You and Chelsea have been some of the greatest ambassadors to GA, especially in the age of social media! I’m glad you still resolve to produce high-quality content, despite how hectic things seem to have been for you two!
@@Highmaintenance_chels that would be an absolute pleasure! I very much hope so! That might be hard this year, being in the Army Aviation training pipeline. One day!
That was a good examiner - he's teaching while also assessing your performance through his plan for the examination. Congratulations! Multi-engine flying is my favorite.
Josh, you are clearly a fantastic pilot, and make some of the best aviation content there is. Congratulations on achieving your multi engine addition addition!
I just took my PVT checkride on Thursday 6/1. I was so nervous since it was first check ride. There were several times I thought he may have failed me for maneuvers, but never did. I was probably just overthinking. What a feeling, it feels so unreal. In your case, I can only imagine the feeling you have. Even though it's not your first check ride, I can now officially relate to how you must feel after accomplishing that feat.
I remember passing my private checkride as well with that surreal feeling. When I was walking back to my car a bird made eye contact with me like he was saying welcome to the skies dude! Haha...
you don't owe an apology to anyone. I think we can all agree that your someone who PROVIDES to our aviation community. Whether that be through entertainment, cinematography, advise or mentorship, you will always be a "net positive" to us. So what if it takes you more time to come out with videos, it only makes us more excited when they come out, and that says a lot about your community, and yourself as a inspiration to us all. Keep the blue side up and keep on going:)
I had a real engine failure on my multi engine checkride. The funny thing about it was that the examiner thought and asked me why I was reducing the throttle and at the same time I asked him if he was giving me a single engine simulation. We tried to find out what was happening, but we couldn't. Then we feathered the prop, shut the engine down, and landed safely after 5 minutes or so. We were on a Beech Baron 55, so the airplane kept the leveled flight when we feathered the prop. It's not a good thing to experience, however if we stay calm and remeber our training, everything will end up okay. Congratulations for your checkride, and for your time in this channel. I can say that I learn a lot with you about aviation. Don't be so hard on yourself, the quality of your videos are awesome, and it is better than quantity. I appreciate your efforts and time given to this channel, thus for us as well.
This was absolutely riveting from start to finish! Who knew that a verbal recollection of a check ride would be interesting, but you made it very compelling. And you passed! So you are a great filmmaker, pilot and now storyteller. Thanks for what you do.
As a student pilot with minimal flight hours, but an overwhelming amount of simulator time, it was wonderful to get a great break down of a multi engine commercial checkride as it is something I plan on doing. I can not thank you guys enough for making this educational content for people like me who need a role model and a guide to answer questions that we may not feel comfortable asking out instructors. Thanks again for this channel, and I can’t wait for your next vid. I’m looking forward to it.
Love what you both do on this channel and don’t want to lose you guys what you for us ,, thank you both and understand completely with your busy time schedule ✈️😎🙏🫂🫂
Josh, Great video. I did my multi about 2 yrs ago, that was what I did with covid time effecting work. I really enjoyed it, did mine in a Seminole, and was very fortunate with my instructor to spend some extra time learning multi engine flying. I told him I want to be a good multi pilot, not just good with the Seminole. That thing does start to sink in a hurry lol. My DPE kept the items coming one after another also. Worked out very well and we have a C310 now. The videos are always awesome, you do a great job and we are always happy when you get them out. Keep up the good work. You and Chelsea are always fun for us you tube watchers to see whenever the videos come out. Thanks and take care.
I’ve been with you since before The Interview and I don’t intend to stop. RE: checkride stories: I am currently working on my Instrument Rating. On my private checkride about 2 years ago the DPE had an observer from the FISDO. He was 6’2” and 240 pounds. I had never had that much weight that far back in the W&B envelope. The first takeoff the DPE called for was a soft field TO, and a lot of that is feel, so I was bouncing the takeoff because I couldn’t feel when the plane was off the ground. Anyway, I got a little mercy and passed the checkride, but it was memorable.
