Have always been overwhelmed by the matcha choices and have steered away from matcha for this reason. This video was incredibly insightful- better than any other information I've found. It helped me to make my decision about my first matcha tea purchase! Thank you!!! Update- made my first matcha latte today with Ippodo's Horai tea and it was fantastic. Not overly grassy or umami- very mild. Highly recommend this for anyone new to matcha like myself.
Always love and appreciate your matcha videos! I view the "not the worst, not the best" category as something that you would't mind drinking if you ordered a matcha latte at a cafe made with those brands, and there weren't other options. But wouldn't go out of your way to order the matcha from the brand otherwise : )
Would love a re-review of jade leaf with their tins/bags! because the kind you get directly from them seems to be totally different than the single serving grocery store kind
I was so sad she put it in "don't recommend". I've been drinking it for a while now and just bought another bag from their website. I like the fact that it's organic. I guess she does say it's just her opinion.
I’ve tried both rockys and breakaway matcha based on your recommendation! I don’t think anything compares to breakaway. Never have I drank such smooth silky matcha. Think it’s worth the premium 🙏🏻breakaway matcha deserves to be in its own tier
Made the mistake of buying the Costco matcha once and NEVER AGAIN. I totally agree that it should be "avoided at all costs". Meanwhile, LOVED Ippodo Tea (which I think I tried per your recommnedation from another video) and my tastebuds can't go back after tasting something that's just GOOD w/o any frills. I'm back again to try another brand from the list! :D
I always enjoy your matcha content, please keep it up and i genuinely appreciate you! I actually went to Matchaful Cafe in Soho the other week and was so disappointed with their matcha latte. The matcha latte with oat milk was extremely plain I could barely taste the matcha flavor at all :(
Appreciate your reviews, thanks! I bought the Ippodo Horai and love it. What do you/matcha fans recommend (budget-friendly) for iced lattes using coconut milk? I find that the Horai is overpowered by the coconut milk flavor so I only have it hot or iced with water. Thanks.
Could you recommend an organic matcha brand that also guarantees to be free from radiation? I’m looking for options that are well-regarded for their quality and safety, but I haven’t come across any rankings or reviews that specifically address these concerns.
I love matchaeologist they’re pesticide free, radiation tested and heavy metal tested, and they’ve been endorsed by many matcha experts. I recommend the ceremonial matcha that are regarded as tasting “floral” on their website. But due to high demand, they may have sold out.
I'd respectfully argue that Kettl brand is "Almost too good" because the price/gram is really up there. In contrast, although Breakaway's Hyperpremium blends are indeed extra-pricey, they often have 20% off specials, plus you can get discount if you buy larger quantities, eg 100g vs 30g. From Kettl, you don't get that option at all (they only sell 20g). I'd also argue that Breakaway's more affordable Cold brew blends and even their Culinary Reserve blend can compete with other "Ceremonial" grades you've tried. Imho, Breakaway is worth looking at more closely. They have a large array of very high quality matcha all the way to their lower tier ones that even I can drink with just plain hot/ice cold water with minimal bitterness. Plus, their customer service and packaging is impeccable. Maybe I'm biased, but yeah, I love Breakaway, I don't want others to dismiss it because of their Hyperpremium price. Try their Cold Brew blend or their Culinary Reserve, I love both hot or ice cold (I drink it plain, never latte or sweetener added) and occasionally will splurge on the Hyperpremium if I catch a good sale.
@@proudbacteria1373 Most culinary grade matcha will be just that--culinary, because most likely it's unpalatable to drink it plain, especially the vast majority of those you see in the US stores. You could drink some culinary matcha as a latte (doctored up with a sweetener and/or milk of your choice). However, drinking this way requires using more matcha powder to compete with whatever flavorings you put in your drink. Also to note, the temperature of the water can also affect the taste of your matcha. Drinking matcha ice cold can mitigate the bitterness, which is why I like to drink Breakaway's Culinary Reserve on hot, summery days, but it's also nice served hot if you don't want to spend a ton of money. Just never use boiling hot water to make it, I typically use about 170F when making it hot.
