- "The F-Type would be better with a stick." - All you people for the last 2 years.
Now we will finally find out what the stunning Jaguar F-Type is like to drive when you get to row your own gears! Matt takes the new 2016 V6S Manual Coupe on a blast through rural wooded Pennsylvania.
370hp manual is perfect in a road car ! Well done Jaguar
Save the manuals!
100PercentLuck buy one.
100PercentLuck Autos are just faster these days
not to mention Autos have the MPG advantage as well
Jonny Oliveira that made no sense.
2/10
SANIC That's because you have no idea what driving is other than playing Need for speed probably... that "2/10" is the kind of stuff used by geeks on gaming forums, and tells everything about you already
Manual gearbox is more fun and satisfying to drive... And sometimes Fun is more important that money
Jonny Oliveira ur comment is bad and you should feel bad
Reasons why nobody eats/drinks in my car: This video.
"Oh you guys out there would like this". Hell yes we would. Unfortunately 99% percent of us will never have the opportunity. I guess that is one of the reasons why these videos are fun to watch
45k is cheap to you? In today's world, people can barely pay their rent, let alone own a CAR.
Love the sound of the F-Type V6. Sounds very similar to the VQ in my G35!
Man this would be an amazing daily... so tempting. Manual for life!
Beautiful car, V6S was always the best engine choice! + manual 6 speed gearbox!!
Want to drive this car, SO BAD. Great video, Matt, as always. LOVE the sound it makes. Careful with that coffee!
Yeah, nice. Nothing like a manual, rear drive and a nice engine note. That car looks sweet.
I have big fat dumb, bread loaf feet." Couldn't stop laughing
Oooh my Coffee! Oooh no... Ooh the Coffee... it's in the cup holder now, oh no...
My favorite part.
I like how fanatical Americans are about manuals in sports cars. In Europe, it seems to be exactly the wrong way around, namely stick shifts in normal cars and automatics in sports cars.
Yeah I don't get it either.
You want the engaging transmission in sports cars. Only thing I’d want with an auto is either a luxury sedan, a track oriented car, or something with a ton of power. In America, no one except old people and a car people know how to drive a manual though so vast majority of cars are auto here. Especially econo cars
I just spend hours watching you videos! Not subscribing would have been a crime! Keep up the amazing work!
that looks so awesome to drive
LastHumansGarage on the run back, i could tell it was 60fps, it was very jumpy for me. maybe my laptop just can't run the video smoothly..
LastHumansGarage
I have to drop it down to 720 and then it plays fine.
Jeff K same here
LastHumansGarage The crappy playback is a hardware issue. My laptop can only play up to 720P while my desktop can play 1080P no problem. Laptop is about 4 years old and the desktop was built last year. It will generally only do so when your GPU is being worked too hard, but I don't know your pc so that;s just a guess.
LOVE the new Jaguars
I love the way you guys are educating Americans about European cars especially the uniqueness of the British makers. Sadly ignorance abounds in the UK too, and like all great Petrol-head love affairs, it's a two way thing! I've been trumpeting the superb CTS-V and Fabulous Mustang GT's, we're just beginning to see in the UK! BTW. You guys blow Top Gear out of the water, (oh, erm, no! That's a bit of a low bar to set now!)
Matt these videos just get better every time! Keep them coming! Would like to see some UK stuff!
The E-Type's successor has finally arrived.
Good guy Jaguar. Definitely making a comeback.
"It doesn't rev-match for you. You have to do it yourself, and that's the way I like it."
Amen. The lack of rev matching would me a major selling point for me.
Absolutely nothing wrong with the sound that car makes!
PS Mathew, you better have cleaned up after yourself!
Like the split screen while test driving
The red one at the beginning is my ideal f type spec (including the manual gearbox)
Matt, you must like this model, seeing as it's your third Smoking Tire episode devoted to the F-Type. The coupe version you drive here is prettier but I'd prefer a roadster because a drop top is more in the British sports car tradition. All the other specs for the car you’re driving - supercharged V6, RWD, 6-speed manual - seem optimal.
In Jaguar's design language going back the to the D-Type, this car's “fuselage” approach results in too tight an interior for a guy your size. But at 5’10” 170 lb. it would fit me fine. Your brief drive informs me the car has more than adequate real world power, and it communicates well with the driver thanks to good feedback through the steering, and smooth shifting via the 6-speed manual ZF transmission.