I agree, your videos are worth the wait, sometimes you have to put yourself and Chelsea & family first! I look forward to the next one! All the best on your trip!
I so love the videos you have put out ever since the beginning. I am not a pilot, but I have spent time in single engine aircraft with friends over the years. After not being in the air for probably 20+ years, never done the commercial thing, I got to fly with my new neighbor to ferry a rescue dog. We flew NC to GA to TN and back to NC. I found it very telling that as my neighbor was filling me in with all that was going on I actually was ahead of him each and every step. That was due to having listened to and watching you for years. I continually watched and familiarized myself with the gauges, controls, and procedures of the pilot and plane, thinking to myself if something happens I'll need to know this. Having the knowledge from time in the air years back, and listening and watching you, I felt very much at ease throughout the journey. This made for a very enjoyable and even interactive experience. I hope this will not be my last flight in this beautiful Mooney. Thanks for all the time in the air even though I simply watched on a screen from the ground. It has been a great journey watching you grow and mature both as a pilot and man. I am sure the best is still ahead for you.
Seems like we're moving to Aviation 501. Not a pilot, but an old wanted-to-be who loves to fly with you guys. Great job and enjoying your work and dedication to this. Don't press yourself to a schedule. We'll be here....!
Don’t sweat the lack of videos. We are loyal fans and patient with you. Congratulations on passing your multi engine. Keep doing what you do. Blessings to you and Chelsea
Josh, great video! It was such a pleasure flying and getting to know you and Chelsea. Looking forward to finishing her training when we are all home again !
Congratulations! Your video brought back memories from my own MEI check ride. My first takeoff with the DPE got very exciting when the door popped open on my friend’s Baron right after takeoff. I flew the pattern, landed, and closed the door. The rest of the check ride was uneventful but I had the same experience as you on the single engine approach under the hood. Keep up the great work!
Josh, I have no problem with the inconsistency with the videos. I understand real life takes precedence over RUclips life. Gonna watch all your videos anytime I get the notification that a new one is up.
Congratulations Josh. I hope you and Chelsea can continue your great ambassadorship of GA to include twin engine aircraft in addition to your fantastic single engine work. Keep the videos coming.
I was imagining I were sitting on the pilot seat, doing exactly the same checkride with DPE while you described the whole checkride stuff. The most impressive one for me is that you decide to make a right turn in order to get maximum performance on turning with right engine inop, regardless of the pattern rule. Great decision making! Perfectly demonstrates what 91.3 says. I may not be able to make this decision if I were you at that time. Learned a lesson! Thank you! 6:16
Congrats on the MEL rating and thank you for going through it with us. You still have your own life to live and you and Chelsea have been busy! Look forward to the new videos whenever you get them out! Thanks for the life update!
Josh, don't worry about content and how fast it will be up. I'd love to see more quality, instead of quantity. The story should be less a monologue, that's how you already did. I love to see you flying and show us beautifull countrysides, places where people like me will probabally never fly around. Short story from one of my checkrides: I had to fly steep turns, stalls, recoveries of upsets - and I did it with full of my passion for flying planes. Unfortunatelly my CFI didn't go well and got more and more sick, so at the end the sick bag was full. The landing was as smooth as possible with flat turns in the pattern - at least I passed the check. On the sick bag was printed: thx for your criticism. 😀
Josh, absolutely loved your evaluation/rendition of your checkride! It made me recollect my Multi-engine/SEL Commercial/Instrument checkrides on 7/1/1986 in Phoenix AZ! My checkride(s) resembled yours and it brought back recollections and reflections as if it was yesterday! I had a big-ole s-grin while watching your video the same as when I accomplished this feat and finished that day long checkride 37 years ago!!! Congrats and THANK YOU for reminding me of one of my greatest days (of many)!
Great debrief! I completed my multi check in a Seneca II over 20 yrs ago. I was waiting for that single engine approach under the hood. I also had to shut down and restart under the hood while holding heading. For the single engine landing, the DPE declared the Captains Bars as the threshold.
