I wish they consulted the families before they made the Netflix series. This brings back the worst time in their lives for them (including the pain) as if it happened all over again. And for what? Entertainment? Views? Money? If you want the Jeffrey Dahmer story, there's already multiple movies, google, and RUclips. I feel for the families of the victims. 😔 Anyone who has been a victim of a crime or who has lost a loved one to it understands some of what the families are feeling.
Even if Ryan Murphy would've consulted them, the show would still have gotten made for entertainment, money, and views. So what are you saying?

I blame on cops!!! Dirty cops!!! This could prevent and saved so many lives and probably Jeffery can get mental health help from professional.
While I respect the families wishes, this does not glorify the serial killer, and therefor comes across to me as a legitimate portray of what occurred. We (people who didn’t grow up during this time) deserve to know the story of the victims, and deserve to know about the killer so we can attempt to analyze WHY people are the way they are.
So I respect the feelings of the family, but it is not their discretion to decide whether the public should be told the story.
My family and I was involved in the Las Vegas Massacre, I don’t go telling people not to make documentaries about it or watch them. I choose not to watch them, but I understand the educational impact that those videos/documentaries have.

@@notoriouscollector127 As someone who has also lost someone in a mass shooting, I couldn't agree more! I feel for the families but no one is telling them to watch the show. Nothing about this show was glorification, just an accurate depiction of what happened and now, a whole new generation is able to learn about the victims. Honor them, and keep them remembered. It can be a positive thing but they're choosing to be negative about it which is completely their choice but as you said it's not their decision whether the public should be told the story or not.

Tony was one of the victims that had really made me feel some type of way towards for him🥺 sending love to his family and the rest of the victims family’s.

It broke my heart. He just wanted to be a successful model living in New York, chasing his dreams, live happy, and wanted true love and unfortunately met a psychopath who just took advantage of him and took all that potential and life away☹️

This is more important than the victims families. This is important for the society. We can't close our eyes and pretend that it didn't happend. It did, this is reality. We have to face it, not hide from it.

@@gskate117 Yepp. Sorry but I think some people are beyond fixing or rehabilitation. There's certainly some that need to be put down like a rabid animal for the safety of the general public. And he's one of them. Plenty of people have trauma and mental health issues. Almost none of them do what he did. There's zero excuse for that. He was pure evil thats all.

Just imagine a haunting moment of your life from 15+ years ago suddenly resurfaces on the big screen for all to see. Old woulds open like new and it doesn’t help anyone.
The only help I can see is the cops who let Dahmer get away with the killings recently retired. I hope this highlights their faults and they lose their benefits

31 years ago but his story has been redone like 6 times alot of people didn tknow about this including myself but at the end of teh day he did what he did and he got what he wanted brutality just glad someone had enough power to not let this monster take them out
I watched DAHMER. I definitely paused that last scene when it showed the pictures of the real victims and just reflected on it for a few moments. I’m not really religious but it’s one of those moments when I just think “if your soul can hear this, I empathize with you and wish you peace “
Its a shame something so horrible also is interesting in some freaky way too so many people, it’s just a real life horror movie.

Same. The series was interesting, but that last scene also made me remember this was real life and real victims. I took a moment to remember them.

That episode with Tony hit me like a truck. Didn’t even know about Tony, but the scene with him celebrating getting the job ripped my heart out . I feel for all the victims and their families but man oh man I shed a few tears.

You can't do a series like this without affecting the people involved. For them they lost relatives and friends. For the series everything is turned into a drama with characters. The True Crime genre has its limits.
people keep saying this is good because it teaches us about dangers of the world. theres many ways to go about doing that though. jeff has already had many films and documentaries made about him. at what point will people stop glamorizing him? he did a horrible thing and it keeps being showcased. people can learn about these things through other ways. i feel so sorry for the families that have to relive this once again
Unfortunately, everything depicted in this Netflix series is on public record through interviews, court transcripts and news reports so the victims families have no legal recourse. The Son of Sam Law was enacted when infamous serial killer David Berkowitz (Son of Sam) stated he was being a offered a large sum of money in order to tell his story in 1977. This law states that any money acquired from books, movies, memoirs etc...would be put into an account and evenly distributed to victim's families and not to the criminal it is based on. This law is non applicable here as Jeffrey is long gone. His father Lionel Dahmer wrote a book years ago and was forced to give them a portion of the profits.
They’re not trying to take legal action as stated multiple times….they just don’t want to relive that trauma again and Netflix lied and said they reached out to the families which they did not
Exactly! These ladies took every penny Dahmer made in jail, allegedly...even the money he got from "fans"...all they want is money from Netflix.
Actually there were a ton of innacuracies. They took some of what he said in interviews and dramatacized it. Drinking a bag of blood? Didn't happen, Dahmer said he tried it and didn't like it. The runner who might have been his first victim? Didn't even show up that day. There was so much interpretation, subtraction of details and embellishment. Idk about legal action but this show was not accurate even to public record.

