Akimoto takes on ONE Bantamweight kickboxing World Champion Capitan Petchyindee for the gold at ONE X on 26 March! Who you got? 🔥
Akimoto
Allow clinch and sweeps in kickboxing. It is effective and realistic in a real fight. Then the difference between kickboxing and muay thai would be that muay thai have teh elbows, slower pace and kick to the quads
@@kayjay8077 naw it's a different sport bro. If that's the case then allow grappling and takedowns too. Make it MMA
@@markmessi9020 Kickboxing and muay thai aren’t so different. They can be merged into one sport
Then muay thai would be more effective and realistic
Love seeing Kyokushin gettin some representation! Most don't know the early influence it had on the kickboxing world.
Kickboxing is karate. It was made to counter Muay Thai by the Japanese
Japanese kickboxing wouldn’t of existed without Muay Thai.
If there were elbows, this might be different
@@ola_eboda kickboxing is the mix of western style boxing and kyokushin karate that’s why u see a lot of kickboxers that throw a lot of boxing combinations have good hands fast and beautiful footwork and a arsenal of kicks
There’s many forms of Kickboxing to the point where it’s difficult to put them under a single umbrella. American Kickboxing is Boxing meets Karate. Japanese Kickboxing and Dutch Kickboxing have different origins and styles but they’re both Karate meets Boxing meets Muay Thai. And then there’s other styles that are sometimes addressed as Kickboxing like Sanda, Savate, even Muay Thai is sometimes called Thai Kickboxing.
@@YTPrule ur exactly right , I was actually wrong there for a minute this comment made me do a lil research and ur right there’s a lot of more kickboxing styles where they meet each other u know ur stuff man thanks for the info.
Akimoto's cardio is too good, those damn muscles, dude looks like he's straight out of some Japanese animes.
I found out a long time ago that lean aesthetic muscle means nothing in a mma fight. There's some phat phuckers that have a lot strength and endurance out there.
@@thetreekeeper143 Those fat people probably have lean muscle underneath. If you build your muscle bulky like weight lifters, you won't get much power but you get most power from fast twitch muscle which doesn't show as well.
@@thetreekeeper143 Lean muscle means something what are you talking about. Research lean muscles first before saying its nothing, all mma fighters have lean muscles that help them in every way in mma.
@@leem0401 the bro science is real in this comment section lmfao, "bulky muscles" and "fast twitch muscle"??
@@leem0401 ik what it is but thinking that you can distinguish those from "bulky muscle fibers" is straight up monday-at-the-gym bro science
2:42 that kick was BEAUTIFUL
You can hear the "whip" that kick generated
@@Ethozel Definitely. Tonna's brain would have activated screen saver if that had landed(!)
Great contest from two phenomenal martial artists 👏🏻
Yes it looks like Tekken or Street Fighter games
@@sashasiobud4793 jin kazama from tekken had ryu narushima kyokushin champion as the motion capture
@@sashasiobud47937:00 i agree, some moveset of akimoto was similar to kazuya mishima of tekken.
Akimoto is great, but you have to admire Tonna's fighting spirit. Only so much punishment someone can take, but it looked like he was fighting through some major pain.
Fr you can see he was worn the tf out before the 2nd round was halfway through, idk how he managed to find the strength to finish the fight
He is a beast
You fully right. First minute i thought he looks weak, but he isnt. Fighters heart. Respect.
That was a sick fight. I hope they have more Kyokushin fighters here since Kyokushin don't really get enough publicity.
Used to in K-1 when that was around back in the day
@@kenshiro7960 I remember karatekas in their sleeveless gi during K1. And of course blue eyed samurai, Andy Hug 👏👏👏👏
Tenshin nasakawa has a kyokushin background
Becuz it's kickboxing
I think they get too much publicity. The style is not pracitcal
When you take a Kyokushin fighter and put him in a fight with head strikes he is basically a kickboxer. Seido Kaikan comes from Kyokushin and K1 comes from Seido Kaikan.
They are basically kickboxers with armored bodies and fuckin hell kicks
@Abinanta Maheswara It depends on the tournament but usually no.
@Abinanta Maheswara they don't do in tournaments but they can train in the gym, most of Kyokushin praticioners mix It up with some kickboxing, specially If he want to compete in kickboxing or MMA.
What you seeing is only the sport aspect of Kyokushin, which is pretty much the only way Muay Thai is taught/trained today. Kyokushin is still a traditional martial art with kata, basics (kihon), it's own conditioning (old style conditioning), self defense aspects etc etc which all goes into building the fighter/practitioner along with the more modern sport aspects of training and cross training.
