and GT40 in full Gulf colours. Love watching these vids as I can relate to them more then the ones from the US making my choices. 👍🥂

Here in New Zealand, my brother has just finished building an 8.0L all Alloy V8, ZF gearbox. It will have a road legal registration, believe it not. Not a kit car. Rolling chassis sourced from South Africa. I made some "proper" wing mirrors for it! Just finishes the exterior lines.

Holman Moody built all the Le Mans winning MkII-cars, they widened & inforced the chassie to handle the mighty 427R engines. This combo was so owerwhelming superiour to the competotors that they were banned two years later

In a techno, pc world demanding cleaner machines and I say that as a fully paid up member of the EV world I love this. Keep screaming as long as you can lads on the public roads. Would it be rude to suggest the GT 40 is just too much of an animal I’d take the GT out once for the experience but take the Cobra home if the spare cash was around.

Wow what a sound and I don’t mean the two wobbles in the seats 😂. I remember in the late 60s early 70s Ford sent some of the LeMans cars around the dealerships and going to Gowrings Ford on the London Rd on my bike to look through the showroom windows and drool, happy days.

Fantastic video - I cannot imagine what an experience it must have been to try and drive this legendary car. WOW - You must have smiled for weeks and weeks after this drive ?
Brother has one, has been modified with scissor doors to make it easier to get in and out of in tight spaces, world not sell it for any amount, done a 2000km trip not long back no problems very reliable.
I got one of these back in March 21 with the 302 on carbs. As they say, plenty of power with that option and above 100 the wind noise is even louder than the engine 😱. Makes an awesome noise, and unlike modern super cars, most people on the road love them and let you out at junctions etc as opposed to cut you up if you are in a Ferrari or Porsche. One modern option I’m very glad I’ve got is the aircon as it gets very hot in there and you only have the window flaps so A/C is essential IMO. I took it on track at Snetterton but it was a very hot day and I fried the module in the distributor before I really got to grips with it, so can’t really say how good it was but everyone there said it won the award 🥇 for best looking and sounding car of the day. YOLO so if you can, just get one 👍

Really great review and drive! Great idea to bring Oliver on the drive, it added great insights. This is my "IT" car !!! Such an amazing car with a super amazing heritage! Thank you!!!
That was awesome. Ford GT40 was my dream car as a young kid. I've always had a soft spot for them. Once I grew up I've always loved the AC Cobra. Its what I'd buy if I had the cash to make a completely frivolous vehicle purchase! Really hope I can look forward to a Cobra video too?
Normally exhaust sounds on RUclips don't come out very well as you well know ped, but the sound of that car was phenomenal, I could only imagine what that was like in real life. You're a very lucky man Ped and I am not jealous in the slight. Well, maybe a little.
I would take that over any modern supercar, stunning
you will pay more for this certainly...... $125,000 us dollars and thats pre fees, pre tax....
Yes it certainly is, I drove one at tockwith circuit for 3 laps and had to do another 3. Bloody amazing car.

That was a good email 😜😂
Good afternoon pal. Right from the off, a beautiful looking car. Stunner. 🥰🥰🥰😍😍👍
What can you say apart from absolutely stunning and it amazes me how they have kept the weight so low, you are a lucky man Pete 😁😁
I am indeed 😬
spectacular
That was awesome. Ford GT40 was my dream car as a young kid. I've always had a soft spot for them. Once I grew up I've always loved the AC Cobra. Its what I'd buy if I had the cash to make a completely frivolous vehicle purchase! Really hope I can look forward to a Cobra video too?
Width 70 in & height 40.5 in, super sweet car! #thumbsup
Bloody Marvelous!!!!
Indeed 👍
So that's what they called automobile 🥰 magnificent.
Hi Ped
Analogue for sure, and Bl….y beautifull🥰 You will never find an EV to equal the emotions of this continuation model. Long live the GT40.🍷🍷🍷
Normally exhaust sounds on RUclips don't come out very well as you well know ped, but the sound of that car was phenomenal, I could only imagine what that was like in real life. You're a very lucky man Ped and I am not jealous in the slight. Well, maybe a little.
Wait for the Cobra on Friday 👍
What a BEAST Pete 😮
Oh yes 🙌
How sweet it is love ❤️ it PP. 🥂🍾
Evening all, Hope everyone has a great weekend. Awesome and raw, very special. You definitely enjoyed that one Pete 👍
Sure did 👍
What a thing! Unfortunately, already sold the house to buy the simulator. Now living in the garage with my motorbike!