The very reason I mentioned the enactment of the Son of Sam law was to let people know that the families of victims of these kinds of atrocities have found some semblance of justice from the very perpetrators of the crimes their loved ones were subjected to but "unfortunately" this was not applicable here. I find that people who attack and judge complete strangers over the internet, most likely have serious personal issues themselves. If this is the case for you, please seek some help immediately.
it is painful to relive this but without this the whole generation wont be able to honor the names of these victims. I feel like the series was able to touch that and now, we remember these men/boys that were killed. they will never be forgotten
the newer generations could also get this same info from the multiple movies and documentaries already out there, google, anywhere. Especially since true crime is popular right now. No need to re-victimize the families. When you lose a loved one to murder, especially in this gruesome of a way, you don't exactly want to keep reliving it.

Little does he know the weight of all that he listed made it That much harder for him to make the correct choice. It created his compulsion to act the way he wanted like a child would. His prefrontal cortex was most likely hijacked by the procedures his father made him go through, the grooming of dissecting road kill and of course pornography addiction can be very dangerous because it literally hijacks your brain into acting compulsively while also lowering dopamine levels which leads to sometimes severe depression and lacking social norms. This also makes decision making hard. He is to blame because he did it and didn’t stop but just factor it all in !
He was a manipulator. He said all those things so his sanity plea would hold up. He wanted to go to prison to be killed. I highly doubt he meant any of it.
I feel for all the victims but Konerak and Tony made me feel sympathy in a whole nother way. It was so heartbreaking. They all deserved to live.
I knew more about Jeffery Dahmer than the victims until this came out. I woukd hate for this horrible moment to be relived if this was my family member. Families don't need those wounds reopened, these are people who were loved by their families and unfortunately they have been turned into a punchline for many online making jokes at the families expense. I really hope that there is no more remakes of this so that these families can heal and not think of how their loved one died but honor their memory instead.

They wanted people to remember the victims. I had no idea who they we until this, I feel they did a great job people who had never heard of them now know.

It wasn't exactly fake. They'd been dating casually for about a year or two before the murders. Also Jeffrey didn't intend to kill him
The lady screaming at the end in the trail broke my heart, Just felt so bad for her.
As someone who lost a little brother, it doesnt matter what people would do. I always relieve the final moment with him from time to time. I still cry sometimes even though nobody mention him. The sadness comes from within. So for me, the series is not really a big deal. Even if the series didn’t happened, deep down, i believe they remember

Yes but imagine someone making a tv series about that event, your now going to relive it again but it’s no longer your choice, it’s going to be for a while too, but again it’s not your choice and you didn’t know it was going to happen, that’s a very different thing than what your talking about
For me it comes down to not feeling they have a voice, again and again. They didn't have a voice when their kids died, on a wider level the police's failure to investigate was indicative of their lack of voice as a community being of lower social status, and now they have no voice against Netflix.

I'm glad they made this series. Yes it reopens wounds. But it tells the victims stories and helps people see the signs.

The fact that they didn’t consult the families makes me wonder where are they getting all this in depth personal storylines they made for some of his victims? I think it was a well done docuseries or whatever but how are you making it without talking to the families? I’ve never understood that… especially with Tony’s story it really broke my heart. And to retell it without even talking to the family I’ll never understand it
Then no more shows or movies about 9/11. That's painful for the families. While we're at it, get rid of all movies about WW1 and WW2. Painful for the families. Get rid of all the Ted Bundy shows, the Manson shows, the Zodiac killer movies and so on and so forth. Let's just never do entertainment about real life events ever.

I agree, it's story telling. The reason we know about it now is because it is spoken about and they are names are spoken, not buried in history no matter how horrific. He was murderer looking like an ordinary guy, this can happen to anyone at any time.
So the series basically dramatized the deaf guys death.
I didn't even know he was deaf without this series. So many things were not explained in news articles.