@@anandls1 yes of course. But MT has a lot of traditional aspects like the wai kru(kata), the crown, taking your trainer's or gyms name, the armbands and prayers as well as how the gambling odds change every round. There's also the age of the art and that it was used with weapons in combat by soldiers. It's very similar to karate as all martial arts are in a way similar. It's the art of war.
One style is not necessarily better than the other. It's the fighter of the style not the style of the fighter. Hence we have legends from all disciplines like Buakaw, Masato, Filho, Alerts, etc.
Wow what amazing heart from Josh Tonna .. kept going after Akimoto the whole time even after after being knocked down so many times. Both great fighters.
Ya know even though Josh Tonna lost what the announcer says was right. He took all the and still kept moving forward. That in and of itself is impressive. You can’t deny guy’s a beast
respect for Josh who never gave up until the final bell. A lot of other fighters would have just stayed down and quit, but he believed he could knock Hiroki out with one punch.
Japanese guy is so composed...build out of granite...slippery...killer kicks...great combos!
Looking real good!
Akimoto, the first time I saw him fight, has been a favorite of mine, his Karate kick arsenal is so good.
what a heart by tonna. Respect to both athletes.
that Josh Tonna guy could have quit so many times but he just kept going
thats true fighting spirit right there
The absolute raw fighting spirit displayed in this match is incredible.
Respect to Josh. That dude his heart. Akimoto is a badass.
Actually Kickboxing is Karate blend with boxing so when you do kickboxing you actually do Karate . His creator tetsuo yamada was a karate master and wanted to call it karate boxing. Kenji kurosaki the father of japanese kickboxing was a student of mas oyama (kyokushin founder)
True
That's more back in the day it's changed so much now
@@mmgx4895 Yea, now it's an umbrella term to basically include any MA with kicking and punching😆
Difieren mucho como para considerarlos una misma arte marcial.
@@christianrodriguez7749 estan vinculados, si te ves combates de Kickboxing en japon tu veras que los peleadores usar karate patadas, golpes y movimientos con golpes del boxeo tambien
Akimoto is in too good of shape and fights so relaxed which is a sign of someone that has fought a lot! GSP was also trained in Kyokushin which many consider the best karate style.
Yes
This match remained me the golden era of Japanese K1 matches with Buakaw, Sato and others great fighters.
They both are really tough, physically and mentally.
Respect to both Karate & Muay Thai.👍
Please say Kyokushin cause if you just say karate most ignorant people will think of shotokan point fighting lol
@@crisalcantara7671kyokushin is karate so stfu
@@camilopalma1223 yeah, we know you have to make that distinction avoid people being ignorant.
Akimoto's every motion is circular. What is required against him is continuous forward pressure and straight strikes. When Tonna did that, he gained the upper hand.
People don’t realize that more than anything it comes to how good the fighter is
I’ve never seen a good wing chun fighter win a fight
@@x-rohtrolls7130or any other style of Kung fu for that matter!
Even though that guy lost, he tanked some massive shots. Love kyokushin but the other guy held in there well. Tough as nails gotta respect that.
Akimoto looks so jacked but ripped for a flyweight. Pure lean muscle…
That kickboxer got a lot of heart…
Kyokushin is hard core stand up striking. A good portion of K1 heavyweights practised it
Kyokushin Karate training is even more brutal if not the same level of harshness than Muay Thai IMHO.😥
True
That kind of fight proves what I always thought about martial arts. There’s no better martial arts. There’s better fighter!
Akimoto is amazing but Josh is amazing as well. He kept pushing and pushing no matter what and its visible that he's a definision of a warrior
Well, sometimes people underestimate how strong kyokushin is. Their training is insane, apart from that their kicks are another level. These guys can kick you with every part of their legs, if they want. Nice fight.
No one in the martial arts community bashes kyokushin or whatever you said. Everyone recognizes it as powerful. They get knocked out easy cuz they don’t punch to the face, that simple
He is a quality athlete, he stops hitting when the opponent falls to the ground
Akimoto looks like a fitness model dude is ripped. They dont even look like the same weight class.
Kyokushin and Kickboxing goes hand in hand.
