- Since I noticed that this capture of the logo had disappeared from the site, I decided to reupload it for your viewing pleasure. Unlike the other capture, which has a jerky camcorder recording of the logo with the original sound overdubbed with the 1972/78 logo music, this has the real sound of this station ID

The reason why WGBH-TV put the 2 at the end of this ident is because that was the channel number assigned to the station.
The Original is maybe at 1 or 3
What is it at
It was always on channel 2 (now on channel 2.1).
Jim Birdsall is the voiceover.
The most traumatizing part about this is you're so used to the 2D logo that this just flashes out of nowhere with a quieter moog than usual.
Because I’m obsessed with this logo, I can’t make up my mind on which variant is my favorite!
This used to come on during breaks in 2011 or ‘12. And I used to be SO FREAKING SCARED, whenever I saw this, I’d just run from the living room, (cause that’s where we would normally watch it) and start crying.
Because of the buzzing sound and the “2” part?

WGBH-TV in Boston in on Channel 2.
Even though most people only see the WGBH across the country, WGBH was an actual TV station that itself produced hundreds of TV broadcast programs for other PBS stations.
I think most people know than it's a real TV station.

As from today, Tuesday the 1st of September 2020, WGBH eliminated the W from it's name, and now it's simply "GBH"
So that's what happen? It's naked without the W

@@SatsukiVM WGBH is their call sign. All radio and TV stations have to have one. It's their on air identity that's changed to simply GBH. Looking GBH up, I found it means Great Blue Hill.*

It doesn't scare me. To the contrary, I love the sound and picture the logo makes ever since I was a toddler. They now have a similar buzzing sound at the end at the present logo, but there's no 2, the logo just shuts off and lights up again.
