Robin, I met you one lovely Amsterdam late afternoon playing gypsy jazz with your group back in summer of 1995 in a beautiful large square to a nice audience of grateful onlookers. Your playing was awesome back then and so it is today. A great memory and great to hear you playing together with Howard Alden. Bravo!

Really golden advice, particularly about finding the core in the 3 & 4 so you can grab counterpoints and create interest with the outer strings - and breaking up practice sessions to stay fresh and maximize retention.

I love this!!!👍 you guys are swinging so good!Robin! 👍 Sweet guitar licks !! This is helping me pull my mood up after having covid for the third time...!!🎶I've listened to this several times before! I first came across Howard back many years ago because of the sweet lowdown movie! And ironically or subsequently that's how I found out about Django Reinhardt and I've been involved in jazz music all my life and had not really heard of Django.. this would have been around the year 2001.. 🎶🐦 so thank you Woody Allen and Howard!

Robin, I just found this video, wow, what a legend to be sitting with, Howard Roberts protégé Howard Alden. Howard Roberts, was/is one of the non - gypsy players I love. Its a shame he didn't live long enough to play with any of the great gypsy players. His son Jay is a fantastic player who has played with Howard Alden, but never any gypsy players. It be great to get Jay out to play with the Gypsy jazz players, that I know of. Since getting into Gypsy Jazz, for me anyway, I feel the gypsy players solo's sound better than the regular jazz players. Its got nothing to do with technical proficiency either, I just feel the Gypsy way of phrasing, and the way they frame their solo's are just more musical. In terms of feeling I get WAY more out of the gypsy's. This doesn't apply to the older greats I've always loved, like Joe Pass, Howard Roberts, etc, although, on some songs, it does apply. Great video thx.

Ahh beautiful. A Nolan/Alden CD is way overdue and hopefully in the works some day. I remember watching you two play several years ago in Seattle following Djangofest. You guys were amazing then and you're amazing now. A very special chemistry exist there. I hope to hear much more. (And of course, the comments from Howard are golden and inspiring!). Thanks for posting this!

Mr. Aldens musicianship is great. t the same time he should rethink his rhythmplaying. Robin could give him some tremendous hints how to play rhythm guitar in gypy jazz properly.

great rendition of Djangology however mr nolan immediately began rushing when comping which greatly detracted from the listening experience