Yeah, because Kyokushin is the father of Kickboxing
Akimoto dominated the fight, obviously wins, used mostly kyokushin. However the fighting spirit of Tona is admirable, as well. It's his willpower and good training that he stood in the ring till end. 👍
Wow , What a fight of Champions.. respect to Tonna , who lived up to fight till end , after that Karate round house on belly section , that Hart Hard 🙏
I dont know anything about fighting, 90% of people here could probably knock me out in seconds, but i think this was a really solid fight. The guy in red really had a fighting spirit.
Beautiful work by Akimoto, but tremendous heart shown from Tonna!
One of the main principles of Kyokushin is strength. One has to condition the body till it becomes hard as a rock, unmovable and feels no pain.
Kyokushin is most brutal form of karate, full contact bare hands most game end up with knockout. They have avoided so far in olympics for same reason love seeing karate
Great fight, technique and heart from both fighters!
The advantage of Kyokushin fighter is that they embrace pain..
What a fight! Both are warriors!
아키모토 이 선수 기본기가 탄탄하고 강하네요 극진 스타일 .. 멋짐
It’s amazing to see both great fighters display their technique in an mma fight
Martial art war between Thai and Japan never ends
Kyokushin is a great style
Jeez Tonna is hard AF……man just doesn’t stop coming forward!!
Tonna brings the fight to the enemy every single match. Love watching that guy.
The best two martial arts in my opinion
heeey i know that guy! i briefly trained at Josh Tonnas gym in Canberra when i lived there for a short while. nice dude.
Which one??
@@davidjones8043 bruh it say josh tonnas
I really love the ONEFC commentators. They do a good job
That kick to body is not roundhouse kick
It’s mikazuki kick which karateka does using toe to hit liver. It’s far more destructive that roundhouse kick but few people use it cuz you can hurt yourself if you do it wrong.
Looked like a mae geri to me
Correct title .. kyokushin vs muay Thai .. (modern kickboxing fight)
Respect to Josh,tough guy,real Aussie
gotta Love Schiavello using the line “ripped, stripped and striated”, classic Voice
One of the best fights I've seen, good stand-up nice & clean, go Aussie go oy oy oy ❤️🤙
As a Kyoukushin practitioner myself for many years I am very proud to see the Japanese guy's performance. OSU!
Those kyokushin head kicks always scare the hell out of me. Sure they look sorta slow but they're so strong and come from waaaaay outside, so they're hard to see coming.
Kyokushin is very brutal since it is bare knuckle and while yes you can’t punch to the face you damn well can get your ribs broke from punches and jaw dislocated from those kicks
Salute to the Japanese warrior
and Big Respect to Australian warrior
The kyokushin guy fights a lot like Makhachev
I've fought mma and won an amateur state championship. Kyokushin is legit!
nice clean shot from the champion.great fight
Josh is an absolute warrior! The man doesn't back down.
One sweeping kick from a karateka is no joke!
Guy is mucled like a maiden's dream
Excellent fight, respect to both!
Crazy pace and output by these guys.
Josh showed some incredible heart in this fight he got knocked down and keeps getting up other people would have given up earlier
Kyokushinfighter kicks to the body are sharp and accurate. Osu
That was a great fight!
Watching this fight and knowing how good Akimoto is, makes me think that Flying Rooster's gonna be the champ soon with the way he destroyed Tonna
Would have liked to see some slow motion replays of those knockdowns, great fight.
youtube has a slowmotion button
@@TheMylittletony LOL yeah mate I know that! but it's a bit choppy so it's nowhere near as good as when it has been edited in, thanks though for trying to be helpful.
great fight, actually exciting to watch
That was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
Both are great fighters.
Kyokhushin is the best
Amazing battle!
Kyokhusin the real fighter
karate and kickboxing fighters usually have very similar styles
Karate in practice is pretty much kickboxing
@@tylerlynch2796 the other way around. American style kb comes from shotokan I believe. Dutch style comes from Kyokushin.

Amazing!
Funny thing is kyokushin karate is the origins of dutch style kickboxing.
RESPECT
Tonna definitely earned the “human sponge” title.
"The human sponge going back at it" gotta love ones commentary 😂
Wow akimoto doesn't even look tired at all.
That cardio
Has been running up mountains all year?
Gotta love kyokushin
People are saying karate doesn't work but if alot of people train in then it works
I would love it if ONE and the UFC did a collaboration. I truly believe ONE has better fighters.
🤣
finally some kyokushin
Great fight!
The guy who invented Kyokushin Karate used to wrestle bulls and chop their horns with his bare hands. Look it up on RUclips.
What a great fight bro
Kyokushin power 👊
that man is made of steel