The pain caused to the family is just terrible, was heartbreaking to watch the families suffering about what happened. I also see where they came across to not continue with racism in today's world because it is still happening. Wish they consulted the family first and explained the reason for a recreation of something so terrifying.
If Jeffrey Dahmer doesnt meet the requirements for insanity, then id hate like hell to run into the guy that does.

Rita broke my heart, her raw grief is so sad. We need to know about the victims, make them the people we love and care for, their story is as important as the pyschopath that took their lives and this series has come close (not close enough) but closer than Ted Bundy's victims. Show these people as the human beings they were not just the killer. With the families consent and any money made from these films/series should be given to help the families, look into research as to why these phsycopaths are why they are and educating all people how to keep them selves save.
The show was so disturbing for me. It was hard to watch. I can't even imagine how it is like for the victim's family to hear about the show:(

Tony’s story in the show wasn’t 100% accurate. They tried to make it seem like Jeffrey and Tony had a short-lived romantic relationship going on before he was murdered which isn’t true. Jeffrey killed Tony the same exact night they met

I‘m really embarrassed to have assumed that they talked to relatives of the victims beforehand. I thought this is an obvious procedure when it comes to a topic like that. I didn’t even watch the documentary but this is simply cruel. Very sorry for the families that have to „re-live“ through those horrible times.

I’m sure it’s difficult for the families, but I don’t see how this is different than a documentary other than the skewed facts. The courtroom scenes are actual scenes they would show in a documentary. It’s public record.

Did any of Bundys victims make money off of the Netflix money about him? Or the Gacy victims families in the movie about him? Honestly the series was well made I have always known who Jeffrey dahmer was but now I understand the pain he put his victims and families though and I got to know the victims and their names before whenever I saw a documentary or read an article they were just 17 young men and boys but now it shines a light on them

I didn't watch it. If you kill 17 people, you can Google their names and many people know when a loved one dies, it hurts, but to be killed? Yes, they are going to be very hurt and angry. That hurt will be their the rest of their lives! A better ideal? Raise money for the victim families and go see about them without any cameras rolling! That would help more then making this trashy movie!

I can only imagine, I can’t believe they actually watched. Being from the city where this took place and having a connection to one of his victims family, I was only able to stomach the first episode and even that was hard 💔. My heart and prayers go out to all families involved.

While I feel for the families, and I can't imagine the trauma and PTSD that even hearing Dahmers name brings, the netflix show really reminds the new generation who weren't there to experience this in real time, the atrocities of what actually happened. It sheds a light on the poor victims who unfortunately with other documentaries/shows, are forgotten in the embellishment of what Dahmer did. I only knew who Dahmer was and never had heard anything about the victims or their families, and with the show and the new docuseries, I have learned so much about this young men who had so much to live for. While at the end of the day it isn't our decision to say what is right/wrong and I cannot imagine any of the families wanting to watch these series, for the general public it was a way to memorialize the victims and continue shedding light on systemic issue that are still present within our police force + justice systems.

To say just "don't watch it" is sort of a really horrible thing to say. Sorry. Not sorry that some of these parents are actually verbalizing what they feel. This happened in 1991. Come on. Not that long ago. There are still people grieving and mourning. The series I got literally like one episode in not even a full one and was mortified and horrified at how accurate and how word-for-word things copy what was actually said. I'm certain I can say they probably cover this in this clip. I'm not going to even watch it. But I'm going to say. Weird. It's WEIRD. For anyone saying "hey don't be disturbed this actually happened to human beings, not even twenty-five years ago. But let's make a movie about it and add every gory detail. It's pretty disgusting. Also like I feel extremely similar about any reacting to like horrific crimes. I much rather watch a documentary and get the facts from like the police of people investigating at this time. If you want to make it a historical documentary that's certainly lessons learned but glorifying it in a tv series is. Yeah. It's disturbing when you work with people and they say "I just want to see how all the murders are done" and your like... I was like riding my bike and alive and could have been a victim that time. Anyone could be. At any time. I'm certain people would think and feel differently if they had a family member murdered, butchered and had pictures taken of their last moments. Yeah. Just don't watch it though right. It's actually really fucked up and weird to me. To enjoy watching shows of humans who actually had horrible suffering before they died. Weird. I take no enjoyment out and I hate it seems to be a sick thrill for others now

