    • @Walt_Xander94
      @Walt_Xander94 9 лет назад +7

      +Allie-RX That would've been worse. At least Rare made some *different* titles under MS, before that Rare Collection came around. If Nintendo bought Rare, they would've milked the fuck out of Banjo-Kazooie alone, all for nostalgia & nothing else, just like Nintendo milks their own 30 year old titles for nostalgia.

      Floris Lans
      I'm guessing you're one of those people that complain about the remasters the PS4 & X1 get. Yet, you're defending Wind Waker HD. I understand why Nuts & Bolts sucked, but after that game, that was it, MS didn't try to milk Banjo-Kazooie. If Nintendo bought Rare, things would've been a hell of a lot worse.

    • @Lanselot2069
      @Lanselot2069 9 лет назад +5

      i actually don't really mind remasters. i understand wat dev's are trying to do, (or companies). like it or not, games cost money.
      a lot of remasters happen because greedy people at greedy companies want more of that money. the point i was trying to make with wind waker HD, is that milking a game or franchise isn't always a bad thing. it's the way in which you milk it that make it good or bad. nobody asked for wind waker HD, but it happened and it was excellent( reviews, my opinion isn't important here) fans of banjo kazooie had been asking for a sequel for YEARS, and when it happened, well, nuts and bolts happened.
      companies like EA and microsoft try to milk nostalgic games for profit but fail in the nostalgia department. (sadly, a lot of these games sell well, look at rare replay. no goldeneye or donkey kong though. hmmm...). i'm not saying nintendo isn't doing this as well. hell, they have basically released EVERY zelda EVER on the wii shop wii u shop and e shop. (if not an entire remake like majora's mask). i'm only saying nintendo does it well. and yes. if nintendo ever buys rare, they will milk all of rare's old games. no doubt there, but at least they will milk it with dignity.
      (that sounded weird)

    _Nuts and Bolts_ was an insult, not only to Banjo-Kazooie, but to the fans. The game starts with you controlling Banjo, who has since gotten fat from having not gone on any adventures in eight years, and it seems like it's going to be like the old games until this "Lord of Games" character appears and says, "no, gamers don't want to play games like this anymore", and changes it into the utterly forgettable tripe that it was. It's like the game was literally voicing the thought process of the executives, and telling us, the consumers, what _we_ wanted. Fuck you, Rare.

      They had Rare cancel Dinosaur Planet and then rework it for GameCube with Fox McCloud in place of Sabre, the original protagonist of DP. For some reason, like the Kong family and King K. Rool, Krystal is Nintendo property, despite being created by Rare.

    Did the PS1 really perform that much better in the market than the N64 at the time ? Nowadays I rarely come across anything related to the ps1, N64 stuff is much more common and plentiful to find... at least for me anyway.

    • @Dacho_Shaki
      @Dacho_Shaki 9 лет назад +19

      +AlienMyth64 Yeah actually it did lot better than N64. PS1 actually had the majority of third party developers to make the game for them and they were holding more than a half of the market share in the 5th generation. The problem is that even if the console itself is common to find there are games that are unfairly priced and can go up to 500$ used. Klonoa itself on ebay is a perfect example of being over-priced. PS1 discs are basically made of CD media. They're worthless. I wouldn't charge more than 20$ for those games despite the rarity. Cartridges themselves are worth 10 times more than discs because putting game data on discs is more cost effective for publishers.

    I agree with everything, besides two things: GBG actually was a cute game. Not a old-school Rare level master-piece, but still surprisingly enjoyable. The second thing would be about SoT which actually looks quite promising. I like the idea of user created content in a pirate setting and the art style is quite unique. So let's hope for the best before raging about it please!

