That's interesting Joe, I always thought that the mound behind the church was an ancient burial mound. I never knew that it was the site of a castle. I will have to read up on my local history. All the best..
That's odd...I was just looking at a photo taken entering Bures Station from just behind the driver of a diesel railcar...the Colne Valley Line. I must return (as I did not alight at Bures...1960s!).
My Sealey ancestors lived in Bures until around 1912. My nan being baptised in that church and her father pumping the church organ as a lad,. They lived down Water Lane,. I have stayed in the old coaching house opp the church