Back in my 20s I owned an E-Type so am aware of the vices as well as the virtues of that classic. This V6/manual version of the F-Type seems a worthy successor, and I salute Jaguar for offering the correct configuration, while no doubt aware they will never recover their development costs. This is the one the motor heads will want and there aren’t many car buffs in the younger generation. But for a savvy buyer, I predict this car will become a collector's item and an excellent long term investment.
I’m an old motor head now and drive an earlier XJR. To me, the car Matt's driving is in the finest Jaguar tradition. It's beautiful, real-world fast, and something you can live with day to day. It’s the most appealing of the new generation of Jags, and one of the very few modern examples of the traditional sports car.
The Brits have their own approach to the sports car and this model seems faithful to it. In terms of desirability it holds its own against anything offered by the Germans and the Italians. I applaud Ratan Tata of Tata Group who rescued Jaguar and Land Rover from near bankruptcy a decade ago and invested billions in the long-term resurrection of these brands.
Tata's investment saved some 14,000 jobs in Britain. Management, design, engineering and manufacturing remain all-British - and current models like this one show Tata's gamble is paying off. The newly introduced all-electric Jag SUV Is a hit with the critics, and rumor has it that the upcoming electric full-sized XJ sedan is going to be be spectacular.
With a future expected to be dominated by self-driving electric plastic pods, we can only be encouraged by the comeback of a manufacturer of driver's cars in every sense of the term.
HEY MATT NICE JACKET BRO ! KEEP IT UP
The coffee spill made me bust up laughing. Thanks for the laugh Matt.
How did I miss this video!?!?!?!?! This car is a pretty serious contender for me in the near future, it is my personal favorite spec for the F-type. Now back to the video, I hope he liked it lol....
I looked at one of these at the Tulsa auto show yesterday, 380 HP out of supercharged V6, seems it would be more fun to drive than the Stingray, Sounds really nice...
Manual for life.
A nice car, thanks for the upload Matt
I would love to get this, but living in DC and likely going to San Diego next I just dont want to deal with a manual in traffic. If I lived in the country then absolutely, but the fun you have on country roads becomes work in the city.
Thank you I've been trying to find videos of the manual version
curious as to where in pennsylvania this video was shot.
- a Penn State student and huge fan!
William Levine we stayed at the Lodge at Woodloch lake
i need this car
bloody brilliant! go jag!
beautiful back roads!
my life goal is to convince my dad to grab one of these in a few years when they come down a bit. even if i only get to drive it once thats enough for me
You could also rent one
***** Better yet, wait 5 years and the price will tank since they are Jags.
Kevin Smith And even with a price "tank" in 5 years, you still could not afford one...But maybe in 5 years you could afford either a Honda Civic or Hyundai Genesis, complete with riced-out fart can.
***** for the quality they are not too expensive, but for a car 100 000 dollars is a lot
***** i have an xj which cost 117 000 dollars when it was new. yes, that's a lot...
Such a beautiful car..
Matt... Where in Pennsylvania were you? Or are you?
***** well this was about three weeks ago, but this was somewhere called Woodloch?
Nice car.
You look like white run dmc with that jacket lol
Or Taz
I love the sound. I know they're completely different engines and probably sounds a lot different in person, but through the mic, under hard acceleration, I'm hearing a lot of Porsche flat 6. Matt, am I crazy?
Closer to a R34 Skyline than Porsche, but a very pleasant sound indeed
do you put the v1 in the manufacturer cars? i could never whip like that without countermeasures haha
Good thing I can't afford one, cause I really really want the manual and RWD, and even those centered tailpipes on the V8 version, for the gnarly exhaust note alone
Does this meet the Matt Farah coffee cup holder test.
Did the F-Type come in a V8 in the USA at one time? Or was it only over seas
Stephen Hill it comes with a choice of three engines: 340 HP V6, 380 HP V6, 550 HP V8
Aston Martin Dominated last decade, Jaguar is dominating this decade which is true to form, the Jag that comes after is always better
HELPMEIDUNNOHOWTOUSE
Its a good thing Jaguar is much closer to being an affordable car.
Matt your so awesome man love your videos
I WANT ONE!!!
Come back to PA in that RWD in about mid January and see how you like it xD. I live in PA and i would get the AWD because I'd never be able to drive in it winter if it wasn't. Love the F-Type, defiantly one of my favorite cars right next to the Gallardo.
they make winter tires for a reason.