    • @Walt_Xander94
      @Walt_Xander94 9 лет назад +1

      +ADE Marc Alexander Too bad Sea Of Thieves isn't an exclusive. Its coming for PC as well, so there's no point in buying an X1 for it. Then again, why did it have to be a Pirate game? Sure, I like Pirate games, and there's not a whole lot where you can play with other people, sail ships, attack other ships, etc., but Rare hasn't made a new title years. They get to make a new title after so long, and its a Pirate game, an MMO with user-created content, which I'm sure *tons* of MMORPGs already do. Why couldn't it be a creative racer instead? Why couldn't a creative 3D platformer instead? Oh wait, ex.Rare developers are already doing that with Yooka-Laylee.

    • @MacBamboocha

      TheGameKeeper94: Dude, no. Bad fanboy is bad! Don't even start, because I don't fucking care. I'm a PC-gamer, just as an info, and if it's good I'm getting it from Steam. So please don't be a child and start stupid console wars... *I beg you!*
      The discussion is about *Rare* and not exclusivity or Xbox, or PC, or PS4. And yes, YL looks freaking awesome as well. However that doesn't mean I can't respect the work shown so far from another developer.

    • @Walt_Xander94
      @Walt_Xander94 9 лет назад +2

      ADE Marc Alexander
      I'm not starting anything. The X1 desperately needs exclusives, and a game from Rare, certainly would've helped. But no, MS is releasing *another* X1 game, on PC, so its no longer an exclusive. I'm just saying, there's no point in getting an X1, for Sea Of Thieves, because there's an alternative, especially for PC users like you.
      Also, I doubt Sea Of Thieves will be all that special anyway. There's already tons of games with user-created content, and the art style isn't really unique. The game doesn't scream Rare, you know? So far, it doesn't have anything that made Rare, what it once was. It looks *less* like a Rare game, and more like something that Ubisoft could've done for Assassin's Creed IV.

    • @MacBamboocha
      @MacBamboocha 9 лет назад

      TheGameKeeper94 If you want a Rare like game get YL, MS Rare has nothing to do with the real one. I've accepted that long ago, the rest is subjective.
      For the rest, so what? Can you get it for PS4? No, you can't. Also you think I - or the big majority of PC gamers - would buy a Xone just because of the exclusive titles alone? They might be for one or two games, but honestly the majority after finishing them are going to sell the systems, because it's not there preferred periphery or style of playing. I'm wouldn't even get a Xbox for Halo 5, which seems to finally be a good Halo game again since Reach. Same goes for Nintendo of course, and I'm a sucker for SSB! Likewise the PS4 - which besides Persona 5 really doesn't has any _new_ exclusive I care about.
      Not to mention that MS is already making a lot of new IPs, however keep in mind we're talking about MS, not Xbox. Windows for them is just another platform like the 3DS is for Nintendo and they are going to push Windows 10 as a gaming tool, and rightfully so. Halo Wars 2 is official for example and it will come out on Windows Marketplace. Saying this are not real exclusive because you can get it outside of the console world to me is nonsensical. It only makes sense if you play regularly on both platforms which almost nobody does...
      And yes, you're are starting a debate! What the hell has the exclusivity of SoT to do with the actual quality of the game? Who gives a fuck were you can play it or not? Why do you care if I think it _MIGHT_ be a good game?
      Honestly I don't even care, sorry mate, but I'm out! I'm too old for this shit. I couldn't stand it during the PSone era and I certainly can't do it now.

    • @Walt_Xander94
      @Walt_Xander94 9 лет назад +1

      ADE Marc Alexander
      Titles that are on a console & PC, really *aren't* exclusives. The point of an exclusive, is to be only on *one* platform, to make people buy a certain platform for a certain game you cant get on any other platform. But when games like Sea Of Thieves, will be on X1 & PC, its not a real exclusive, because people *can* buy it on another platform. Calling games that are available on more than platforms, exclusives, is nonsensical.
      I mean really? Just because MS wants to force that Windows crap, instead of focusing on getting their own console to sell just as the PS4, that means games like Sea Of Thieves, are still exclusives? They're not.
      And since Sea Of Thieves is on PC, as well as X1, that really would affect the overall quality, mostly for the PC version alone, considering how many buggy ports PCs tend to get.