Thank you for doing this debrief. This will be very beneficial to many pilots. I just passed my glider check ride a few weeks ago. Before taking the check ride my instructor made a deal with me. As long as I agreed to write a debrief of my experience afterwards, he would give me access to all of the debriefs every student before me had written. So he gave me a document almost 80 pages long of all the students who had previously passed their check rides. It really helped to focus my studying for the oral portion and set my expectations for what the DPE wanted to see on the check ride. After I passed I spent the next day and a half writing down every detail I could remember from the check ride for the next student.
Sorry to hear there have been negative comments. I really enjoy your videos. You narrate them well and provide a story line, not just a video in a plane. Congrats on your new MEL. I had my check ride maybe 16 years ago but I don’t remember it being near as involved as yours. Thank goodness but it would be great training. Thanks again.
Josh. we are all so appreciative of who you are as a person and your contributions to the aviation community. Please don't pay attention to any negative comments (for the record, I have not even seen any). Thank you for another great video; I/we look forward to the next, however long it takes!
Wow! First, congratulations! I love learning from your videos. Man, I reached mental saturation just listening to you! Now go have some fun flying. You earned it. Best of luck to Chelsea on her multi adventure. Thanks for all the videos.
1:16, I feel this. Give yourself room to take a break if needed. I recently moved across the country for my first pilot job, and it was super hard to keep up with any soical media. That being said, I love your channel and the way you film, edit, and also narrate. Thank you for your videos
You guys, Josh and Chelsea, are so inspiring. Keep it up. Much appreciation for all you do. And many safe, enjoyable flights. Congrats with new rating. Hope, Chels gets her soon too.
You have a professional and personal life, the channel is just a window for the rest of us to see into it. There's no reason to be self critical when you are busy doing the things that the rest of us watch for.
Hey Josh! No worries here man. I'm about 6hrs shy of my ppl and prepping for my check ride too. I get how time consuming it can be. Thanks for that great video and explanation of your check ride. My wife and I look forward to your vids, but we can wait. Congratulations on achieving your goal.
Sounds like a great checkride. I did my ppl ride in March of last year and flew into OSH in July. My DPE was great, I had no doubt he would have failed my for anything that I didn't have down in the ACS but his relaxed demeanor and clarity of communication made easy to understand what he was looking for. I came away with solid confidence in my knowledge as well.
Gotta say I disagree with the turns into the dead engine. If I remember correctly I was taught to turn into the good engine as the slipstream helps assist with lift on the slower wing or the “good” wing. In a Multi all turns should be ATTEMPTED into the good engine. It is the safest way to turn albeit very slowly.
Turning into the dead engine reduces control (VMC increases significantly) and also makes zero thrust harder to achieve. Did you ever try training with a yaw string on the windshield? If not, it is a valuable aid. I’m surprised the DPE Roger agreed with your incorrectly answer to fly a right traffic pattern with a simulated right engine failure. In a lower performance twin, you’d possibly not be able to maintain altitude, even with a larger radius turn. I’m also surprised the FAA Airplane Flying Handbook skims this aspect, earlier textbooks were a lot more detailed with vector diagrams and explanations for pitch and bank aspects during single engine operations.
Congrats on the cert Josh! We love the content. It’ll come when you have the time. Don’t worry about it. Live your life and enjoy it. When you choose to share it with us, we’ll be here for you.
“…all the negative feedback”? There are haters everywhere Josh. Just miserable people looking for company. Your videography and story-telling are still the best in aviation. Keep ‘em coming when you’re ready!
The perfect video at the perfect time. CFII here about to get their multi add-on as well. So many great pointers here and giving a window into what that ride could be like. Thanks so much! As so many others have said, we're not worried about frequency of your uploads. We're here for the quality of your content. You're doing a great thing for a great many people!