Lol, this past winter we got ~5 feet of snow in 36 hours. Keep in mind our county decided to not salt the roads before hand so the roads were not driveable for even a 4x4, until about day 3 after the snow. Sorry bud, on most roads in PA during winter would stop that car even with winter tires before it could move a foot (mostly because we have the worst roads in the nation but meh).
Vortical Oatmeal you should watch some rwd w/snow tires videos on youtube. a 4x4 is not an excuse for running all seasons in the winter. I bet that's what you are running, aren't you?
I have watched videos of RWD cars and winter tires in "snow". Which apparently means well kept highways to most youtubers which have been de-iced and are free of snow, and are now just wet. Where I live, the snow will not be moved that quickly and often times the snow is above the bottom of most coupes and sedans. Also, of course I would run all season tires year round. Tires are way to expensive and I'm not paying that much for something I don't need. I'm driving slow anyway if it is snowy.
Aren't you getting a manual in your Aston?
Is this the perfect F type Oh Hell Yeah
0:25 +ThesmokingTire
What type of License plate is that.. DEALER? MANUFACTURER? TRANSPORTER?
wow these roads are beautiful to drive fast cars :)
NOOO THE COFFEE!!!!
I just like how he keeps saying, "Like a BMW, it's like a BMW." You sir deserved to spill your coffee. Hah
I think the hydraulic system helps the car load better when breaking on corners
The real question here is: did Matt clean the cup-holder after that run or nah? I need to know...for reasons
Matt if you were to get an italian exotic right here right now what woulf you get? Details too please :)
A 458 spider
do you have a playlist of all the f types you have driven
yep i was waiting for that clutch ride. every video ive seen of anyone driving this car did the exact same thing, but I do commend you for going so long before doing it.
Thanks for listening, Jaguar. I can like your car now....Almost. Why no V8 with the manual?
TheSmokingTire Appreciate the 60fps
What color RED is that? Caldera red or Italian Racing red. I must know!!
did you have a cold in this?
Does this car suffer from the same problem as the v8, where it is nice and loud, but it never shuts up when you want it to?
Quiet mode in the V6 is reasonably quiet. I've only used it once.
Do people not overtake in America?
Coobyliscous Double yellow line means its not allowed. Dashed yellow means passing is allowed
So what's the verdict TheSmokingTire ? Would you have the V6 with the stick, or V8 with the auto box? Anything in your spidey senses make you think they'll look at a manual for the V8 next year? Also, any idea why the decision not to make a manual V8? I'm guessing it would have to do with making a second transmission to handle the power of the V8 and forecasted sales numbers not justifying that?
Eric H I would have the V6S Coupe with a stick. They don't have a manual gearbox that will hold the power of the V8, and the cost of developing one wouldn't yield the returns.
TheSmokingTire Figured that was the case. Thanks.
Man's trans! I love it! No girly paddles!
Does it cost less than the auto 8speed ZF?
one of the ONLY cars i've ever thought looked even half-way decent with black wheels. it may be the red that's doing it. IDK. anyway, beautiful in profile, 3/4 rear and dead-on rear. the front, not so much. probably the multiple vents. seeing one recently, i was surprise how big, overall, it was. one rarely sees such a large two-seater. that's not a complaint, BTW.
I will be buying the shit out of this in a few years once the price bottoms out to around $30k-ish
What gear box is in the car?
First time I took a drink in my F-Type it immediately spilled everywhere. Luckily it was water. 😂
I like this
it's 2020... still the one I want. Hope they won't go up in value...
was the coffee ok? D:
You'd buy the V6 over the V8 just to get the manual box.....Why don't they make a manual V8? And the Six Sounds Good.
Based on the many reviews of the V6 S, it seems most reviewers think this is the better, more usable choice for the F-Type. Plus, it's the only way to get RWD and a manual. To my mind, it's a no brainer. I've never suffered from horsepower envy, so I couldn't care less about the numbers. All I care about is the driving experience and seat of pants feel, and this V6 S is the winner. It's absolutely the one I'd choose.
dew said that lady need to shut up n said you feel me lol dew hood
Why the wrong car in the thumbnail?
I feel ya bro
that totally looks like the road up to Big Bear.
It seems to me that you Americans (apart from driving on the wrong side of the road) actually do not drive manual gear box cars.