He was just a narcissistic sociopath who felt narcissistic guilt for ruining his own image. Which wasn't much, to begin with. He completely lacked the ability to feel empathy so him just giving up and saying he was completely responsible was his way of just oopsie daisy taking accountability and null and voiding taking true accountability or feeling guilt. The storie its out there, and it was before the serie. It doesn't belongs to anyone, or better saying, it belongs to everyone. Saying "you can't write about this because is traumatic for the people involved" is like saying "you can write about world War II because is traumatic for the people involved"
I didn't know the names of the victims, neither their stories and their fight, until I saw the serie. I didn't know how much they messed up (police, etc) until I saw the serie. So, if the main objective was that...BRAVO!
This series enlightened me so much. I've always heard of the name Jeffrey Dahmer but never really knew about him and what he had done. So sad 😞
I feel horrible for the victims families. What makes me even more sick is that this show became #1 for such wrong reasons. He was a sick, evil man. And it makes me so sick people are watching this for the actors looks. My heart goes out to the families of the victims. Stay safe yall.

I watched the series realized that I needed to approach it with a Great deal of respect. Dahmer’s Victims were People who lived and Loved and were Loved by their friends and Families.
I recently watched a BBC documentary on Jeffrey Dahmer from 1994. The video is on RUclips, it's very insightful. Theresa Smith, the sister of Eddie Smith, participated in the documentary. She befriended Dahmer's parents and met with him in prison. He apologized to her and she got to have some sort of closure by asking him questions about her brother's murder. They should've included that in the series.

The point is the story has already been told many times already and for them to essentially dramatize a very personal and traumatic experience for the world to see word for word is a pretty traumatic thing to have to go through. They weren't even contacted and asked by Netflix for permission to do something like this. Very money driven and not even handled with care or respect for the victims or their families.

And actually yes, survivors of 9/11 generally are contacted when a new project is made. Or at least every documentary I have seen of 9/11, contains interviews from survivors and first responders that were there that day. The movie World Trade Center adapted 9/11 and actually if you can believe it or not it does contain survivors from that day in the movie as extras.
When something like this is made, it is with good faith that you ask everyone involved if they give their permission for a said project, which is exactly what Netflix didn't do and why you don't need Netflix to tell the story for you. The fact that it was done just for the sake of money just makes it distasteful and disrespectful.
The show isn't even fully accurate in regards to Tracy Edwards, and Glenda Clevland's involvement with Jeff.

Thats not true. I feel bad for them but this is news on public record. Besides I watched a made for TV movie about this years ago same exact story but it was only 2 hours so as much detail wasn't included. All of this has been covered a billion times in various documentaries and interviews. The creators of this show don't have to ask anything. Maybe it would have been nice to do so just informing them.

It was well done. They didn't have to show murder and all his killings. If you knew Teds story then you know. It was basically a time line of when the crimes were committed.

I feel bad for the families but these are all on public records. It's unfortunate but it's hard to draw a line to calll on what should or not should be made. As a sexual assault survivor I avoid any scenes that recall memories, I just don't watch it.

The victim's families should just not watch the show? I feel for them, but all of this is on public record and not much different than any other video / documentary about Jeffery Dahmer you can find anywhere. There's new ones being released very often, even before this show. This show does not glorify the killer at all. The only reason it's a big deal now is because of how much recognition the show received. It can be a positive light on the whole subject because now, no matter how detailed and gruesome this show may be, a whole new generation knows the names of these victims and is able to honor their name and keep them remembered.

This was the saddest part of the series....
The Netflix series did nothing to tell the stories of the victims of Jeffery Dahmer. What I think it did do, even if it wasnt intentional, was make Dahmer someone to sympathize with ( the scenes of him and his father and the road kill. The scenes of his mother and fathers toxic and abusive relationship). Its like they wanted us to go " well its not entirely his fault because his parents.... His mother was really.... His childhood....."
Looking at the result of this series, the feedback from the victims family, the memes, the thirsting that people are doing for Dahmer(Peter Evans) its safe to say that they did more bad than good. I agree with most of the comments saying that Netflix should have consulted the families before making the show, i believe this show should not have been made at all.

I can think of six different Dahmer centered movies/series/documentaries right now and while I havent watched all of them, based on media response I can say that while some people are devasted and rightfully angry at the things that Dahmer did, a number of people watch them and end up idolizing Dahmer, making tshirts, mugs, earrings, podcasts and "true crime while doing my makeup" videos.
This is because none of these shows fully focus on the victims. Theres more focus in the spectacle that is Dahmer. His story has been told from so many angles and it hardly ever does what the creators say their trying to do it just creates more fans of serial killers and makes people desensitizes by gruesome murders.
