Jack's responses are comical, they're not mood killing. The mood is always disdain when Barbara says a pun.
***** The completely dead, monotone response is just another form of funny reactions. He's being completely emotionless like that on purpose, to show the same kind of "oh come on" kind of feeling that Burnie has when he says "shut the fuck up".
It's not really something you should have an opinion on, people will react how they choose to react. As long as you understand that he's not actually trying to bring the mood down...nothing wrong with it.

So here's a pun. I was in the canteen of my college and one of my friends there had to leave for an exam and another one of my friends asked if he could put his plate away. I said "he doesn't need to do that now, he's got enough on his plate!" and it was super hilarious. I doubt anyone will read this but it was probably one of the best jokes I've ever come up with.

I know people talk about this all of the time, but the way Jordan portrays the emotions of the characters just adds subtle layers to each RTAA. Like Burnie at 0:39 or Gavin at 0:54