Keep on keeping on. Can’t worry about the few negative comments that try to keep you down. Focus on the positives that you are accomplishing like making GA safer. It’s not about the quantity of videos, it’s the quality that matters ultimately. I was trained by current/retired military. You are one of the few civilians I’ve seen actually take safety seriously. Sadly GA has a fairly bad reputation for wreckless behavior. Like I said just remember there are tons of folks who don’t get that kind of safety training, so keep going even as slow as it might feel at times.
Way to join the multi-commercial club. Your content is great. I have enjoyed watching you online starting when I used to live in Pflugerville. 21 years ago I got the dreaded pink slip on my check ride and of all things on the oral. Had a brain flatulence moment. Went back two days later and got it done. I learned way more from that failure, remembering that keeps me humble and on my toes every time I go fly. Keep up the great work!
Hi Josh. Loved this video! I did a PPL in New Zealand [many] many years ago, and this took me right back to that experience. Love the way you went through each manouvre with so much description - you make dealing with them sound so easy. Love your videos, especially seeing how you and Chelsea are enjoying your individual aviation aspects so much on trips, training and travel. Keep up the good work (when you can).
I passed my multi engine checkride in April in a Seminole. Funny you mention making damn sure you're feathering the correct engine. When we were first doing engine failures in the training, I feathered the wrong one a couple times. My MEI had me start saying "Verify left throttle, left prop, left mixture, etc." and I didn't have any more issues after that. Never a bad idea to verify which engine you're securing in my opinion, because like you said, you don't want to become a glider! Congrats on passing the checkride!
Josh, Great job on the video. Don't worry about the haters complaining about how much content you are putting out. Just get to it when you can. Seems like you have a pretty busy life going on right now so it is what it is. Congrats on the multi engine commercial. I think I am going to start on my commercial this year myself. Got the IFR last year so it seems like a progression in the right direction. Good luck on everything in the future.
(in Australia) While doing my CASA CPL-H I was heading towards a town, had mad a slight error in my Nav but the examminer said ok if you can do this next part on the fly ill let it slide. He gave me a brief on "doing a photo job" around this small town, so we where at 1000ft AGL doing left hand orbits, I Made several radio calls as there is a few smaller training airports about 15nm away. As we pulled out of the orbit and where heading towards one of the aerodromes I made an area frequency call again. And next thing I know a piper shoots below me about 50-100ft at most. Neither myself or the examminner had seen the aircraft and they had not made a single radio call. Although rattled we continued the check ride 3hrs from taking off we landed back at my home airport with a pass. (next time dont use small land marks as visual nav points I was advised) We checked flightradar and the examinner called the school who's aircraft went below us. Apparently the the student did not hear any calls, but yet had no explination to why they where flying so low (it was also an area surrounded by small hills) but admited they where in a hurry....... Also i had to wash my T shirt 3 times post check ride, it was sweat the whole way through.
Good to see you back Josh! No worries on our end. We can be patient and have no problem waiting for the great content you produce. Thanks for the update on your multi-engine rating. Congratulations on receiving it!!
Thank you for the detailed look back on your check ride. Congratulations.. I always look forward to the next video but never feel like you are being “lazy” and not posting. You guys are living your best life and busy as heck. With that I will take what I can get. You have brought the highest level content and you continue to help me with my proficiency. I am hoping to catch up with you two at some point at Osh this year and chat.
Josh! Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video! I'm gonna be taking my commercial, and then hopefully my multi add-on this Summer, and seeing you go through the entire checkride on a video is absolutely amazing. I know I'll be coming back to this as I get closer to the date. Also, you absolutely have a right to take time off from the channel to work on yourself and your non-"Aviation101" aviation goals! We will always support you and be here whenever you return. Safe flying to you and Chels.
I just really want to know who has a problem and what that problem could possibly be with what you post. You are methodical, calm, and probably the most easy going private pilot I've watched on RUclips. You easily break things down for those of us not intuitive enough to pick up on the aircraft technical speak but at the same time give the more knowledgeable crowd good info as well. Been watching since very the beginning and will continue to look forward to your content and like others have posted quality over quantity everytime. Post 1 or 2 great videos and not 5 ok videos IMO. Fly safe!
