    Not expecting him to blow up his rookie year since extremely young prospects usually aren't efficient at a young age. But by 21-22 he'll be an All Star. I don't feel the same with any other guard prospect in this draft. I'd take him in the 2-4 range

    • @grapeape1965
      @grapeape1965 2 года назад +8

      He’s not even extremely young as a rookie, he will be 19 before the draft. Mobley was a few weeks younger than him for his rookie year age, Scottie Barnes was a couple months younger for his rookie year age, just examples of recent top performing rookie of the year level rookies younger than what will be Sharpe’s rookie year age (multiple others his age or equal during last years play too, good ones like Giddey
      , 5 months younger during rookie season, and kuminga if we believe his birth certificate lol). Jabari smith is only 2 weeks older than Sharpe for reference as well. AJ Griffin, (3 months younger) and jalen Duren (5.5 months younger) are current likely top ten picks younger than him that have high expectations/potential etc too. His age isn’t going to be any excuse or reason with the way the true best young prospects have looked as rookies in the NBA from the last 5 years of drafts

    • @GunninRebel55
      @GunninRebel55 2 года назад

      @@grapeape1965 5 months younger than Duren is still extremely young even for a rookie. I expect Shapre to come in and develop his NBA game rapidly as long as he gets minutes which how could he not? The game is changing and rookies are being entrusted to contribute sooner now. Look at NOP with Trey Murphy, Alvarado (24 yr old rook lol), & Herb Jones (4 yr guy), and even the younger rooks: Lamelo, Zion, Mobley, Barnes, Cade, Josh Christopher, Pritchard, Duarte, Giddey, Sengun, Rui, Primo etc etc. Not all young but the point stands. I’m expecting to see a lot of these incoming rookies contribute on playoff teams next yr. Guys like Ousmane Dieng & Chet will need time but the upside is tremendous. I’m completely sold on Dieng.

      He might have a little trouble getting his shot off against 3s in the league because 6'5 is undersized for a SF, but as a 2 he could avg 15+ his rookie season. Given he went to Portland I hope he'll apply himself on Defense, because he'll have a spot and get significant playing time if he can defend on the wing. Yeah. He's got star potential. I don't see how you would lose drafting him. He's an excellent baller and will only improve. The only flaw I see is that he exposes the ball too much with a high dribble and is vulnerable in the spin move, again exposing the ball. But, he will learn to bring that ball lower, like Kylie Irving and Booker. In fact, I would say he is similar to Irving, only taller and more athletic.
    I would put him number 1 through 3 for a pick.
    Here's my take if the odds hold up.
    Number 1 pick, Houston: Holmgren
    Number 2 pick, Orlando: Sharpe
    Number 3 pick, Detroit: Smith
    Number 4 pick: OKC: Banchero
    Number 5 pick: Indy: Ivey
    *Given that Fernando and Garuba, will probably be gone from Houston, Holmgren fits in perfectly with Woods/Sengun to complete the trifecta of talls. Green/Porter/Gordon, will lead the backcourt. If Wall returns that will make them a solid favorite to make the playoffs and keep them from coming back to the high lottery status and trashing their seasons year after year.
    * Orlando has nothing. They need Sharpe to put them back on the map. Someone like Ball (Charlotte) to dazzle and shine. Sharpe is is a perfect fit. Even if they lose, they have someone to fill the stadium to watch for tomahawk dunks.
    * Detroit doesn't need Banchero. They already have that guy in Cade Cunningham. They need a special player at a different position. Smith fills that role perfectly. Smith can easily play the 1/2 position giving opposing teams difficulty.
    * OKC. You know Sam Presti is going to get Banchero for that team. Ivey is not on their radar. Actually, Sharpe according to SI will be drafted by OKC if available. But since he is going to go higher, Presti will take the next best in Banchero.
    *Indy. They wanted Murray but Ivey fell into their lap and Indy needed some flash. They got it.
    After those 5 picks: Anything can happen, assuming the odds hold up and the ping pong balls fall accordingly. But after those top picks, anyone could be drafted anywhere in the top 10 - 12.

    Who says no?

    • @whatsnot19
      @whatsnot19 2 года назад

      No.
      Sharpe is more Anthony Bennett than BRoy. Roy was never this athletic, not even close. Nor was Roy as fluid. Roy was a really heady, super high IQ player but played below the rim ala CJ McCollum. I'm trying to think of a Blazer in the last 30-40 years that even remotely reminds me of Sharpe and the closest comp is (ironically) a bigger Ant. Other than that the only person approximating Sharpe is maybe Isiah Rider but even that isn't a great comparison to Sharpe. Ant is a closer comp in my mind.

      @@whatsnot19 sorry dude. I was a bit heated when you first said A. Bennett calling him a bust already lol. My bad dude. I love the pick and if you watch Blazer Uprise with Torey. He makes excellent points saying Sharpe will be a SF. His standing reach is longer then some starting SF's already and wingspan. He is taller, longer then Anthony Edwards already, not bulky yet.

    Someone explain why AJ Griffin is less valued than this guy? He weighs 20 lbs more. He shot 45% from three point in college while Sharpe didn't even play at all. Why do people value the unseen more than the seen? The untested more than the tested?

    • @09lowkey
      @09lowkey 2 года назад

      Scouts saw him at Kentucky practices. Some even say he was the best player in those practices. If he applies himself on Defense he'll get significant playing time with the Blazers, not too concerned about his ability to score. He can shoot and he looks like he can get his shot off. The way Dame and Simons can stretch the Defense he'll get his scoring opportunities.

      Same reason people gamble: the allure of a spectacular lottery ticket is always more tempting than a (perceived) lesser, known commodity.
      Personally, I don’t get all the hype. If I’m a GM, I want that dog. I want that player who wants to play at the highest level they have access to, no matter what. One not afraid to expose his weaknesses.
      He had a chance to play at Kentucky. He chose not to. I want that player always working and always testing himself. Kobe went one on one with nba players in real games during his pre-draft visits. He didn’t hide to protect his draft value.
      Whom are the most successful nba players? The ones that work the hardest. So im valuing a college players who has tested himself like aj griffin over the allure of an unknown lottery ticket.
      Clearly several GMs feel the same way.
      Don’t get me wrong, I get the financial reasons behind what he did….but if I’m a GM that tells me his higher priority is securing that bag, not winning basketball. (Im not judging him, id probably make the same choice….but i also probably wouldnt be a all star caliber player)
