Geneva Celebrates World Press Freedom Day

  • On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day and the presentation of the Kofi Annan Courage in Cartooning Award 2024, the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation and the City of Geneva, in partnership with the Geneva Graduate Institute, invite you to a special event featuring Shirin Ebadi, winner of the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize, mentor to imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi, and Christiane Amanpour, CNN star journalist and member of the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation advisory board.
    Welcoming remarks by Marie-Laure Salles, Director, Geneva Graduate Institute
    Introductions by:

    Sami Kanaan, Administrative Councillor, Department of Culture and Digital Transition, City of Geneva

    The keynote speech by Shirin Ebadi was followed by a discussion on the place of women cartoonists in the world moderated by Christiane Amanpour with :

    Rachita Taneja, Indian cartoonist, Sanitary Panels
    Ann Telnaes, American editorial cartoonist, Washington Post
    The Freedom Cartoonists Foundation then handed out the 2024 Ko­fi Annan Courage in Cartooning Award.
    This event was bilingual in English and French. In partnership with Cartoonists Rights (USA), Cartooning for Peace (France), The Kofi Annan Foundation, The Geneva Press Club, Caran d’Ache. Media partners: Le Temps, RTS, True Heroes Films, Clin d’œil Films.