Dang, that multi-engine checkride was a workout! Great job! I took my multi checkride in the Navy in a Grumman S-2 Tracker. That airplane would give your legs a workout! Powered by Wright R-1820's, 1525 hp each side.
Congrats. My son-in law is just in the midst of getting his commercial. He recently got his single engine instrument. He is in the Horizon Pilot development program.
Congrats!I got my multi (with IFR privileges) a couple of years ago and I've been flying a Baron. It's a blast. I love having 2 engines when I fly over desert or water.
Watching your videos gave me the motivation to get my PPI. Now I've been flying for 3 years and love every video you release. I'm based out of Hicks in Dallas and am waiting for the moment I catch you in the wild. I'll for sure give a shout out when that happens. Thanks Josh!
Congratulations that’s great news! This was great to hear your debrief as I have my commercial check coming up in 30 days and will start my ME right after. Keep up the great work and I’m wishing you both great success in reaching all of your goals! Fly safe my friend
Thank you for sharing your experience! I'm working on my multi-engine rating in Canada, and it's interesting seeing the common exercises as well as the different ones. For example, in Canada we do do the Vmc demo, actual engine shutdown, and engine failure on takeoff in training, but not on the flight test
Mate, don't worry about it. We know you'll upload and when you do it'll be great! Many congratulations on your ME rating, that's amazing 🙂I also did a thing recently, I passed my PPL skills test 😀 Watching the channel was an extra motivation for me, so thank you for playing a part in it and I can't wait to have some 101 style adventures of my own now😁
Congratulations Josh! Job well done! Thank you for the super awesome in depth, blow by blow debrief. I can only imagine the hours this video took in post to get ready for release. Thank you for everything you do and your fantastic contributions to GA. #congrats #aviation #multi-engine #checkride
Congrats. I understand your issues. After I got my PP certificate I stated a RUclips channel and made 3 videos. I recorded many but the editing to produce something good is very time consuming. I own my own business and have a family so something had to go. I love making the videos and showing people what happens when you got GA but there is only do much time. I miss your videos they are so great and inspiring but truly understand. Hopefully everyone will remain patient and enjoy what you do when you can. Fly safe!
Great video, one tip I'd like to share to potentially help avoiding a repeat with what happened with the tower and delayed take off. During my last check ride. When we called up clearance. We let them know it was a check-ride so they could plan an accommodate us. It helped me because my home airport is under construction and not always allowing practice approaches but they work with you for Check rides, however once they know they normally great about helping out. So if you or others did that in the future I'm sure the tower will know you would needed a delay.
Hey Josh, you're one of only three pilots I subscribe to on RUclips because of your humility and professionalism. You're not afraid to speak the truth, highlight your own mistakes and learn from them. Don't worry about the frequency of your videos, I am subscribed for the quality. 😃
Josh, as a private pilot (grounded due to medical conditions - sigh) I totally love your videos. Your videos are pretty much how I get my flying fix. Cheers.
Congrats on the Commercial multi. I can see MEI in the not too distant future for you. I did my commercial multi in December of 2021, so the video brought back memories of mine. I went ahead and got my MEI the following December 2022. If you come by the Jacksonville, FL area, you're welcome to stop by and I'll buy dinner. Again, congratulations on the Commercial Multi
Great to see what you have been up to. Love all the information and entertainment you provide. No need to worry about how often you put videos up. The quality and inspiration you give is enough. Enjoy the twin licence!
Congratulations Josh 🎉, Multi-IFR is a big step up and a great thing to have. It indeed changes your perspective on flying in a positive way and makes you understand flying and ops on a whole new level. While it is more challenging, it is a lot more rewarding. Thank you for sharing the process and best of luck for the future.
Hi Josh, Excellent video. Don't be too hard on yourself. Editing and trying to make a sked for youtube or any other website can be demanding. Take your time. List your priorities, ie which ones come first and which ones can be moved to the rear. Above all keep your health and overall well being to the top. We as your followers will always be here. I for one know what trying to make a skedule is like. Remember priorites. Hope this helps. Harry
I have definitely missed your videos! Thanks for getting us up to date on what's going on in your life. Congrats on your new certification! Sounds like some life changes are in your future. Looking forward to what's ahead; and of course, all of your great videos!
