    I rode a train exactly like this a few years ago from Syracuse to NYC and I loved it. Much more comfortable than flying. Will also use it in the future for any long distance trips.

    This is pure nostalgia for me, when I was little, me and my brother would go to New York to stay with our grandmother for the summer and we would take these 24 hour Amtrak train rides each summer from Alabama to New York with her coming to ny and the train rides there were so peaceful and interesting, seeing the places we would pass by through the window, eating and conversating with each other at the diner, napping and waking up to the new scenery outside the window, I miss these, I’m 19 now and I’m going to be taking an Amtrak train there by myself for college and I can’t wait to relive the nostalgia.

    Quite well done! Inside is not claustrophobic at all, from what your footage shows. I was surprised to see how small the dining car is *on this train* (Silver Meteor?). I loved how you extended your foot to help us viewers visualize the size of the different spaces. Within five years, I'm traveling to FL via Amtrak -- will have to wait five years not because Amtrak is expensive, but because even the three-star Miami hotels are. BTW, cute selfie at the finish! :)

    Train is a great way to travel. More carry-on luggage, more personal room, easier to walk on, more relaxing, more enjoyable. Bus and plane you're crammed in and it's like your entering the CIA

      I don't enjoy being on an airplane, mainly for 2 reasons (takeoff/landing). While I'm happier to land, I'm more anxious to take off. Having said that, it's the entire experience at the airport that actually makes my nerves and anxiety a lot worse. If I could just get on the plane directly, I think I'd reduce my anxiety by a fair margin and have a much more relaxed experience. We can do bullet-speed trains but corporate greed and interests are getting on the way.

      Be warned, I dont know about the bus prices. From Miami to New York, a coach seat (Like the lady was sitting at in the video) cost $141.00 per Passenger. Bedrooms can run you up to $368.00 (EACH WAY). If you plan to ride with Amtrak soon id highly advice booking roughly 5-6 weeks in advanced for the best deal. If you have any questions Id love to help :)

This is the Silverstar 91, I believe, since you left NYC for FL, and my husband and I are taking this to Fl in April. This trip is one of the adventures on our "list of things to do when we retire". The last time I rode on an Amtrak train, laptops were only available to wealthy businessmen, "H" and "D" were just two letters in the English alphabet, car phones and _Sonic the Hedgehog_ were all the rage but cell phones had not happened yet, I saw _The Nightmare Before Christmas_ fresh on VHS, and Vice President Al Gore was busy inventing the Internet.
    ...I _really_ wanna ride a train again.

    • @SeaToby11
      @SeaToby11 10 лет назад +2

      Airlines are not comfortable. Your knees are into the seats in front of you, and there is no room whatsoever for your elbows. And if you are overweight your hips barely fit into your seat. Sardines have it better in their can than a person does in a airline seat.

    • @RennellReed
      @RennellReed 10 лет назад +2

      They always make you stay in you seat til they're airborn. On a train there is no fasin seatbelt sign. I'll be taking a train from Schenectady to Chicago in October. Flew to chicago in 2005 and could not get up and walk around. "Please be seated til we're parked at the gate". Train is so much more enjoyable.

    I did Ft. Lauderdale to Phila. once. The train stopped and picked up a black girl, in Georgia, that was going to Newark. She sat behind me, a Caucasian, and talked on her cell phone all nite. She repeatedly put her tray up & down, and kicked the back of my seat. I told her to stop, in the middle of the nite and she said, "make me." I went to the "black" conductor, and told him to move her. He totally ignored me. The car had a broken "on" air conditioner and when going to the dining car, the joining car boot leaked and the rain covered the pathway like a waterfall. Great job, Amtrak. Never again.

    The dining car is changing for good in 2020 on all east coast routes except for the Auto Train. The old dining car with cooking staff is going away, and they are replacing it with package meals because the costs have risen too fast to keep offering the restaurant the way it is. So if you want to experience that kind of dining experience on a long distance train, do it soon because it going away forever in November 2019 except on the Auto Train and western routes. www.eater.com/2019/9/23/20879839/amtrak-dining-car-end

Current schedule shows it arriving SLC at 1105pm and departing 1130pm westbound and arriving 305am and departing 330am eastbound if it is on schedule of course.

      + hong jin li Did you factor in the actual travel time to where you are going and the time needed to clear security at the airport? In the NE, just travel times puts the two on an even footing and the lack of the extra security hassle makes it a winner. Plus some cannot fly for medical reasons.

    I live in the middle of Upstate New York and I took the 200 mile journey down to NYC a few times, and once to Buffalo. I couldn't imagine being on that thing longer than only a few hours lol. I would go nuts.

    The train is really nice here. I've tken it from Birmingham to Washington D.C several times and I love it because you are not in a hurry. It amazes me however that a lot of people here in Birmingham don't realize that AmTrak come thru here and goes all the way to New York City......

    Train travel, amazingly, just dawned on me. Two places from Atlanta I would go is New York, and Miami. The cost for my family of four is a quarter of the airline rates. Obviously not near the headaches of dealing with airlines/airports, can check more baggage, and the adventure is more than the trade off of longer travel times. Plus I absolutely LOVE trains.

    I have flown in tight quarters on flights...hated it. I rode a Greyhound bus from NY to Orlando in even tighter quarters...hated that even more. I took AMTRAK several times. Plenty of leg room, outlets for devices, dining car, bar car. Even had a cool conductor who allowed us to stand between cars to smoke, only while in transit.

    Good God! You can take a jet and be there in less then 2 hours VS 24 hours sitting in that thing , I mean people must smell after that amount of time . And as far as sleeping goes ! how the hell do you sleep in a seat and what the hell do you do for almost 24 hours? what ! eat $15 nasty beef burgers??. And how about that miserable Amtrak employees yelling all Amtrak (Amtrash) employees are rude and ignorant and lazy.
    Until America puts in real high speed rail ...I’ll take a jet in First Class ....

    I am assuming you are traveling coach. For a few dollars more you can go business and I believe the meals are included in the price. Also if you got the family bedroom or any of the sleeper rooms the meals are included. Again if you have a sleeper you are entitled to use the lounge at the depots that have one. I WILL NOT fly. It is NOT right for someone to pat you down like you a criminal. Each car has it's own steward BTW. Eating in the dinning is the best part of the trip. You don't ever sit along. The booths are designed for 4 people. So if you are alone or a couple two or three other people who are strangers to you will assigned. This is way cool, you get to talk about all kinds of things folk from all over the country. Thanks for sharing you family trip!!!

    WOW! Thanks so much for sharing. I'm going to Atlanta GA from Philly next month on Amtrak. It looks far more comfortable than I imagined. Very accommodating. I think I'm going to enjoy.