      Mayles worked with the Stampers since the 80's. Do you really think they would develop harsh feelings because Mayles took over a position that Stamper didn't even want anymore?
      This whole video adopts the false idea that Rare just forgot how to make games when they worked with Microsoft, which is totally immature and fanboyish.

    It's impossible to re-capture the spirit of the old games from the 90's, because the era in which that "spirit" lived is long gone. Back in the 90's, no one had the internet as it exists today; no online shopping, gaming, or connecting with friends. Kids still actually played outside and talked to their friends in the physical world. If school or life in general sucked, there was no facebook, reddit, or anything else to whine about it on. Television viewing was a precise art; you needed to time your daily chores and obligations TO THE PRECISE SECOND, so that you'd have enough time to turn the TV to your favorite show (there was no Netflix, DVR or whatever the hell else people use these days, there was only the arcane art known as "VCR Recording").
    Life in the 90's was much simpler and less cynical and jaded like it is now, so when you got up early on a saturday morning, your belly full of frosted flakes as you watched Spiderman, X-Men, Power Rangers, etc, you actually appreciated it. The magical feel of being one of the only people awake at the time, when the only TV in the house was all yours, and the sun was just barely beginning to shine through the curtains, is indescribable. Then you might have turned to your beloved N64 and popped in Mario Kart 64, Donkey Kong 64, etc, just having an absolute blast playing on the wave of the future, which, back then, seemed so bright and hopeful.
    The only way to "re-capture" the feeling of nostalgia is to turn yourself back into a child, erase your memory, and have someone create an elaborate illusion that makes you believe it is still the 90's. The best thing any game developer can do is to create something new and exciting, not constantly being that guy who regales you with stories of that one time he was "cool". To say "hey, we gave you some great times when you were a kid, now it's time to move on to bigger and better things, so that we can all grow together, instead of further apart. The mission of imparting what we once were to the next generation falls to you. Good luck." Appreciate the past, and make the future as bright as possible. That's the only way to go, in my opinion.

      +S.A.M. The present is good too.Cartoons have probably never been better then the 2010s. I'd say 2010s cartoons beat 90s cartoons and the 90s had The Disney Renaissance at the movies and Batman, Animaniacs and Tiny Toons on TV so that should give you an idea of the magnitude of that compliment. Adventure Time, Gravity Falls and Steven Universe all stand head and shoulders above the best of BTAS at times and are still top-tier the rest of the time.

If the bosses in charge want a game a certain way, they will fire staff that are not on board with that goal - plain and simple. Umm... actually, both Kinect and Kinect Sports sold like a hot cakes. Kinect Sports remains being the best selling Rare game to date (over 6 million copies). Are you being entirely honest here about being honest here?
    Why do people always ignore Viva Piñata while talking about today's Rare? It sold well (1.3 million copies of the first game), got great reviews, won plenty of awards, spawned a dedicated fanbase just like classic Rare titles did and just screams Rare. Why do so many people end up overlooking it? Just because of it's kiddy looks? It's not like pretty much every single Rare game looks childish...

    • @HowardAnthC

      +Lemur Dawid
      Probably because you are wrong on that. Kinect Sports came with the sensor for free, so those aren't valid sales. You can't accurately gauge the sales of Wii Sports either for the same reason. That being said Wii Sports Resort sold almost as well as the original and it wasn't a pack-in while future Kinect games sold horribly. Also the Kinect device itself was a pack-in for later models of the 360.
      The thing you have to remember about the Kinect is the number of titles made for the accessory is just as important as the sales numbers. I'll give you the nes zapper as an example. How many NES zappers were sold? Millions upon millions. How many copies of duck hunt were "sold"? Again quite a few (if you ignore the fact that it's a pack-in). Was the zapper successful? Oh hell no. Only a dozen or so games supported it and of those games only a couple of them sold well and by the end of the console's life cycle it had been all but forgotten. Next generation they tried to rejuvenate with a new and improved accessory (super scope) and even though the accuracy of the device was much better everyone had moved on and nobody wanted it. Sound familiar? Yup.... exactly like Kinect.