Wow, thanks so much for the great video! I love multi-engine content and would love to see you produce more. I'm still studying for my SEL PPL, but it's heartening to see that even experienced aviators still go through some of the same struggles I am. Thank you so much for sharing your story.
Josh, don't be so hard on yourself, we love your vids. They are worth waiting for......Focus on quality Not quantity

Congratulations on the Multi Engine! I’m an MEI up at DTO and love flying the twins. The Seneca is a beast to fly but a good aircraft to learn in.

Congrats Josh! The result of a ton of hard work and effort. Love to see you succeeding and these debriefs will definitely help others. Clear skies!
Josh. we are all so appreciative of who you are as a person and your contributions to the aviation community.
I'm starting to really dig your channel...
You're the best on RUclips for GA newbies. Great content always. Thanks
Life happens, enjoy the ride as your PIC.
Perfect timing! I’m about to start my multi training soon.
(in Australia)
While doing my CASA CPL-H I was heading towards a town, had mad a slight error in my Nav but the examminer said ok if you can do this next part on the fly ill let it slide.
(next time dont use small land marks as visual nav points I was advised)
We checked flightradar and the examinner called the school who's aircraft went below us.
Josh, congratulations!!! Marty, looking good... miss you guys.
As just a student private this sounds EXTREMELY overwhelming!
Fly safe!
Congratulations! welcome to the multi-engine club.
Josh, appreciate all you do! I just did my multi engine commercial add on check ride 3/23. Congratulations on, knocking another one off the list.
Dang, that multi-engine checkride was a workout! Great job! I took my multi checkride in the Navy in a Grumman S-2 Tracker. That airplane would give your legs a workout! Powered by Wright R-1820's, 1525 hp each side.
Well done...the journey continues...
Congrats. My son-in law is just in the midst of getting his commercial. He recently got his single engine instrument. He is in the Horizon Pilot development program.
Congratulations, well worth it sir. I completed my multi in a Diamond 42 last year. It was the best thing I ever did, I learned a lot.
Congratulations man! Glad you have a new ticket to give us videos on
Congratulations Josh! I have been watching your channel since the beginning. Great to see your progress.
Many congratulations on your ME rating, that's amazing 🙂I also did a thing recently, I passed my PPL skills test 😀 Watching the channel was an extra motivation for me, so thank you for playing a part in it and I can't wait to have some 101 style adventures of my own now😁
Congrat's Josh on a great start to your summer!
Cheers.
Missed you all. Glad you are knocking off some things on your to-do list. Hope to see you back soon.
Keeping it coming…life will challenge you…every day!
That's great to hear I just started my flight school journey.
I love the way you stepped through the whole check ride. It was very cool to watch as I felt like I was reliving it with you!
Congratulations!!!! Thanks for updating us. Looking forward to your videos especially the Bahamas trip. Hoping to do that trip soon myself.
Ive flown with Miles too, i took him up in my C175 when he was visiting to alaska.
Congratulations Josh! 🎉
Love your videos. Unfortunately I cannot fly anymore because of money issues, but following your videos keeps my love of flying alive
Great video Josh, enjoyed getting to hear not only what you had to do during the check ride but also your thought process along the way.
Hi Josh,
Excellent video.
Great description of your check-ride. Reminds me of my multi check ride over 20 years ago in a Piper Apache. Great Job !!
Wow, thanks so much for the great video! I love multi-engine content and would love to see you produce more. I'm still studying for my SEL PPL, but it's heartening to see that even experienced aviators still go through some of the same struggles I am. Thank you so much for sharing your story.
Vmca demos are fun! Getting your CFI add-on will be super easy.
My latest was training in a PPC till weather shut us down last fall, still awaiting improvements so we can complete.