You are going way too fast down that road, all it takes is one person to pull out in front of you and it's DOA. Save the manuals.
I'm trying to get an F type. Should I get the v6 or v8?
You'd never use the V8's full potential but it's cool to have and hear. You can only get the manual in the V6, you can floor the V6 more often and ring it out, cheaper for the same look, better gas mileage just to put it out there.
gianni Antonelli well you can get a f type r 2014 for about 60k in England so that's about the same price as a new v6.
Matts always pissed at motorists just trying to enjoy a scenic route lol, theyre not doing that to piss you off man...cheers from south africa
Andrew Shulman No, but they should be paying attention to their rearview mirror. An attentive, considerate driver knows what's going on around them. When a faster car comes up behind me on the motorway or on a canyon road, when it is safe, I pull out of the way and let them by. Cars that drive for miles on end with no idea there is a car right behind them trying to get by and no attempt to allow that car to pass is what pisses me off, not that they are just trying to enjoy scenery. And if they do see me and don't let me pass, that's even worse.
And by the way, this was filmed at like 645 in the morning. No one is sight seeing, these are local commuters.
TheSmokingTire I mean, it's one thing in the canyons, where there are shoulders and such. But I can see why someone who's commuting doesn't want to pull over and delay their day because you're doing 60+ in a 35. I like watching the videos, and I'm a fan, but I just don't think spirited driving deserves ambulance/emergency vehicle treatment.
TheSmokingTire I think the canyon drive is totally different than the road you were on for this video. I wouldn't expect ppl to pull over on that type of road. As you know since you live out that way, the canyons probably have that rep for canyon driving and ppl(most) will oblige if possible. I have a stretch of roads I drive to let my car loose for a bit, however; it's also a high drive area for its' access to biking/hiking/and wineries. It sucks, because of all the turns, and sweeping turns to let my car and my self have fun, but seem to get stuck by someone who don't drive over speed limit. So, I have to pace myself or go somewhere else(which usually ends up being the same). Just think win some and lose some.
If I was that loser in the Envoy I would have for sure pulled over...especially so I could check out dat ass on the F-type.
SoSickWidit ok....
probably just me but from inside the cabin it sounds like an e46 with supersprint exhaust lol.
Sounds slow whats the whp
In 600 feet, turn right. Turn right.
FINALLY!!
Joe's car, from JKF.
so the question is would you buy an F-Type over a Corvette C7? Its hard but I would have to say yes. anyone else agree??
No contest.
Your speed limits are so low.....here in Ireland that'd easily be a 80 km/h (50mp/h) road, maybe even 100 km/h www.irishcarrentals.com/images/speedlimit.jpg .
Random question and forgive me if it makes me look like a bit of twonk for not knowing this but does anyone do a manual gearbox that can change it's gear ratio's? The ZF (auto with paddles) in mine shortens the gear ratios in dynamic mode an all that jazz, why can't a manual do the same? Surely there's a way so if you get out on track you can have longer gears for a bigger track with large straights or if you're on a twisty one you can get them shortened n bring down that 0-60 time :P I was surprised that this went back to 5.1 0-60 with the manual tbh. I thought it would have come in a shade under that. It's amazing how many cars in the 300 - 380hp range all have 5.1 as a time with a manual box. I know it's not the most important factor in a car especially on track but it's a stat and people like to quote stats lol!
Chris Dorgan The ZF automatic does not shorten the gear ratios in dynamic mode. It changes the throttle response and shift pattern, but the gear ratios are fixed.
The only gearbox that can change ratios is a CVT continuously variable transmission, but really those have no fixed ratios at all, but more like infinite ratios. Many hybrid cars use them. Our company's Fusion Hybrid has it and it's weird accelerating but the engine RPM pretty much stays the same.
Overdrive just means the input/output shaft gear ratio is lower than 1:1. Gear ratios do not change in a gearbox with individual discreet gear combinations or "speeds".
Patrick94GSR Wish we could split gears in street cars. Have both long ratios and short ratios haha.
Daniel Mirzotti
semi truck gearbox... low range of 6 gears and then high range with 6 more gears lol. :-P
just mod the pulley get more boost and then cut out all the flab and you'll be left with a sports car
lol not a morning person huh Matt?
Don't drink and drive.
Except on long road trips.
I think Gandhi said that first.
lol! on the coffee!
pass on a blind turn if theres someone in front of you
The poor cupholder
