lowkey if he played the whole season the way he played the past 15-20 games he could. not that he played bad in th beginning he just bugging out right now lol
2 more things about Bane which have helped his improvement this season imo are: 1. His pump fake is legitimately one of the best in the league, he's shooting 48% on 1 dribble jumpers and a lot of them are after his pump fake which is super effective. 2. During this years summer league he averaged 24 PPG on 48.8% from the field and 69.2% from 3 (No, it wasn't a typo lol) the Grizzlies gave him primary ball handler responsibilities in the Summer league and his off the dribble game and ball handling ability improved a lot in this stretch imo. I also feel like this summer league stretch is the reason they got so much coonfidence in Bane and started him as soon as the season began and gave him so many ball handling duties which have played a massive part in his improvement this season! W video per usual
I've said this to people ... people told me I was crazy for being happy we drafted him because he was "not gonna do much in the league " I won 300 bucks betting a buddy that this year he would average 15 and shoot 40 40 90 ...this man is literally a bigger Eric Gordon with better shooting from deep and 3 and more athletic
This is why the Grizz basically gave Grayson Allen away. To make room to give the younger Bane more shots. Grayson was coming up on an extension, and earned it, so the Grizz did him a solid and kept him in the Popovich family tree (Snyder->Jenkins->Budenholzer). Bane can shoot, defend, and is on the 2nd year of his 4 year rookie deal.
@@1utube01 you're right, Dillon is on a bargain deal. And I'm a Canadian so I'll always root for him. But Desmond Bane needs as many touches and shots as possible. Dillon might get in his way
@@karimw.9954 Haha, I get it, he can be low efficiency. Look, we called him Dillon Bricks his first 3 seasons. But he is such a culture definer after Crowder and Solomon Hill left. And I think he can work well with Bane, especially since few Grizz play more than 30 minutes often. When Ja got injured, Bane mentioned he and Dillon committed to making extra sacrifices until Ja returned, so they seem to have at least a slight comraderie. I feel like you guys could find better he’s cool but i don’t think it’s enough to really win . Honestly this might be a downfall for y’all organization the team is so good and is going up so fast that now you can’t build through the draft anymore I was really hoping the grizzlies weren’t good this year so you could possibly land a jabari smith in the draft I feel like a player like that is a true compliment to ja
future all star for sure! great breakdown. one thing you mentioned i dont hear anyone else talk about, in a good way at least, is his negative wingspan. like you said it seems to not be effecting him defensively like scouts thought, but you said it. His negative wingspan is definitely a positive for his shooting. i feel like its basic science and physics. his arms are shorter allowing him for less chance of bad motions that would mess up the shot. also like you said he has a great pump fake, which when he performs it you can see he stays nice and compact and his arms don't flare. this is another reason why his pump fake is effective. casuals who dont know basketball dont understand it is actually pretty hard to perform a decent pump fake and effectively still be in the proper form to shoot the next shoot without being out of control or unbalanced. me, being a good shooter myself can attest to that. you got yourself a new subscriber tho, especially if you break down more Bane lol
He's phenomenal. There's a video out there of a pre-draft workout where he shoots 43 makes in a row beyond the arc w/o a miss. His arm must have been tired by number 44 because he just laughed off the miss. He's gotten even better after his summer league play before this year started. Theirs is the most exciting team in the NBA paired w/ Ja and company.
I was at the Clippers vs. Grizzlies game a few days ago and I said man... who is this dude killing the clippers... i mean KILLING... he was pulling shots that you only pull when you know you hot.. feeling real good... I said ok... i know who you are now sir. respeck. lol
Even more ironic about the Boston/Bane trade was that Boston had the Grizzlies' pick that year from the Jeff Green trade in 2011. That pick was hyped up for years as being a blue chip trade asset, a sure-fire top 10 pick - to the point that Ainge wouldn't even include it in a package for Paul George or Jimmy Butler the year prior. Turns out the Grizzlies rebuild was over faster than anticipated, and that ended up being the last of the lottery. The Celtics took a what looks like a bust in Aaron Nesmith, and then proceeded to trade away the steal of the draft to the Grizzlies for two second round picks. Ouch!
I knew that night that Ainge made huge mistakes. I wanted Bane, Celtics needed a knock down shooter who wasn't under 6 feet tall and Bane fit the bill nicely slipping that deep in the draft, everybody knew Bane would be productive but teams wanted more potential in their picks but the celtics had so many picks they could've easily taken a couple "low ceiling high floor" type players like Bane but instead took Payton Pritchard who is ok but won't ever be much cuz he's like 5'11 and just gave Bane away for nothing cuz they wanted to keep Semi fucking Ojeleye on the roster, that's right, out of the league Semi Ojeleye was more important than getting Bane on the bench. Drafting Nesmith I knew was a mistake because of the log jam of SG/SF on the teem and no PF at all, I wanted Saddiq Bey since he was a strong 6'8 and had a good 4 year college career while Nesmith just had a flashy 14 game stretch where he got hot his sophomore year.
Probably the biggest draft misfire by the Celtics in a long while, especially considering why he was traded. I kinda have a feeling that Bane would have the same problems that Nesmith has in the Celtics right now, but of course I have no way of knowing this'd be the case.
One thing I noticed is his number as well. For some reason anyone who wears the number 22 for the grizzlies always ends up becoming somewhat of a shooter. It happened with Rudy Gay, then Matt Barnes, and now Desmond Bane. Its superstition BS but its working.
Dude he looks like bane from Batman! Guy is ripped. He looks like a running back. Now during the playoffs, ja and Desmond switched roles. Desmond is the scorer now. He is a completely different player. I think he is better than ja.