Starbucks matcha is crap. They overload it with sugar and it doesnt even taste like high quality matcha. You can buy cheap matcha which had 1000 times the quality
Thank you so much for making these matcha videos! They are so fun and helpful. It would be cool to see you try Koto Tea. I’ve had both their Imperial and Ceremonial Grade matcha and enjoyed both. 💕🍵💕
Almost had a heart attack when I saw you commenting on encha because I thought you were talking about my tea ceremony teacher's brand but that one's called en-cha. She sells matcha and that one is SO good. I mainly drank it pure because it's almost too good for latte but I think it would be great in any mixed drink ☺️
I am looking forward trying some new good Matcha. But as Matcha is something special for me I definitly will go for the highest. I truly what to enjoy it as tea with my ritauals etc. And some of these I already had in mind. Thanks for making the other Matcha videos so that I have already a "taste" of how they will taste.

Loved this so much! I just discovered your channel and love it! I totally agree with jade leaf. Might be the only option for some people because it's so easy to find but I definitely wouldn't recommend. I actually like junbi - so I need to try some of these brands that are higher on the list lol. My go to ones are junbi and matcha bar so this was definitely really interesting
Informative video! Have you tried Tezumi? I mostly drink their matcha and think it’s great quality for the price. Would love to see your thoughts on them
There’s a “wonder matcha” by Pow with functional mushrooms that I literally can’t find any reviews of. From their website they seem like a possibly high quality and good sourcing but it would be so nice to hear somebody’s honest opinion.
There's one online that I would like to hear your opinion about. Its Wonder Matcha from POW. The founder creates it mixing matcha with adaptogens and anti-inflammatory ingredients 🙏
I don't really do mixed matcha powders bc they are usually made with lower quality matcha and it's not just about the matcha so unfair to compare to others
That's what I was curious about because I've been seeing a lot of these brands such as "RYZE", "TRUVANI", and "WonderMatcha" claim they use "high-quality Matcha with their blends for the added benefits but I questioned if it was worth keeping the subscription or go with one of those ones you've recommended in your videos. @@Veggiekins
I would love if you reviewed the Habit matcha! Such a down to earth couple owns it that I would love to support but I’m new to matcha so I’m not sure of the quality.
Hello! Thanks for these videos! I’ve recently gotten into matcha and I’ve learned a lot, specially from your videos! I found out there’s a local matcha store where I live and they sell Marukyu Koyamaen matcha powder from Uji, Kyoto Japan. I haven’t seen anyone review it, but based on my knowledge it is very high grade matcha, I recommend! I’d really love it if you review it, I’d like your thoughts on it!
It's definitely very popular and easily accessible which is a plus but not one that I love, that being said if you enjoy it, taste is always subjective!
I've tried Jade Leaf and Junbi (in cafe only), and Jade Leaf made me so sad bc it's not good at all :( it's definitely not the worst and avoid at all cost, but it's just not enjoyable imo and I'm just trying to get through the bag now, so I'm glad it wasn't one I bought for myself. from what I recall of Junbi (they're not local to me, I've only had them when traveling), I remember it being just okay but definitely not as bitter and earthy (but in a... dirt flavor way) as Jade Leaf. I would bump Junbi up to not the worst, not the best from that + how you talked about it in the video, despite putting it in don't recommend! I think we may have similar tastes since I'm sensitive to bitterness, so I'm excited to try some higher ranked brands like Ito En as a budget staple and maybe Ippodo and up when I get through my tea cabinet and can have a bigger matcha budget haha. love all these matcha reviews, you're doing god's work!!
I haven't as I believe it contains collagen right? I don't consume collagen as I'm vegan, but also, I don't really mess with matcha supplement/mixed products. You can almost always assume it's a mid-quality matcha if it's mixed with something. Would be far to expensive to justify using quality matcha to mix it with something, if that makes sense! So I'd look at it like a supplement, not an actual matcha.
I was drinking Encha for a long time until I tried Ippodo Sayaka. And I was like, well Ippodo is pretty good, but not that much different. Then I tried going back to Encha. Ummm, no way. Then I tried Ummon and now I play the lottery hoping to win. 🤣 I'm on a 6g a day habit so it gets pretty pricey. I settled on Sayaka for my everyday and Ummon for a once daily treat.
I’m shocked at how bad cymbiotika matcha is! Oh well, at least we know the best ones to go with! I’m personally a pique fan but I’ve been wanting to try ippodo and nekohama. Also Maui matcha is on my radar
