I love how it switches to German when all hell breaks loose. For English speakers that don’t understand German it makes the war part feel even more chaotic.
As a member of a generation removed from war with Germany by almost 80 years, we still get a little nervous when someone starts yelling at us in German :D Personally, I think this version of the song kicks ass, German verse included.

Every time I would listen to this cover within earshot of my mom, she would always tell me that the ending of this version doesn't give her goosebumps like the original. The lyrics of this is a child poem comparing it to music from the 50's,60's, and early 70's.
You can tell it was a love letter to Nena when he sang the last verse in German. A real fan got to cover probably his favourite song and sang probably his favourite part in the OG langue. Most respectful cover ever
What's ironic is that this song has its German stanza changed to English with much different text in Gran Turismo 3.
It's crazy, because when we went to Germany a couple of years back, it definitely sounded like all the bands at the beer tents were covering Goldfinger's version. Love the original song, but this song is a certified banger. Rock on boys!

FH I can’t speak German, but I have a condition called synesthesia. Which basically means I experience sounds as colors. When he switches from English to German the colors I get from the song change

+Captain Porter I like this more than the original version because the lyrics match with the instruments. In the original version, the lyrics go on about war destroying the world with a bouncy, pop sound in the background, which do not match at all. In this version, you have those lyrics with a heavier (compared to the original) punk sound, which I feel really compliment the lyrics.

Alaina Johnson you know this song was originally done by Nena, a German band and was popularized and rewritten into English years before Goldfinger was even a thought let alone a band covering the song.

Alaina Johnson many of Goldfingers fans are German and I'm sure some English speaking fans speak German as well. Either way the German is meant to preserve the character the original song. Yes Nena did rewrite the song in English but in both Germany and English speaking countries the origional German is what caught the eye of the public. it's like asking why your cellphone has a picture of a land line when you make a call or why electric and luxury cars have engine noises played through speakers. It's a familiar medium for all and a call back to those who understand that.
This is what I'm after.... I'm in the middle of binge of my teen years music, Blink, Green Day, sum41, offspring, alkaline trio, afi, NOFX, bad religion, Jimmy Eat World.....these guys are the ones I've forgotten about. They are that missing band that have escaped my consciousness
