This is such a joyful and uplifting song at a time when the world was in such chaos. I am French Canadian so I understand the lyrics, which are on the surface lovely and innocent and illustrate the spirit of the (European) French culture of that era. However, under the flowery lyrics and imagery is an underlying message about a French culture that dealt with its strife by focusing on love and life. Very admirable indeed.

This is honestly just the best song ever recorded. So rhythmic, melodious, infectious, bright and full of joy. I could listen to it a thousand times and never, ever grow tired of it. "Boum!" deserves its exclamation point. It's an explosion of effervescent musical glory, a lively, toe-tapping celebration of every heartbeat, every sunrise, every brilliant second of being alive in this world. It brightens the darkest moment of the darkest day you could imagine. Its one and only flaw: it ends.

    Boum
    Quand notre cœur fait Boum
    Tout avec lui dit Boum
    Et c'est l'amour qui s'éveille.
    Boum
    Il chante "love in bloom"
    Boum
    Le monde entier fait Boum
    Tout l'univers fait Boum
Parc'que mon cœur fait Boum Boum
    Boum
    Je n'entends que Boum Boum
    Ça fait toujours Boum Boum
    Boum Boum Boum...

I first came across "Boum" (Charles Trenet) when I was watching a WW2 documentary. The scene on the computer screen showed France mobilizing for war against Nazi Germany. The background music was, Boum, sung by Trenet. Of course at the time I didn't know that. I next heard Boum by Trenet on the 2001 romance comedy, "Festival In Cannes". It's an uplifting tune. I don't know if it could be sung in English and still be the same.

This song was very popular in 1940 between the invasion of Poland in 39, & the invasion of France in 1940. He entertained the French and British troops during the time of the "phony war" the pause before the battle for France. It was used in all the newsreels showing what was happening "over there". The Germans could be seen preparing only a mere 100 meters or so away. Nobody wanted to take a shot, all just hoping it would not happen again. Saga commercial brought me here too. Great tune!

This is one of those tunes which flit around almost in ones'subconscious; the musak of life (if you're of a certain age).
I was reminded of this at the funeral of an old family friend; a humanist. He was Scottish, Jewish, gay and a hairdresser. Lovely, chatting and funny. He was self-depricating, conspiratorial and generous.
I was in love with his daughter and his Swedish wife but wasn't ever going to get close: they were all it of my league but not dismissive or harsh (not that I ever showed my interest or intended to make them uncomfortable). Gosh this is a lot in sharing isn't it?
Anyway I'm guessing it's a time he shared with his wife. She was glamorous and statuesque; she decided to learn Italian so that she could read Dante's inferno in the original language.
    Thanks Ernest!

the clock says tic-tac, the birds near the lake pic-pic, gloo-gloo sing all the turkeys, and the pretty bell sings ding-dung-dong. But BOOM, when your heart beats "boom", everything with it booms, and this is love's awakening. Everything has changed since yesterday (= since i'm in love and my heart jumps in my chest, everything/one seems to echo with it and beats at the same tempo). :-)

Unless I am misremembering, I first heard this song as background in one of the classic TV WWII Documentaries, probably "The World at War". It was played as light, ironic, even sarcastic counterpoint emphasizing the inexorable evolution of the 'phony war' period between the declaration of war and the onset of the actual horror that the Second World War became. Am I correct, or anywhere close to it on this? Pretty sure George Formby was in this 'before the REAL war began sequence, singing " Sitting on a mine in the Maginot Line".

    Boum
    Le monde entier fait Boum
    Tout l'univers fait Boum
Parc'que mon cœur fait Boum Boum
    Boum
    Je n'entends que Boum Boum
Ça fait toujours Boum Boum Boum
    Boum Boum...

Original OST Sountrak of the A Good Year. 2007. Great movie. Perhaps the very young do not feel the same way. They will be passed on.

Only.a.few people in France still know what a great talent he was. La.Mer is still my favourite song
Nowadays the lyrics don,t fit anymore'. What a loss of mother nature and this nice man.

Big Trenet fan here, and this remains my favorite rendition of and my favorite Trenet song. Did anyone catch the animated Charles Trenet in the opening 1930s cartoon within the animated feature, The Triplets of Belleville?
